Rule Changes.

Due to information new to me, I will be changing the rules. The rules will now state as follows

"Time starts when you press start on the Life Point explanation screen. Turbo is banned Video is required Starting with 3 lives is mandatory Any difficulty will be allowed For NES runs submit here: http://www.speedrun.com/Galaga_NES"

I don't mind having the life rule up for debate if enough people want customizeable life counts as well.

I'm also getting rid of the whole single and double ship as for a long time it didn't make sense.

So instead what will be shown is the difficulty you did your run on, which has been assigned to everyone as rank A for the time being. Maybe in the future I will go and look through everyone's run's for it, but I'm not sure how long that will take nor the probability of me actually being very accurate with some of them.

You want to get rid of the eight challenge stages? or do you want to get rid of challenge stage 1 because extra life 1 is by default faster? either way I do not agree, I believe both categories are fair and serve their own purpose. Our opinions are flipped anyway, I believe challenge stage should be the standard baseline while extra life is there if you want to do it.

As far as the rule changes go, I think getting rid of the double ship and single ship was a very good choice because It was more of an annoyance than anything and it really didn't add important information about the run. You did a good job with the rule changes.

I can kinda see your point, but I don't think it's a reason to really get rid of it.

While yes it is optimal to get the extra life at the challenge stage. That doesn't mean everyone is going do it.

I think you're delving well into the realms of being rude.

It is true the tracks tend to run similar, but if you'll simply look at CS 1 vs EL 1, you'll see that your theory is wrong. You have to hit a certain number of 400 pt Bosses in the air on Stages 1 and 2 to have enough points to get the Extra Life before the 10,000 bonus, which comes after the NUMBER OF HITS signifier, something most entries have not done, or have only done by sacrificing time to get doubled up, making it pretty much impossible to get a top time.

There is also the ability to skip Stage 2, which will grant you a very good time, but will not grant you an Extra Life, even after the CS is completed. This is true for CS2 / EL2, as well. Actually, there's a lot to be explored with stage-skipping, which would be a massive separation on points/time. And point pressing isn't a 1:1 thing, there are several hybrid theories and point-per-second exchange points. For instance, you can kill bugs do fast that Triple Bug bonuses don't even spawn. Now, it's almost certainly worth it to kill off the 1000s fast... but not the 3000s, as that's the lions share of a whole new stage. And what about the 2000s?

Your point loses merit as the game progresses. It's most true, but still wrong, for CS1 and gets less true as time goes on.

Why are you so combative on this? What is your expertise on the matter?

@danielr

Are you mistaking my reply for lozplyr89?

Why would you throw your submissions in the bin just because someone doesn't delete a category you don't like? Just submit them anyway.

What is your deal, man? Bye!

We are all just trying to have fun at the end of the day.

@danielr you should post your 1:03 time, it would give me another goal to work towards. Hopefully its for challenge stage 1 and not extra life 1, I already have a 1:03 pending for extra life 1. :(

Edit: I just beat the time, 1:01 now.
