No please do not submit it as a google drive as that won't get embedded into the site either and would require being downloaded for viewing.

So this has yet to be tested, however I can't imagine the load time difference will be too noticeable as Xbox already has fastest load times by a significant enough margin, as it's loads, while not instant, might as well be in comparison to the other versions.

If you do plan to run on the game loaded from an HDD though it would fall under emulation guidelines.

https://www.speedrun.com/pmw2/thread/og710 This post outlines the ruleset, and reasons. Basically these runs are allowed but if you use emulation/boot methods other than the original disc, after a certain time your runs wont be verified till you play on an actual disc.

Hey all, just wanted to let you all know Co-op runs are now a thing for all categories and ILs, as it was requested.

Remember 1pXc runs are allowed, just remember to put them under singleplayer, and use the variable that lists the number of CPUs being used so that it's obvious you are 1 person using more than one controller to take the place of an CPU

Thank you all for reading, happy running!

Are clone NES Systems regarded as actual console, or emulator?

I can't really find much on this topic other than "It's not official hardware and would likely get put under emulators" which is a valid argument, but what is like the actual verdict of moderation for these?

I recently obtained a Classiq N. Im not sure if it's just this one that could be accurate or not, or perhaps another one could be more accurate, or that its too much of a headache to even bother with it and put it under emulation. idk honestly.

What do you mean by filler?

If you mean simply link the twitch version instead then yea, you can do that.

Highlight it on twitch and just provide the highlight link in the submission.

I can kinda see your point, but I don't think it's a reason to really get rid of it.

While yes it is optimal to get the extra life at the challenge stage. That doesn't mean everyone is going do it.

Due to information new to me, I will be changing the rules. The rules will now state as follows

"Time starts when you press start on the Life Point explanation screen. Turbo is banned Video is required Starting with 3 lives is mandatory Any difficulty will be allowed For NES runs submit here: http://www.speedrun.com/Galaga_NES"

I don't mind having the life rule up for debate if enough people want customizeable life counts as well.

I'm also getting rid of the whole single and double ship as for a long time it didn't make sense.

So instead what will be shown is the difficulty you did your run on, which has been assigned to everyone as rank A for the time being. Maybe in the future I will go and look through everyone's run's for it, but I'm not sure how long that will take nor the probability of me actually being very accurate with some of them.

@FootofGod

I would be completely down to add 1 million points when we figure out this whole scramble with the ruleset, that's completely okay with me.

Various ports of the game call the difficulty a different thing, from what I understand the easiest way to verify the difficulty it's supposed to be is when enemies begin shooting on incoming in the second round.

If I remember correctly that is the "Standard Fresh Arcade Machine" that's why that's the rules set in place. It's to make it as Default as possible, the problem and confusion starts when the default for every port is called something different.

Namco is a pain with it's ports. They are rarely consistent with them, and from what I learned when I used to moderate the original pac-man, is that a lot of the time there's variance between each port of the game that makes it different from the last and generally you have to take things on a case by case basis.

So this was decided when the board was first created (like four years ago ish I believe). My mind is a bit hazy from that long ago to be honest. I've gradually learned more and more, and attempted my best to research the game as much as possible and I believe that "Hardest" for the original arcade game was the "default". Namco calling this normal because it is the "default difficulty" makes sense. We do have to play a little bit of guessing with this though. Not all ports are created equal and namco is known to get lazy with the way they handle ports on occassion.

I understand some of the confusion a bit, however I don't understand how that run is inconsistent and shouldn't have been verified.

That being said, I'm willing to discuss the rules, like I said my mind is a bit hazy from that point in time, and I know I don't know everything about this game, so if I made a mistake, I made a mistake and I have no problem in admitting that.

If you would like, I can give you some contact information and we can discuss more of this.

@Sintec

From what I remember your runs checked out I wanted to go check them but you put your videos on private.

