I haven't run this game in a while but I was on Windows 10 back when I was running it and I think I used DXWND to do Windowed Mode.
i agree with the emulator thing - it might help get more runners on the board. I've always wanted to improve my time so using an emulator with save states might allow me to practice the sections I need without needing to play through the whole 3 to 4 hour run. And while, of course, we could practice on emulator and do our actual runs on console - allowing it might get more than the 5 or 6 runners we actually have.
Did you figure out what your PPSSPP settings are set to so I can fix my rendering issue? My newest PB that I haven't submitted yet has the rendering issue and I was worried it would get rejected so I'm holding that video back. I'd really like to try to fix the problem.
I sent it Wed. night but it was probably around 1am UK time so not surprised you didn't see it.
I didn't realize menu time didn't count towards IGT, that's interesting.
IDK if this will help us save time or not but I shared it with Punchy on Twitter and thought I'd share it here as well: in the room where you get the lightbulbs if you pick them up in a certain order, they are in the perfect order in your inventory so you don't have to scroll past any. Now picking them up in the right order may waste more time than it saves but I just did it in a run I just completed and I got a new PB. That could have been coincidence but I'm just throwing it out here for anyone that wants to try it.
So you pick up the left lightbulb first. Then pick up the right lighbulb and work your way back towards the left. So if the lighbulbs from left to right were numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 you would pick up them up in this order: 1,4,3,2.
Again, the time it takes to do this may negate any time you might save scrolling through your inventory but I've been trying it for a few days and so far I'm not noticing time loss at the very least so it's worth thinking about further testing.
I don't think I've changed anything from whatever the default was - Origins is the only game I play on this emulator. But sure, feel free to share your settings and I'll make sure mine match and everything.
Over a year later I've started running this game again and the "picture in a picture" thing that sometimes happens at the beginning of the game is still happening and I still can't figure out why or how to get rid of it. Sometimes restarting PPSSPP works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I get it 8 runs in a row and sometimes I don't get it all day. It's very strange. I took a screenshot of what I'm talking about. This scene at the burning house is the last time it happens in the run - it never appears after this segment again. But if I'm going to get it, I always get it in the burning house. Unlike the flashlight bug which is consistent, this one comes and goes and I have no idea what to do about it.
The rules are posted on the main leaderboard. You just have to select "View Rules" but I'll post them here so you can see them:
"The full game must be shown in the video with no cuts.
For your time, we're going to add up all your end times from each of the 7 levels. So, don't skip the results screen of each chapter too quickly or we'll have to reject your run.
If you're listening to music in the background, it must be low enough to still hear the game or the run will be rejected."
And when I say "no cuts" that means, no splicing in your best times from different levels if you're doing a full game run. Full game runs need to be one long video with zero cuts or splicing of any kind. And make sure you show your results screen as we use "in game time" on this leaderboard so the results screen is what we go by to add up your time (or verify your time for the individual levels).
Yeah I was expecting a mod to add it to the Resources page but I guess no one did it. Here's a non-expiring link https://discord.gg/cbtHMwGH5R
I'm not really a fan of doing that since you'd have to create a new profile every time you need to do a run so that you can prove you're re-earning the achievements. I suppose if enough people asked I would be forced to do it but I'm going to have to say no on that one unless more runners chime in requesting it.
I got added as mod today. There are a bunch of runs going back a year in here so give me a little time to watch them all and approve them.
I submitted a request to have me made a mod. Since I hold the all the world records I figure I would know how to verify runs about as well as anyone.
The moderator has been inactive on this site for about a year but they are still active on Twitter. if you don't want to wait for me to get added as a mod, you could try to reach out to them there - https://twitter.com/thaaohanshew
If you decide to wait for me, I'll verify them as soon as I get added.
Amawolf is in there too and it's got channels for speedrunning both games. Not sure why the link isn't on the speedrun page though. Maybe a mod can add it. They should probably make a new link though, mine will probably expire in a week.
I'm not a fan of it but I can't think of a reason not to allow it so I guess it's ok.
The Steam version of Submerged was just patched today with a fast travel button added to the pause menu for returning back to home base.
Might be useful during runs, might not. remains to be seen. Just thought I'd notify the board.
I just updated it. Go ahead and try again and let me know if it works
Then before we merge since that seems to be where this is headed, someone needs to make the autosplitter. Preferably one that works with video input rather than gameplay as Glitch Me suggested.
