However, instead of taking this to public at the forum. You could have avoided this whole unnecessary drama by talking to one of mods OR DMing about it in SRC/Discord...etc.

Thank you for understanding. Locking this thread.

I was not aware because I didn't pay attention too much on the date submitted so this is my bad on my part.

The vsync doesn't matter because 2006 port works out of the box even without style switcher. It will still have better input frame than HDC. Styleswitcher mainly helps the game to be more compatible in modern PCs to run and removes frame drop or freezing whenever you enter different rooms in each mission.

Waifu ran the game with the HDC before the 06 switch because at that time he was more comfortable with it and did not want to deal with technical issues such as controller configuration.

Beforehand:

This is a useful resource for us to keep in check with each version iteration and find out which patch is the best for us to speedrun. For now, 1.0.7.0 is the best patch for NG2B speedruns

Version History (Steam Xbox/ PS5 ):

  • 1.0.1.0 / 1.001.000 - Release patch
  • 1.0.6.0 / 1.002.000 - Super-resolution bug fixes for Microsoft Store ver and other bug fixes patch notes
  • 1.0.7.0 / 1.003.000 - New Game+ release and game balance patch notes

Current Version (Steam):

  • 1.0.1.0 - 3287520 3287521 2665552210824253624
  • 1.0.6.0 - 3287520 3287521 4547057091695434748

This questions been asked multiple times in discord. Originally I wanted to keep it vanilla which assures for the most part that things are leveled and there won't be any unintended effects.

Normally mods are only ever be allowed in speedrunning, if it fall under one of this category: fixes game-breaking bugs, optimizes the game more, and just in general makes the game more accessible and enjoyable to play by improving performance..etc.

Because the runs are not in the optimal level state I will verify current farnham's run. And from now on these are the rules that you should follow:

  • Cosmetics mods must be made in Unreal Engine 5 and does not use third party tool such as Mod Loader..etc.
  • The mods of outfit recolors are allowed and safe. Example 1 / Example 2
  • The HUD change of HP UI to bring back the classic NGII feel are allowed
  • Original Ryu skin (NGII DLC) such as Shadow Walker and Biometal (Fiend Doppleganger from Ultimate Ninja03 mission) costume are they only acceptable skin swap since it shares the same hitboxes as NGII
  • All other mods are strictly banned

I am not planning open anymore flood gates to risk any unintended side effects for the game. These are more than enough to let PC players enjoy the game.

  • Ah It seems I forgot to update the link the moment we turned the server into community back then. Thanks for the heads up. I will also double check it across the difficulty.
  • There is misconception on Acolyte being the "normal difficulty" since the original NGII never really specified what is the default one. However, many of us has always preferred Warrior because of its pacing and routing and considered it "The Actual and intended default difficulty".
  • Feel free ask in discord if you have more questions.

  • Readjusted categories tabs
  • Updated rules to match modern style src
  • Moved True NG to misc category

We have reverted to the traditional character-based tab style, as it simplifies browsing and managing runs for users. The previous variable system posed challenges, particularly with categories like True NG, which is limited to the first 3 difficulty. Therefore, it cannot fit in the character-based tab.

Since the regular New Game category is more popular, especially with Ultimate Ninja runs, we have relocated True NG to the miscellaneous section.

I have updated the board by separation of Console and Emulator runs after community discovered that Emulator is indeed much faster than original hardware even if it's X360.

With the increased interest, it was decided by the community's vote that we will have to separate the categories between Emulator runs and Console.

If this game had current generation Xbox backward compatibility (or HD remaster) that would saved us all the trouble since that would be the most accessible way and fastest method to play the game. If that ever happens or receive Load Time Removal then we would merge it back again, but unfortunately, this is one of those games where it's stuck in 6th and 7th generation console.

Thank you for understanding and enjoy Genma Onimusha runs.

Problem with that you don't actually get a full co-op run. Because there are couple of segments that you are forced to solo such as chapter 1, 8 boss rush..etc. It's a shame but it's what it is.

  • Readjusted categories tabs

The extra tab in platform separation made the board bit more empty on the vita side. Another reason for that is just to make browsing much easier for the users instead of having to deal with extra variable.

At the moment, the vita exclusive category is only available in Ninja Dog as Equipment%. The rest will be only added if a runner made a run of that said category with vita's exclusive out of bond glitches. The old vita runs before the recent OoB discovery are still going to stay as obsolete in console section.

