That run apparently has no video linked to it, so it's not possible to get the IGT without a video. The runner may have a video of it somewhere but just hasn't submitted it yet, so I'd recommend contacting them to see if that is the case.

I have added a new regular moderator (InprisonedShadow) and a new verifier (Olive) to Super Smash Bros. Melee. Along with slippy318, I have decided to do this in an effort to further clean up this game and sort more things out going forward. Some existing mods are busy and they may or may not be leaving because of that. We need to communicate better as an SSBM moderator team, and as a result I'm planning on setting up a small group chat for us to participate in going forward.

Things to do still include creating definitive rules about a number of topics like homebrew usage, 20XX usage along with if c-stick should be allowed or not, and more. A lot of runs still need IGT calculated and we can clean up the leaderboards' formatting more as well. As always, if anybody wants to share their feedback on this game's moderation and give ideas, feel free to message me.

I think Fuzzyness has a lot of experience with this category, so while there may not be a formal guide written up about the All Event Matches run, I'd recommend contacting him to gain more knowledge about what his strategies/plans are for the run.

topic: The Site
United StatesPokemonmaster8886 years ago

Thought I'd pop in when I read this topic as this subject has been brought up numerous times in the past and I want to make a clarification on it. I administrate Cyberscore and want to offer what I feel about this issue (and what our userbase feels as well). Mass scraping/importing/migrating submissions from Cyberscore to any other site is absolutely unacceptable as far as I'm concerned. This also applies to manual migrating on any scale. Not only is it unfair to our site, it's unfair to the users whose submissions you copy over without their permission. If you wish to have people's times from Cyberscore on the leaderboards here, you should contact them directly and ask for their permission to add them, or have them submit the times themselves (the better option).

I understand the desire to have data centralized on one site, but you must respect other communities' wishes. Although speedrun.com is popular, Cyberscore has been established for many years and is growing healthily. Regardless of your feelings about Cyberscore, my points stand.

I have added a new regular moderator to Super Smash Bros. Melee. slippy318 is knowledgeable about the game and has time to help out, so I have given him the position. He will verify runs and clean up the leaderboards (like fixing the mistake-ridden IL categories). I might add another moderator to help do things right regarding leaderboard moderation and run verification. I will see if any inactive mods want to step down as well, which I have already started doing. Lastly, I will see if we will make any significant changes to the game regarding mods, 20XX, C-stick usage or whatever else.

We don't get many runs compared to other games on speedrun.com, but I want the game moderated properly. Even though I'm usually busy and don't have much time to help out, I'll continue to try to organize things so that the game is kept in proper shape on speedrun.com.

@umbrionknight Video evidence for the top 3 runs in each category for SSBM is a requirement. I don't think you can enforce video proof for certain leaderboard positions as a mandatory thing specifically via the site settings for any game right now on speedrun.com, but it is stated in the rules at least for each category. Has been for years, at least in Melee's case.

I was notified about this issue by slippy318 and I have rejected the run. Please be sure to double check your submissions before submitting them, Crummycoast1! That is really important. If you want to contact the moderators for any game, check their profiles. Twitter and Discord seem to be very popular forms of contact right now. If you want to contact me personally, you can use those two options.

Hey Flappy Golfers! I noticed speedrun.com recently added Flappy Golf 1 and 2, and I've been watching things progress here for a couple of weeks. If you aren't aware, a community for Flappy Golf 1 and 2 already exists and we have a multi-purpose Discord server where we communicate about high scores and fastest times (mostly high scores at this time). Most of us come from Cyberscore where charts for flaps mode in both games and time mode in the 1st game exist.

That said, you guys are welcome to join the server and I can add a speedrunning channel or two in the server if you want to make it your base of communication. The server has been around since October 2016. Any questions can be directed towards me. Take a look and hope to see some of you around. :)

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. The moderator who verified it must not have checked the video properly. I have moved fumikazu's run to the proper leaderboard, so it's now fixed. A lot of the moderators currently seem to be less active/busy, so this run probably wasn't checked by anybody else. Let me know if you find other runs that are on the wrong leaderboards or have any other kind of problems.

ToxicToast: Having an IGT is not necessarily required, but it's highly recommended as it makes the leaderboards more accurate and will allow your run to be ranked properly. RTA for SSBM isn't really useful at all. So if you do runs, definitely calculate your IGT.

United StatesPokemonmaster8887 years ago

As I stated in another topic, I would be on the side of disallowing the 20XX version of Melee and anything that causes the game to function differently compared to its original behavior. I'm going to speak to the other moderators about this. Regardless of that decision, If we add any new categories, I want to see some dedicated support for them before adding categories nobody will run.

Proof is needed if you have a top 3 time. Whoever verified any runs in the top 3 that didn't have a video did so incorrectly. I believe the reason the IL leaderboards are messed up is because a past moderator changed all of the pre-existing IGT ILs times to RTA, doing so in error. This needs to be fixed but nobody has gotten around to changing everything back to the way it was, yet. It takes a lot of work and I have been very busy so I haven't done it up until now.

United StatesPokemonmaster8887 years ago

I'm for keeping the game unmodified and preserved to its original contents, so I'd say no to allowing C-stick mods. I don't know what the other moderators think though; I'll chat with them but for now I'd say not to use it.