I won't take down any of your runs and if a rule change happens it would be grandfathered in. (But please don't put them on private anymore)

A little bit late, but Yes. Submit it under Solo and put 2 cpus, to represent there's 2 controllers plugged in and on, and 2 slots that are open.

Attention we have decided to start putting forward new emulation rules for each of the categories, similar to how we have done for Any% for quite some time.

These are the new lowest emulation times allowed on the leaderboard. (As of 12/30/21)

Any%: 45:00 100%: 2:15:00 189: 3:15:00 152: 1:10:00 Low%: 1:00:00 All Mazes: 25:00

Now there's another category not present on this list and that is the All Time Trials Category. Upon discussion we have decided to ban emulators for this category. All Time trials is an IGT oriented category, therefore the emulation's unoptimized frame rate could give players advantages at no cost of real time.

One more thing, it was always a gray area. We are officially regarding loaders such as Nintendont, and dios mios, etc. as emulators, thus they will follow those emulation guidelines. Reason being is that some things like dios mios alter the bios the runs the gamecube discs on wiis. Thus even if you have dios mios installed and run the game on disc it will still be invalid, due to the altered bios affecting the game. Now for things like nintendont, the concern is now more storage devices. Flash storage tends to be faster than standard discs, and with so many different kinds it creates this imbalance that we dont have efficient means to deal with. While the game isnt available to download, pretty much all versions of the game are relatively easily obtainable. If a different solution arises, we will re discuss it. As well as keep in mind this doesn't only go to the wii. For now, all forms of booting the console version in a similar way are following those emulation guidelines. As well as they apply to all regions of the game as well.

Thank you for reading, and if there are any more questions feel free to ask.

Not tonight, personal issues came up

I will work on these when I get free time over the course of the week.

Well for me, life has been really busy for me actually, and a lot of things have been taking up my time.

Danielr, I honestly don't remember the issue that was brought up with you being a cheater.

I do remember a Wolfmame conversation though, not sure if it's with you or someone else, and if you would like to discuss it further I will gladly give you my Discord contact information and we can take it from there.

Sundex, your runs will be looked at tonight hopefully.

My apologies for my absence

Hello, I've been attempting to learn this game, with varying degrees of success.

I would follow either 1st or 2nd place's run through a stage, and only sometimes they work. I'm aware of RNG, but Vykan mentions set RNG patterns and such. Sometimes I'll navigate a chapter, and be able to pull a consistent route through the level, but it gets Marth Killed. Another situation was going through the route, realizing Marth being weaker than he should in Prologue 4, and restarting the learning process to then have Marth properly leveled, but I followed all the map placements correctly, and I got different results?

I just feel like I'm missing something, and wanted to ask if there was an already written route/notes/info on handling the run, so that the learning process is not a shot in the dark.

I did some looking around and various forums mention something about things like the internal clock, being a factor in the RNG you get from the runs, but I'm not sure how any of that works or ties into the run or anything like that, and want to atleast ask if someone can point me in the correct direction.

Thanks in advance, and if there's like an FE speedrunning discord or something where I should be asking these kind of questions instead, I would not mind joining that.

Xbox load times are actually faster than the gamecube.

Overall the gamecube version is still the faster version because of other factors, but it's not a very big difference in terms of time loss, noticeable, just not large.

I should note while I am currently learning Richter All Bosses, I do not have previous experience speedrunning the game.

That being said, I am learning on the PSX Disc version being played on a ps3, and will move to the ps4 when the re release drops.

I personally did not feel less motivated to learn the game, and went in full knowing I was in a disadvantage state. My perception is that if I really wanted to, I completely could get the XBLA version, but decided to just start learning on the version I already owned, instead of putting in more money before completely understanding the dedication I want to put in.

I am generally against splitting of regions/consoles as ejecting people out of competition on the basis of a percentage of people feel its unfair competition. I completely feel if its a legitamate release of the game, it should be compared with all other legitamate releases of the game, emulator being it's own game by game monster the community needs to deal with.

I feel in this case, keeping the way the leaderboards have been would be best.
