Earlier this week, The Behemoth released a new update that changes how the map generates. My immediate thought was "this might affect how fast runs can be and slow down the run by forcing more fights". However, after doing 1 single run of Any%, I did a 1:13:42, beating the current Any% record that is on 1.1.1, on an update I declared might be slower and might justify a split.
This was a decision I made myself and didn't ask anyone for opinion, so I guess I should ask now. Should there be a category split between pre-1.2.0 and 1.2.0, or should we keep them combined and keep a category split for when there is actually a big change in the run?
I have plans on creating one. When I have the time to set one up, I will. It definitely will help with strat discussions and just bringing all Alien Hominid games under one Discord.
It looks interesting enough, but it wouldn't be a main category. I'd add that as a miscellanious category since it does beat the game, but it isn't exactly what many would call a "real speedrun". At the very least, it's a different category from the current "Any%".
Edit : Created the category and added the run.
I'm gonna test to see if something like that is possible, but I would not allow that for the speedrun since you would be using an existing character to bring a new one further, defeating the purpose of the run.
The goal is to complete the 6 missions the game gives you as a new character, since the bosses are always the same on them and they have cutscenes. Even if the cutscenes still happen, the rules of Any% is to create a new character for the run. Bringing in an old character with a good setup to bypass the "this is a new game" rule wouldn't be fair.
For when co-op runs are added (there are no runs of it but I assume there will be eventually), I personally would still only permit new characters to partake on the run, not existing ones.
yeah but i guess i picked the habit of not verifying my own runs. i guess i can
Just posted a thread then saw this one, woops, anyway Spaceport Alpha
(Edit) Faster way of doing it
not very viable for runs and currently slower than just doing the race, but it is possible
and now i reload the game, use my tas's save before doing the puzzle and get 10 coins
alright so... i dont get it
i just tested doing the sand puzzle on desmume 0.9.11, and got 10 coins so i told myself "ok, must be a 0.9.9 bug" then i went and did the puzzle on 0.9.9 and got 10 coins and now in confusion i load a save state from my tas, do the puzzle manually and get 30 coins
there is something going on here
so i found my copy of the game and i'm a bit more interested in making my tas now, as well as learn the game because of course i will need to.
In what i have done of my old tas, when i go do the sand puzzle, i get 30 coins per circles (i assumed i will need them to upgrade my vehicles asap), but when i do it on console i get 10.
anyone know why? is there something about "oh this is a good circle", is it rng or is my emulator rom bugged?
Yeah, I'm currently working on TASing Dino Domain for an any% TAS (which I wouldn't mind restarting since I have done a few optimisation mistakes, as well as not really knowing the strats) and this game seems hard to break. Hub world OOB might not matter much since you would still need all balloons, trophys and TT emblems to fight Wizpig 2, but OOBs in races could save some nice time.
Also can I have an explaination as to why Taj/Wizpig in Downforce 2 is faster than using Air?