I noticed that there were discrepancies among players regarding how to calculate in-game time for all categories for SSBM, so I decided to make this topic as a sole resource for easy location of how to do so. First off, please note that you do need to record your speedrun in order to be able to refer back to the video for the in-game times for each level. That's important as you have no way of getting the in-game time otherwise. It is the player's responsibility to calculate their own total IGT, not the moderator who verifies the run.

To get the total in-game time for your run, you have to add up the IGT for each stage. You do the following for every stage: First note the starting time on the in-game clock and then note the ending time on the in-game clock. You subtract the finish time from the starting time which gets you the in-game time for that stage (the time that passed). For stages in which you used a continue or failed, you note the time that you failed the stage at, and subtract it from the starting time. This is so players cannot segment their runs, essentially making the categories ILs. Once you have calculated the IGT for every stage in the run, you add them all up.

Using a calculator for this process is highly recommended. There should only be 2 decimal places at the max as the game only tracks up to 2. The Master Hand battle in Classic Mode begins at 4:59.99 so be sure to note that when calculating your time. The clock in All-Star automatically counts up so the IGT is displayed on-screen for you.

Some random examples of timing:

5:00.00 (start) and 4:51.28 (end) equals an IGT of 8.72. 5:00.00 (start) and 4:46.81 (end) equals an IGT of 13.19. 5:00.00 (start) and 4:34.52 (end) equals an IGT of 25.48.

That being said, nothing more than basic math is needed to calculate in-game time. I admit this is a bit of a tedious process, but it's well worth it because IGT is the most accurate form of timing for Melee. Real Time Attack is useless for SSBM due to the fact that there are so many variations for loading times between consoles/USB loaders/emulators. Getting a common ground for speedrunning competition is important, and the fact that this game has an in-game timer makes using it a logical choice.

If you have any questions, ask me or another moderator and we will assist you.

Two new moderators have been added for Super Smash Bros. Melee. Please welcome LOZRunner and hypermariosunshine! In addition, Warlord has decided to step down from his moderator position. He did a good job, so thanks to him for his time spent here. A bunch of work remains to be done, so these new mods will be helping out when they have time.

United StatesPokemonmaster8887 years ago

With some help from Warlord, I have finally finished moving all Individual Level runs over to the new formatted categories, which are variables set as subcategories. All of the old, poorly formatted categories have been deleted, so the leaderboards look much nicer now.

The remaining task now is to clean up the leaderboards on all levels further by calculating In-Game Time for runs that do not have it. Some videos are also private, which means they need removing or updating. I will work on that with the other moderators.

United StatesPokemonmaster8888 years ago

@Tritach I had answered this question in the other topic about in-game time. I'll explain again though. Please note that you do need to record the speedrun in order to be able to refer back to the video for the in-game times for each level. That's important as you have no way of getting the in-game time, otherwise.

To get your total IGT for the run, you have to add up the in-game time for each stage, which is the starting time on the in-game clock vs. the ending time on the in-game clock. You subtract the finish time from the starting time which gets you the in-game time for that stage (the time that passed). You then add these up for all stages in the run. It is a bit of a tedious process but well worth it because it is the most accurate form of timing for Melee. Real Time Attack is useless for SSBM due to the fact that there are so many variations for loading times between consoles/USB loaders/emulators. We wanted to get a common ground for speedrunning competition, and the fact that the game has an in-game timer made things a lot easier for us in that regard.

United StatesPokemonmaster8888 years ago

I have added the IGT you specified to your run. Thanks for taking the time to calculate it. We work on adding IGT to the runs that are missing it, but as stated originally, the runner should be the one actually doing that.

United StatesPokemonmaster8888 years ago

I asked Pac a few weeks ago to help right when I finished, but since I setup sub-categories in this particular way, he said runs cannot be moved. They can't be moved between normal categories and variables setup as sub-categories. So, that means I have to rely on the runners to do it themselves if they are to be re-submitted/added correctly. I could add them manually all myself, but I would like to ask permission first from each player (proper thing to do), which makes the process take longer. Some records are also not even submitted properly in terms of the actual time for the timing method given, so I wouldn't want to include those on the new charts anyway. I'll think of the best way to go about doing this.

United StatesPokemonmaster8888 years ago

Reporting a change to my update I did about 3 weeks ago for adding Event Match individual level charts. I have fixed the formatting and added the charts as they should have been in the first place, as sub-categories utilizing variables. The new groups are named "Individual Level Best Time", same naming scheme for all 4 IL sections. However, I saw that the rest of the existing IL groups had been added incorrectly before I even added my Event Match work, so the leaderboards are still a mess with badly formatted groups. I am leaving those old groups online for now because they have runs submitted to them.

Until the runs are submitted to the new, correctly formatted charts or are somehow moved, I don't want to delete those old groups. That would mean losing runs (even if the majority of the existing runs are improperly submitted in terms of timing), which I don't want to occur. There aren't a lot of runs on those old leaderboards, but even one legitimate run is valuable. If I can't get the other runners to submit to the new charts, I'm unsure of what I will do other than manually submitting runs for them. Stay tuned.
