Yeah, that's a good point. I hadn't thought about that. Will update the rules accordingly!

Looks like my last comment didn't get posted or got rolled back because of security issues with the site.

The Any% Mobile runs don't require a video due to the way the runs work. The only thing required to verify those runs is a screenshot of the timer.

The 100% runs, however, do require video proof so we can establish that the runner actually collected all of the required items. Likewise the Any% Glitchless runs require video proof to establish that the runner didn't perform any glitches during the run.

Gamer5000, were you referring to an Any%, or an Any% Glitchess/100% run?

Do I need a brand new device to be competitive?

Illinois, USAjocloud316 years ago

Hello all! I've been added as a mod for Tiny Dangerous Dungeons, and the first thing I've done is added an Any% Glitchless category!

I'll be revamping the rules for runs but I wanted to get feedback from the runners before I go changing everything. I'm proposing the following:

  1. Video for all runs required, including in-game sound.
  2. Times now include milliseconds. Since TDD only shows to the hundredth of a second, you'll enter your times as MM:SS.XX0 (or 0:59.170 for example)
  3. Verification required for all runs.

I'm open to any and all suggestions and look forward to adding new runs. Let's see how low we can get that glitchless time!

https://www.bluestacks.com/

Bluestacks is the most common Android emulator for PC. It's I'm not familiar with any others, but I'm sure they exist.

I've also created a guide here: https://www.speedrun.com/Cat_Bird/guide/kkex4

If and when we get new levels with new crowns I'll keep that updated as well.

It's strange that there's no way to mark a run obsolete, since there site already does that when you beat your own run on a leaderboard. I'm good with a misc category too though. Accomplishes the same thing in effect.

Will they be deleted, or is there a way to simply mark them obsolete? This would hide them without removing them altogether.

Also, if we do that is it possible to label them as newest patch and old patch it something like that? I'm specifically thinking of the way the Sonic Mania boards are run

It's worth mentioning that Floating Speedrun Timer for Android is awesome and the developer for it is amazing as well. A recent update caused it to crash on startup on my phone and he pushed a new update the night after I reported it with a fix.

What the hell happened there?! It's like he did the hat trick from the beginning of the act again, then after you died knuckles just bamf'd out of existence

I support this as well. The only category that needs RTA is Original mode on the genesis. Everything else would be better served looking exclusively at IGT.

The thing about Original Mode is that it doesn't have an IGT, unless we're adding up the IGT for all races. Otherwise, it would have to run RTA, in which case original mode WOULD be affected by inaccurate speed on an emulator. I know I'd totally work on and run Original mode, but I don't really have the option to re-acquire a Genesis and set up recording for it at this time.

Hey guys - I just discovered this page for Super Hang-ON, which is easily one of my favorites. I understand the desire to limit runs of the original mode to actual Hardware due to accuracy in processing speed, but I was hoping an exception could be made for extremely accurate emulators such as Kega Fusion: http://www.segaretro.org/Kega_Fusion

The Fusion emulator is widely accepted in the speedrunning community. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work here as well.

Yeah, I have it set up right now. Future runs will be golden

The same thing can happen if you're moving too quickly to the left as normal Sonic as well. I accidently did that with a drop dash during my first run

Floating Timer is good. I'll probably be using that for additional runs as well now.

I currently have a Motorola Droid Turbo 2 that is falling apart. On-device audio recording appears to be exclusive to the Samsung game launcher for devices that are not rooted. All other Android devices record game audio by "listening" with the device's microphone to what's playing through the speakers.

The concern is mainly that for anyone with a phone like mine (Verizon has this phone so locked down that root isn't even possible on it), the audio quality is going to be pretty terrible.

I do plan on getting a new phone soon, at which point this will no longer be an issue for me, but it's worth mentioning in general. The game is also supposedly getting a steam release soon, which would nullify most concerns here.

I was mostly just thinking about the fact that I'm much more precise and comfortable using a keyboard than I am using touch buttons on a phone screen. It's much easier for me to know exactly when to press a physical key down to get a quick response than trying to do the same on a touch screen where it may actually register a press before I touch the screen at all.

Illinois, USAjocloud316 years ago

The built-in "Game Time" feature should do that. If you right-click and select Edit Splits you can manually enter your IGT splits

I see that Vysor allows for the use of mouse and keyboard with your device. Would this invalidate the run? Are controllers allowed on mobile runs?
