Earlier this week, The Behemoth released a new update that changes how the map generates. My immediate thought was "this might affect how fast runs can be and slow down the run by forcing more fights". However, after doing 1 single run of Any%, I did a 1:13:42, beating the current Any% record that is on 1.1.1, on an update I declared might be slower and might justify a split.
This was a decision I made myself and didn't ask anyone for opinion, so I guess I should ask now. Should there be a category split between pre-1.2.0 and 1.2.0, or should we keep them combined and keep a category split for when there is actually a big change in the run?
not very viable for runs and currently slower than just doing the race, but it is possible
so i found my copy of the game and i'm a bit more interested in making my tas now, as well as learn the game because of course i will need to.
In what i have done of my old tas, when i go do the sand puzzle, i get 30 coins per circles (i assumed i will need them to upgrade my vehicles asap), but when i do it on console i get 10.
anyone know why? is there something about "oh this is a good circle", is it rng or is my emulator rom bugged?
Are there any difference between any% and 100% other than getting gold on the balloon touch challenges or is any% just 100% but you don't need to be perfect?
So I'm wondering when does the time end in the run specifically, is it at the last text box, when the final boss is killed of last text box before end credits?
Also for the people with Complete Edition, is it allowed to use the bonus items/digimons given to you or is it banned? Also since I have the game on Switch and do a run of the game on it I couldn't submit it since the only platforms allowed are PSVita and PS4. (would also apply for owning it on PC)
Right now Standard and HD versions are different subcategories of any%, but since they are different versions of the game (like GBA), I feel like we could make them more separate categories. Difficulties will remain subcategories, with Easy still being prioritised on the leaderboards.
I want people to tell me what they think of making then separate, and have Any% Standard and Any% HD being separate like we have currently with GBA.
Also, 100% GBA has been removed since there are no hats and thus no true 100% completion.
I made a TAS beating the game with 17 stars, which basically shows how a 17 star run would look like (of course, better than a human)
route is not the best tho, and a few stars are too hard for humans to do as fast. bridge (in course 1) can be changed for either switch or bounce (course 4)
For Circuit Mode runs, it only requires you to play every circuits, right? So you can just lose every circuit if I'm not wrong.
If the above is "yes", then I would like another category to be added, called "Any%". It's basically is just "Beat every circuits from a new file" since it "Beats the game" (the credits roll after winning the last circuit) or it could just be called "All Trophies", but then you wouldn't need to create a new file. My current Circuit Mode run is this type of run, so if this gets accepted, my run would need to be moved to this new category.
I want this because just having a run where you lose everything is not that fun to watch, and it would be a pretty hard/interesting category to learn and run, since you need to throw some events to save time, but then you need to absolutely win the others.
I'd like to learn the speedrun of this game, but I don't know why there is different categories of consoles. Is there some glitch making the version different or is it just to make load times fair between leaderboards? I guess it would be the 2nd option, but can someone confirm this?
Should there be minimal items runs? Like a low% run for each ending? Could be a misc category. I don't know if it would be ran, but I think it would be a cool run.
Since every head is obtainable via normal gameplay, I don't see why we would need to allow name cheats. Plus, there's no rules that bans inserting names before starting, so it could be cheated.
I'm posting this here for Festival runs mostly, but it can be useful in other categories. Time is from "Start!" appearing to final pose.
Swan Lake : 1:34 Skaters' Waltz : 1:33 Fantaisie Impromptu : 1:36
Ave Maria : 2:02 "Spring" (Four Seasons) : 2:34 "Waltz of the Flowers" (The Nutcracker) : 2:20
Mario World : 3:29 Sonic World : 3:29
So for the first Figure Skating in Festival Mode, you can really choose whatever, but Skaters' Waltz is fastest by a second. Second time, spam A for Ave Maria, by far fastest. For the dream one, choose whatever, both are the same length.
And yes, I played Figure Skating for almost half an hour for this.
Can those be a category? For boss rush, timing would be from choosing which boss you fight to seeing "Congratulation". For time trial, we could use in-game time.
TS difficulty doesn't allow to finish the game. It stops at 1-3. Maybe make a misc category of it.
Why isn't there IL chapter levels, that could be useful to compare strats and optimise some.
Do you need to start with a fresh save to do an any% run or you can use a pre-ended game (every level already cleared)?
