Hi! To answer your questions, their was a Discord but it dissolved a while ago, and currently there is no glitchless category as most of the 'glitches' are just areas you can jump over with jaunt or imperfectly drawn combat areas. That being said, feel free to hit me up if you need anything about the run explained and I'll glady walk you through what I know.
You are not frame capping your runs, which is required for the leaderboards. Please enable a framerate display on your runs showing they are capped at 60 fps.
Currently there is no category for new game plus which is what recursions would be, so yes, it will have to be a fresh file. That being said, I think a NG+ category would be interesting as it would open up lots of new strats and wouldn't be opposed to making a leaderboard for it if we got some runs of it.
I'm down for taking up mod if you need. I stop by the transistor boards every day any way.
So steam depot through the console is kinda gone even though the infrastructure to pull depots is still there. There is a program called DepotDownloader that is not the easiest to use (requires running via cmd lines, have to plug your steam account info directly into, have to know your exact depot and manifest) but it does get around the issues with steam not providing that service officially anymore.
The steam overlay fps counter is sufficient to make sure you are at 60 fps, youll need version 1.49815 for the load remover to work, play in fullscreen if you want to constrain your mouse as Super Giant Games didn't build a robust set of options when porting this game to PC, and we had a discord before I joined but it was deleted with how little traffic it got. Good luck on your runs and hit me up if you have any specific trick questions. (also the run is pretty chill imo, fight strats are the only thing I think are actually hard)
So, apparently to prevent a softlock, Super Giant made it so the fetch fight after grant and asher just doesnt happen if you dont have an attack equipped. All that said, if you swap to just jaunt at the end of bracket towers, you can skip the fight after the swarm cutscene. Yay doing the second man fight in low% without load as well!
PC uses an impossibly high amount of rng seeds compared to console, with frame count and system time choosing from hundreds of thousands of seeds. More importantly, the game makes a new rng seed every time a save file is loaded so even if you use a cure list to find your current rng values, you have to get through town, onto the airship and to the chest while accounting for EVERY NPC on the way. There is really no way to find where you are in the rng without looking at it directly. It might be worth making a seperate category for PC that allows the tool to make for a more interesting experience.
So I am interested in getting into FF XII PC but I had a question about seitengrat. With an application like shown here: you can track the rng values to time entering the airship on the right frame and then opening the chest on the right frame. Would a tool like this be allowed for the speedrun or is tracking the rng like this disallowed?
For those interested, there is now a World of Light Bingo Card available on bingosync.com which you can find in the dropdown under Smash Ultimate: World of Light. Right now the card is primarily meant for fresh profile World of light runs and has goals intended to be completed before defeating Galeem though I am interested in expanding it if anyone has suggestions. I also have a guide I compiled to help run the light side fights to help ease routing a card without having to scour the internet for resources available at https://bit.ly/37k7TKd
If you have any feedback or suggestions for maintaining/upgrading/updating/expanding it, feel free to pm me and GL on your runs.
So the game can handle an open terminal and level up simultaneously. I now finally have an excuse to choose rain or snow mid run :D
Here is the setup: I'll spend tonight testing how this affects the other parts of the run.
So I was teaching a new runner the game and he accidentally discovered a new fight skip in highrise. The fetch and weed fight at the top of the elevator auto scroller can be skipped by disjointing a save into their arena and from there you can proceed to do the elevator glitch as usual to prevent the soft lock at spine. I will get video up in the next day or so.
Would providing the x86 and x64 folders from the downpatch work? I have a backup of those folders I paste over everytime steam re updates and it gets mine to work and it wouldn't be the full game so not technically providing a full game.
Which version does it say on the pause screen? The load remover works on steam with 1.49something or another
A quick question to the Transistor Speedrunning community: should the invisible button, which allows a player to gain an extra skill at specific levelups, be allowed in Low% since it doesn't award xp or levels or should it be banned? This button off screen in Port 37 allows the player to gain a skill they chose not to take if their last levelup was a choice of multiple skills. It doesn't technically award a level or any xp but it raises a interesting question for Low% regardless. Here is a video of the glitch in action below:
