Hi all, the previous moderator was MIA for well over a year so I had them add me. There were 3 pending runs (1 was my own) and the other 2 were from 7+ months ago. So, I just wanted to say we have an active mod now. Please let me know if there's any rule changes or anything we need to take a look at. If you weren't submitting runs because they weren't getting approved - please by all means start submitting again.
I also want to add some new categories. Glitchless will be the first one. I tested it the last 2 days and my best time is 23m50s but I'm sure if some of you have done runs in that category you've probably got better times so by all means, please submit those as soon as the category is live.
The last category I'm considering, but am not sure how to go about it, is a 100% category. I haven't looked into it enough to know whether or not it's doable or whether we should so any feedback you want to give on that last one would be great.
Any other comments/suggestions please feel free to let them fly and good luck with your runs everyone!
I've got it to work a handful of times now but it seems completely random whether or not it works or not. I can strafe along that wall near that spot gently (or rough) side to side and sometimes it catches and sometimes it doesn't. Seems incredibly inconsistent so far but at least I've got it to work finally.
There's a similar glitch in Slender The Arrival where we use kind of an invisible ladder to climb up and over something but it's a lot more consistent. Just need to figure out why I can't get this one to work consistently now.
Is there a consistent strategy/guide for how to do the glitch by the @ symbol on the sign after you get the demo cd? I've been trying to do that glitch for like an hour and I can't seem to get it to work. I've watched people do it but no one explains it. What's the trick?
Ok that explains why I wasn't really seeing the same behavior.
Although one weird thing I forgot to mention...when we got to the docks, that NPC followed me outside but then went back inside within a minute or so and the door they went through locks so you can't go back. And they never came back out. So, IDK what happened there but that happened.
I left my video unlisted because honestly I'm not sure I want to make it public. I got incredibly frustrated during the run and I imagine it's probably not pleasant to watch lmfao. But I'll post the link here so you can check it out if you want. I'd turn your volume down when I get irritated though.
I've never used the AiO patch. I use the GoG version so if that one is unpatched, that's what I'm using.
You can allow the pavillion jumps - I don't care. If it's allowed in glitchless on 1 then it may as well be allowed here. But yeah I had a few crashes and then I had one issue that popped up in multiple attempts where you're in the back of the truck shooting as she's driving down the road and then the next level loads and you're just in an empty cloudy space. With nothing else around but clouds. I had to restart from checkpoint at that point multiple times, including in the run I finally completed. So I hope that's not an issue. If it is, I guess I don't have a valid run.
If it's ok to use the patch though we should probably note that in the rules page.
I just finished my first glitchless speedrun for this game in 2hr44m38s. I am 100% sure it's going to be the slowest time out of whoever decides to submit for this. It was BAD. Really, really bad.
I don't ever remember getting this frustrated over the first game. I'm not sure why but I just really had a hard time running this one. Need a little break from it already lol
If you use the number keys on the top of your keyboard (or at least in my case anyway), you won't be able to access the note in question. Even though I triple checked my keybindings and made sure this wasn't the case, I had to use numberpad on the right side of the keyboard. That allowed me to open up the correct documents so I could read the notes she wanted me to read. No idea why the other numbers don't work for that specific page of Notes but it doesn't for me anyway.
I mapped Documents to 3 but hitting 3 on the top of the keyboard opens map (which is mapped to 2). But on the numberpad, they work correctly. Not sure why that's broken for me but it is.
Ok this is driving me nuts - I've tried to speedrun this (glitchless) multiple times this evening but every time I get to the apartment I get stuck. She keeps asking me to look at the documents. I've looked at every document a million times. All the maps. Everything. However, when I looked at an old playthrough of mine, I foundd 2 notes that I can't seem to find while I'm speedrunning. Note from Miles & Note From Carmen.
Does anyone know how to quicklly access these notes and where they're located? Because I swear I've looked at every note in those 3 books up and down and all 4 maps and I can't find these notes for Carmen & Miles but in my regular playthrough, I had to look at those before I could proceed. I even checked the keybindings to make sure I wasn't missing something. Documents wasn't mapped to anything for some weird reason. Maps is on 2 and Journal or whatever is on 4. When I set Documents to 3 all it does is open the Maps screen. So IDK if there's a general Documents page that I just can't get to or something but it seems so simple yet I can't find them.
