I don't think my word should be taken at any higher value than any other runner, especially as I'm not active in the game anymore, but I'll share my thoughts.
Whether climb skip or rocket storage is used or not, it's still a means to finish the goal of the categories. A category split should usually have a very different aim for the run. I think a variable would do just fine, like there is on the (PS1) Spyro 2 100% leaderboard. It really is just another route option. If you'd like to compare to runs that don't use climb skip or rocket storage, it is very very easy to do so with filters. I often hear the argument "nobody uses filters" and I don't think that's true. I frequently use them when there are variables involved. Hell, even just to see what the PAL Spyro 1 120% or the NTSC Crash 2 100% leaderboards might look like.
Discussion is a very good thing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in a well-organized manner.
I'm not sure how you'd be okay with me showing it if they don't come clean. I said thanks in advance because I didn't plan on following up on it and thanking him later. I'm not this dude's babysitter. You don't see it in the screenshots, but I had messages from him dating back to October. It was outrageously frustrating to interact with a person who I called out to his face what he was doing in private only to be met with a lie (even only about a week ago, mind you!). I don't want to go into a new conversation with a new person in the future and have some doubt in the back of my head or feeling like I shouldn't default to trusting them automatically. That's a new perspective I already carry into some situations. Probably not fully due to this guy specifically, but people like him. Being a bad person is harmful to yourself and to others.
https://www.speedrun.com/knowledgebase/moderation-rules It's all answered here.
This seems like something you'd learn through some testing and timing yourself. Good luck!
Yes, flashpoint is pretty well known now! This thread was 2 years old.
Thanks. Them not moving ranks isn't a good reason to be willingly lazy.
I don't need to mod it, but please check "enforce ms" under each category. Seeing runs rounded or truncated to the nearest second is infuriating. Also to whoever ends up modding it, PLEASE edit out the thousands decimal spot. If a user submits a time saying 4m 20s 69ms, it'll show up as 4:20.069. Just edit it and add a 0 after the 69. :)
As of now, there are 6 existing runs that break this rule, one of which is WR which is just.. lmao. Somebody clean this up.
It's generally bad practice to sit idly at the start of any game without the timer running. Sometimes there are cycles already started by the time you gain control, it's all really silly. This game doesn't have anything like that in particular, but having a consistent standard across most games can be a good thing.
The argument about playing on mobile seems irrelevant, I'm not sure where that's coming from. If you have trouble starting your timer and playing right after skipping a cutscene or starting a file (on any game), try using a start delay and/or retime your run when you're finished.
Basically it's just the standard and it's good practice. If you know of a game that allows idling at the start after control is granted to the player but without the timer having started, you really should be questioning why on those games and not on this one.
I agree with my dear friend FrostySR. If however you are actually playing on the DSiWare version of the game and are still experiencing this technical issue, get back to us as soon as possible. We at Bloons TD 4 Moderating take our roles very seriously and there is nothing too small for us to want to jump in and help out with. @zacharylawrence for example can help you with motivation if you are struggling to beat Daisy Chain on Medium. I never thought I would beat this game without him cheering me on.
Okay. Post your run here when you complete it and we'll be sure to add it!
I agree with the decisions and ideas being put forward. I strongly dislike the idea of setting up towers before the timer starts because placing towers is a huge part of Bloons TD speedrunning. I'm glad we all seem to be on the same page.
To be safe, it is best to run a community poll in case one of us is lying through our teeth.
##↓↓↓ POLL HERE, PLEASE VOTE ↓↓↓ https://www.strawpoll.me/42978767 ##↑↑↑ POLL HERE, PLEASE VOTE ↑↑↑
Please understand that the poll is anonymous, so please share your true thoughts in the form of a vote - you only get one! It's not that I don't trust either of you, I just think a simple set of checks and balances will help us all get started on the right foot together.
This community will go a long way if we can some day not resort to a poll like this every time. Do your part.
Hello ladies and gentlemen! I am here to take the reins and lead the charge on what could be the speedgame of the decade. Hang tight as I work with my colleague @f1 to make sure we get every detail correct.
Here at Bloons Tower Defense Speedrunning, we are eager to be a very hands-off moderation community. You make the runs, so you should make the rules too! Is the Boomerang Monkey OP? Try No Boomerang Monkey%. Are you obsessed with Tack Shooters? Try Tack Shooter%!
Now I know what you're thinking: "Jumpyluff! You're going to have a full game sweep! I'm scared!" Don't worry about that! I actually have no plans to speedrun this game at all! My favorite tower is and always has been the Banana Farm, and we all know how inefficient that is for a speedrun (except maybe f1).
Please bear with me as we get the leaderboard up and running. If you too are interested in contributing your time and effort into keeping the leaderboard spick and span as a moderator of this page, send a message to @f1 on speedrun.com! Be sure to include your username, previous moderation experience, your best Bloons PB of any game, and why not let him know your favorite tower while you're at it!
As a whopping 25% of the speedrun community for this game, I agree. I'm not interested in collecting 10 bubbles or 1 star and memorizing (if they're consistent) or grinding (if they're random) 12 puzzles that add no extra gameplay.
A solution of "top times" requiring it should be based on the time of the run rather than leaderboard placement. In an ideal world, those top 30 runs would continue to drop as they are beaten. Sub 3:20 or sub 3:15 for example for Any% is a better idea if a restriction must be put in place. I'm not sure how many people are making sick bank off their no audio red ball runs, so plenty of runs will still have music surely.
