Bear in mind there (currently) are no perfect GBA emulators. They are allowed on the leaderboard out of necessity, but console is preferred!
Usually the most recommended emulators are BizHawk, VBA-ReRecord, and VBA-Merge.
If you look at the timestamps on the leaderboards you will see that there are a lot of recent submissions. The game is somewhat inactive at a high level but in general the community very much still exists.
However, you are correct that m2k2 is dead (rest in peace).
It's been suggested many times now to have dummy pages on this site that just link to the external leaderboards in cases like super metroid and mega men. I'm not really sure what the value of having a duplicate board here is if most people won't submit to it.
The main reason series mods have power is that skull64 made the page and I added all the runs. Neither of us run the game so no, there is no longer a need. However, what is the advantage of removing series mods?
I'm down with what lordalu posted above, except I can't take friday off, so I won't be available before 7pm UK time that day.
Submissions have not opened yet for ESA16. The deadline that just passed is for a smaller online marathon that will be taking place before the main event
Game Name: Metroid: Zero Mission System: Game Boy Player Category: 100% race with Eagle and LordAlu Gameplay Estimate: 1:20 Ending/Bonus Estimate: 0:05 Sample run video: Description: Technically the most popular metroid game on speedrun.com, MZM is a run with no downtime, lots of shinesparks, and years of re-routing and optimisation under its belt. Almost completely unbroken, 100% does contain one new glitch compared to ESA14. You guys know what you're getting with this game, as it's been in the last two marathons - hopefully you're not sick of it by now. If it does get submitted to ESA16, I promise it'll be a new category at least!
I just noticed the category rules now say "Timing starts from Samus first moving". Just so you're aware, when I first set up this page and imported runs from m2k2 or wherever, I standardised them to file select timing, as there was a mixture of both. If people want to use SDA timing, that's fine, but just so you know, most of the runs on the board will need to have ~7s subtracted from them.
I am of course an outsider but my personal preference would be to use file select timing for consistency with other metroid games.
EDIT 3/7/17 Now that we are allowing emulator RTA (and the boards are already using RTA by default) it doesn't make much sense to have the cutoffs be in IGT. All the new cutoffs can be found in the individual category rules.
If you submit an IGT-only run which is "good enough" to hit a cutoff it will probably be rejected. But there's really no reason to submit IGT-only any more.

I have already discussed this with several ZM runners, but it's not written anywhere on this site, so here's a quick post about it:
Currently, any new runs with an IGT under 30 minutes (any%) or 56 minutes (100%) require a full video (NOT a screenshot of the ending) or they will be rejected. This rule is not applied retroactively to old runs.
These cutoffs are arbitrary and could change in the future, but they're what we're working with for now. I know recording sucks for a lot of people - particularly as we encourage you to play on console rather than emulator - but hopefully you can understand the need. Merry christmas!
I will readily admit that I have never done runs of other m, but is there any problem with the current moderation? Is there something you would add or change?
there was some rule about emotes not overwriting words in sentences right?
Will all fangames etc be tied to a parent game in the way romhacks currently are? I can't think of a good example off the top of my head, but it might be nice to be able to set up fangames that are not.
I'm guessing it's because:
Secondly, when you've followed games, instead of the 'Games' button in the navigation bar sending you straight to the page showing all games, it will show a list of all the games you are following (currently limited to showing max 15 to avoid it getting too long) as well as a button to still reach the page showing all games.
If you start rejecting a run but then cancel out of the dialogue box that appears you get this message:
"Your security token is invalid. This most likely means that someone tried to trick you into doing stuff you do not want."
Yes, any video that includes the whole run is fine. Preferably one where you can make out samus on the screen though.
I agree, it does suck. Personally I always try to encourage people to use console over emulator, but game boy players are getting more expensive all the time. The VC release is a good alternative for some people, but obviously only if you already own a wii u (and the controller options are inferior compared to GBP in my opinion).