  • Added Test of Valor in IL for bonus segmented runs
  • Adjusted the IL variable difficulties to just Normal and Ultimate Ninja for now

Apparently, you can trigger the glitch by simply loading the save from the start of chapter 9. Although, there is surprise turn of event where we might think that this glitch might depend on the PS2 model or the Disc releases that we use:

  • Hinge and Yorisiro uses SCPH-90000 model with the original NTSC-J release, which was successful.
  • I use SPCH 39000 model with the best version (Greatest Hit cover NTSC-J release) and that replication failed.

The procedure I did was correct but as for the reason not working is not 100% there. I cannot tell if it's a model issue or the release I got since I do not own Onimusha 2 to test similar bug in Critical mode. Supposedly this bug is never fixed and the best version were released twice: one in 2006 and one in 2007.

Does this mean we are not allowed to use the glitch ?

No, because that would mess up good opportunities for players to have more variety in routes, discovery and applying safe strategies:

  • Having max Head Splitter early does not necessarily mean and confirmed that its significantly faster to make up the leads post-chapter 8.
  • I will not separate the categories based on the glitches/release..etc. Because this scene is very small and having bloated board is generally bad.
  • We still need further testing (NA/EU release...etc) and hope that this is not specific Dawn of Dreams ROM issue.
  • For now I will add variable called SP Glitch. This should only apply to fresh file categories only.

Recently, hinge encountered a phenomenon where Soki can get his Head Splitter Skill Point into max level very early before first encounter with Sakon fight. Normally at that stage, you are locked into Lv.3. However, if you beat chapter 8 Ohatsu save then start the game from the scratch will allow you to reach any skill point maximum level right from the start.

This bug is similar what Yorishiro found in Onimusha 2 with critical mode. Since it can be replicated consistently we will allow this in a run.

Here you will find list of adjustments made to the board here.

  • Moved Ninja Dog to the main board instead of being stuck at the category extensions
  • Created new platform sub-category that is focused on the vita platform

Once in a while there is been constant discussion regarding Ninja Dog being on the main board with the difficultly instead of being stuck in a category extensions. As a result of the demand, the change has been made.

Ninja Dog must be accessed in Normal difficultly by dying three times consecutively in Chapter 1, then accept the choices given to you. You will have to make save file for it. It's good idea to keep one every time whenever you reset the run.

As for the reason why Vita got separated. The 30 FPS and general lag on vita caused the game to create many Out of Bound skips by allowing Ryu to clip through environments by a simple roll or using Dual Sword's Thunder Slash (X, X, X, Forward + Y, Y) Some examples - Credits to Bobbykaze on these findings:

Since Vita Handheld is extremely hard to access, we decided to test the emulation for it. Fortunately, it runs the game accurately and in stable form. Therefore, it's allowed to submit in Vita sub-category only.

If this was level based then you would be able to play the intro chapter again. Same thing goes to fighting old bosses. This isn't Devil May Cry. You don't get result at end of each chapter just overall score at the end of the game. Accessing them in save files is different than having to actually selecting them. I'd rather have it to be a feature in a game.

You need to understand and factor that this is a niche game and difficult for many people to get into because of PS2 only platform. Emulation is not perfect either and have its own issues with menus and broken graphics...etc.

Just because nobody ran it doesn't mean it makes the point of 17 levels being valid. You are not under an obligation to have a category behind it either. If you are that desperate for an arbitrary category instead of running what's already there then just do single disc runs then I will consider adding them in ILs once its done.

  • No it's not fun and this game is not a level based at all.
  • You cannot replay old chapters. You just revisit older areas to grab miss-able items and such before jumping into new chapter.
  • The only thing that is relevant when it comes to level based is Dark Realm. Nothing more.
QatarLonerHero1 year ago

I have considered this in the past but at the moment no. The number of runners are incredibly small. If we had enough demand of runners who already made the runs as they are willing to grind the game further in general then maybe there is a possibility.

The emulator for Oni2 also have some issues on the accuracy with frames and such. I don't want to create multiple extra sub-categories just to only have 1 runner there.

QatarLonerHero1 year ago

Honestly at this point, regardless of the input version just avoid it. This port caused us enough trouble already. Have 2 separate Installation one for practice tools with input and other is for live attempt runs with just fresh 2.4.3 or 3.1.6. install from the nexus mod.

Will be listing adjustments made to the page here.

28-11-2023

  • Leaderboard overhaul. Story mode now is divided into Multiple route sections (Nobunaga/Samanouske/Jubei..etc.) with sub-categories NG (fresh file) / NG+ (loaded file with stats and equipment maxed).
  • Phantom Realm runs are available through IL board.
  • Adjusted some theme coloring
Tomizawa curtiram isso

...This isn't how NG+ defined. The structure is still a mess (which affects and prevents new runners from arriving). The names are also too long.