Any help would be appreciated as this is frustrating the heck out of me and it's only a few minutes into the run.
I was just thinking about doing a glitchless run for this game. I already did a bunch for the first game long before the category ever got created.
So, sure - I'll vote yes. I'll do one, hopefully by this weekend if I have the time.
Game audio has to be audible at all times. That's pretty much a general rule for all leaderboards on speedrun. If audio cuts out (at any time for any reason) your run can be rejected.
Although my newest NG+ Casual speedrun was 1hr46m30s so I'm not really making a ton of progress there either I suppose. I'll have to think about which category I want to concentrate on. I haven't decided.
I did one NG+ Village of Shadows run in 2hr44m46s and I did not like it lol. I bet I died at least 25 times so I'm not even sure if that would even be acceptable to submit which is why I didn't bother uploading a video for it to my channel. But it was nice to get the challenges and achievements completed. I just don't think I'll be running that category anymore. I'll stick with something easier lol
Oh and on Village of Shadows, I used the same strat. However, I can't remember if he got in 1 roof animation on that one or not. But I only ran VoS on NG+ so I had maxed magnum with infinite ammo. On NG, good luck lol
Casual NG+ I clear Moreau fairly quick with no roof animation. Throw 2 pipe bombs as soon as he appears, then shoot him when he comes out of the mouth with your magnum. Works for me every time.
The first time I did it was an accident (1:31:18 in this video link below) but since then I've got it down pretty good. Use the Stake instead of the other magnum (fully upgraded, infinite ammo). Try not to knock yourself down like I do occasionally with the pipe bombs lol
EDIT: You can tell this was the 1st time I cleared it this way because I got really excited that I beat him in under a minute (which is one of the challenges).
Since I only voted on 3 before, I'll comment again. I vote No on all 4. Hopefully Pakachan will vote so we can break any ties between us. I'm sure Paka will vote for the skips & stuff to be included but it'd still be nice to get at least a 2 out of 3 on these.
- Skipping dialogue by saving and loading, or manually reloading a checkpoint / dying. (No)
- Using certain jump sequences to skip bigger parts of the dev intended route without going OoB or leaving the default level geometry. (e.g. climbing up the ship in chapter 13.) (No)
- Using first person mode to climb over fences (e.g. the end of chapter 3 to climb the fence by jumping over the lights instead of climbing the ladder). (No)
- Using the lunge in transformation to skip a small part of the dev intended route (e.g. chapter 17). (No)
Well I vote No on all 3 of those points you raised because none of those things are (imo) how the devs intended you to play the game. But I suppose we'll see how everyone else votes.
For me, a glitchless run means "playing the game fully as intended on the developer specified path without skipping content that you were intended to interact with." We have non-glitchless categories for this other stuff.
That's why when I did my glitchless run long before we ever even had a category, I didn't do anything that could even remotely be perceived as a glitch. It just feels wrong to have a glitchless category if we're using methods that would probably quality as a glitch in an Any% category.
I always look at it like this - did the developer intend for that to be an option for you? If yes, it's alright. If no, it's not alright. Obviously the beach skip (which I think you, Owl, also do a similar skip in your run where you hop on some lights to jump over a fence instead of taking the ladder like you're supposed to) is probably not what the developer intended you to do there. Saving and loading is also something I believe no dev ever intends a player to do in order to skip parts of their game.
The lunge is the only one in my opinion that is questionable. The other 2 feel 100% like glitches to me. You could make the argument that the lunge was an alternate way the developer intended for you to be able to reach that area but again, to me, it doesn't feel like it. I don't believe they intended for you to do that at all.
I don't see why not. The WR has a similar skip in another part of the game.
I consider skips to be glitches but I guess this glitchless board doesn't - so I don't see why you can't do that one.
I tried PS4 and PC and couldn't get it to work on either one. I tested it days ago but forgot to post the results.
