Hey all, just wanted to let you all know Co-op runs are now a thing for all categories and ILs, as it was requested.
Remember 1pXc runs are allowed, just remember to put them under singleplayer, and use the variable that lists the number of CPUs being used so that it's obvious you are 1 person using more than one controller to take the place of an CPU
Thank you all for reading, happy running!
Due to information new to me, I will be changing the rules. The rules will now state as follows
"Time starts when you press start on the Life Point explanation screen. Turbo is banned Video is required Starting with 3 lives is mandatory Any difficulty will be allowed For NES runs submit here: http://www.speedrun.com/Galaga_NES"
I don't mind having the life rule up for debate if enough people want customizeable life counts as well.
I'm also getting rid of the whole single and double ship as for a long time it didn't make sense.
So instead what will be shown is the difficulty you did your run on, which has been assigned to everyone as rank A for the time being. Maybe in the future I will go and look through everyone's run's for it, but I'm not sure how long that will take nor the probability of me actually being very accurate with some of them.
Attention we have decided to start putting forward new emulation rules for each of the categories, similar to how we have done for Any% for quite some time.
These are the new lowest emulation times allowed on the leaderboard. (As of 12/30/21)
Any%: 45:00 100%: 2:15:00 189: 3:15:00 152: 1:10:00 Low%: 1:00:00 All Mazes: 25:00
Now there's another category not present on this list and that is the All Time Trials Category. Upon discussion we have decided to ban emulators for this category. All Time trials is an IGT oriented category, therefore the emulation's unoptimized frame rate could give players advantages at no cost of real time.
One more thing, it was always a gray area. We are officially regarding loaders such as Nintendont, and dios mios, etc. as emulators, thus they will follow those emulation guidelines. Reason being is that some things like dios mios alter the bios the runs the gamecube discs on wiis. Thus even if you have dios mios installed and run the game on disc it will still be invalid, due to the altered bios affecting the game. Now for things like nintendont, the concern is now more storage devices. Flash storage tends to be faster than standard discs, and with so many different kinds it creates this imbalance that we dont have efficient means to deal with. While the game isnt available to download, pretty much all versions of the game are relatively easily obtainable. If a different solution arises, we will re discuss it. As well as keep in mind this doesn't only go to the wii. For now, all forms of booting the console version in a similar way are following those emulation guidelines. As well as they apply to all regions of the game as well.
Thank you for reading, and if there are any more questions feel free to ask.
Hello, I've been attempting to learn this game, with varying degrees of success.
I would follow either 1st or 2nd place's run through a stage, and only sometimes they work. I'm aware of RNG, but Vykan mentions set RNG patterns and such. Sometimes I'll navigate a chapter, and be able to pull a consistent route through the level, but it gets Marth Killed. Another situation was going through the route, realizing Marth being weaker than he should in Prologue 4, and restarting the learning process to then have Marth properly leveled, but I followed all the map placements correctly, and I got different results?
I just feel like I'm missing something, and wanted to ask if there was an already written route/notes/info on handling the run, so that the learning process is not a shot in the dark.
I did some looking around and various forums mention something about things like the internal clock, being a factor in the RNG you get from the runs, but I'm not sure how any of that works or ties into the run or anything like that, and want to atleast ask if someone can point me in the correct direction.
Thanks in advance, and if there's like an FE speedrunning discord or something where I should be asking these kind of questions instead, I would not mind joining that.

The challenge stage rules were slightly altered
The challenge stage runs now end on when the "Number of hits" Text shows up for the respective challenge stage.
All runs have been retimed to reflect the rule change.
Hi, I thought I'd might ask about runs being done on ZSNES for Co-op Netplay. Might be a dumb question, but I didn't see any rules mentioning emulators. Thanks in advance.
Can Individual Levels be added to the leaderboards? It can be used to optimize specific levels with demonstrations of these more optimized routes, maybe have them timed from pressing the level to hitting the goal. And have sub categories being with/without additional abilities
Hello Pac runners, I would like the address the leaderboard sub categories for those of you that either don't know and want an explanation, or want to know why we did it.
Now to start with we have to understand the original Pac-Man is a simple game to play. But not a simple game to port apparently because there's an abundance amount of various ports of the game, and many of them are different. Most importantly the difference remains in the Ghost AI.
Now, optimally, we would want to manipulate the Ghost movement in according to our movement so that we can get a fast amount of points quickly, and ghosts are the fastest way to get points in this game.
So, since there are so many different versions of this one game, there would obviously be some issues. And because the Ghost AI manipulation is such an important piece of the run, Rallis, and myself, have decided because this changes routes dramatically, we would split it.
Now the main current sub-categories are NES Arcade and Pac-Man World 3. This is because each of these have notable different ghost AI. Now, they arent the only ones, and we should still have to pay attention to versions like the Atari 2600 version, or the Coleco Tabletop version etc. Due to the grand obscurity of these versions, we won't be adding sub-categories till a later date, when someone asks for it, and provides a run for the specified category.
Now, I compiled a youtube playlist of some notable versions of Pac-Man and came to the conclusion that most are similar. Versions like the GB, GBC versions are rather faithful to the Arcade in terms of ghosts. And for versions like Pac-Man World 3, and, the NES version, they were very different.
Now, all the versions in this playlist belong to Arcade, minus NES and Pac-Man World 3.
You can find the playlist of demonstrations here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc2TMukCACwBSpKh5DDx004cUN06iA1wW
Now as for the route I took to compile this together, it was the first part of the old NES route with a small difference, but all the movement was practically identical.
With that being said, thank you for reading, and good luck runners!
- Pac-man Mods
Quick Question: Why only the NES version? Instead of other versions too, like Arcade versions/Plug and Plays etc.
I've been wondering if there should be 152 and 189 Variants to the leaderboards as how RTA 100% is on the leaderboards as well. I plan to do IL runs for both of these categories to better show off their run exclusive strats, to not only show the strats, but to also assist others looking for them.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm slightly interested in running this game, and I would like to ask if there's big differences between the versions. I own the PS1 version personally, and since the rules are very simple this leads to my second question: Is video Required? If I do a PS1 speedrun, it means I get WR, but will I need Video for any run on the leaderboard? Thanks in advance
I've been noticing that the game gets a great amount of lag in the area where bowser's sub is. Has there been a solution to this problem?
