We've had some interest on the speedrunning front for this game and they want a leaderboard.

They tried to request for one but was denied by reason that it's up to the series moderator to add it to the game series.

I don't have the power to do this as a standard mod for the SNES version of Pocky and Rocky only so i can't do it but a series mod can.

So after some sleep I've had some time to think about this. I'm going to check over every emu run again after work today and make sure they all fall in line with this too. The lack of rules on this leaderboard is concerning to say the least but it is a fixable problem.

You shouldn't be using any emulator that runs as smooth as his because the game shouldn't be running like that. Even unofficial emulators lag at various points in this game and it's not just Stage 4 either. Stage 6 is supposed to perform similarly.

I know this because GTNTG ran on Kega Fusionr and his game lagged like it was supposed to. Same with mine and I ran on Mega SG and it also lagged like it's supposed to.

If the game isn't lagging for Senis, that means he is using an emulator that really needs to be banned or at the very least some hard rules on its use such as with retroarch and the whole not messing with default settings.

Oh and the run should be removed but that goes without saying.

okay so I havn't gotten back to this yet but one of the big problems is that currently I have not found a way on this website to have a leaderboard be decided by points instead of time.

British Columbia, CanadaShadax2 years ago

I will properly frame count this when I have more time so I can find what exactly the final time is.

For now though, I've looked through the run and verified it as the new World Record. Congratulations!

Now that I've seen the run myself, the final boss being killed before the lightning attack phase takes away the need for the extra bomb on that fight. So the only use for that extra bomb you could get in the US version at this point is on the miniboss right before Black Mantle and I don't know how much that saves considering the waiting time for the drop in Stage 3.

As such, I don't think there is a need to separate the US and JP versions into their own leaderboards. At least not yet anyway. However I will always be open to reconsidering that stance down the road.

High scores do maintain the importance of not getting hit to obtain the most points so it holds a different requirement from the player and as such I actually am open to High score runs. I don't have time during the week really to implement that change though so it would have to wait until a weekend for me to get around to it.

It happens because you got caught while in the midst of rolling so it stores that extra speed when the monster lets go of you.

Unfortunately not useful in the run as being pushed back is a fairly big time loss in elemental earth even when put into that state.

I mean once you get the potion system down, it all comes down to learning the route and the infinite double jump exploit timing after that.

This run will probably be considered controversial due to the manner of which it was recorded however as the verifier myself, I allow it to stand as nothing seemed out of the ordinary otherwise and the run looks plenty beatable with simple injection of already known strats anyway.

That being said, I'm gonna advise that once covid restrictions are lifted that you should invest in a capture card so you can capture the game footage properly. I recommend using the GV-USB2 and local record with Amarec off it (not the most reliable program out there but it is our best option for locally recording runs).

I typically go for the first few parts of the neck trailing right behind the main head. Seems to work out the best for me anyway when trying to land hits but the movement of Vehelits is weird and the weak point might shift itself to be no longer lined up to get hit by the player without the player moving the character up or down.

I get that he wants to stay away from this thread for his own mental health but @BenInSweden is right...Jaypin has to face his critics eventually or he will never be ready to come back to Sonic.

It's why I've chosen a couple of days ago to just give him breathing space and keep my posts on this situation strictly here from now on and will simply wait for him here. He still will have to answer me on why he feels he has to know who ratted on him since that IS why he antagonized some of the Sonic mods to begin with. And he will have to answer me here in a public space where he cannot just erase the bad away willy nilly like that.

Until he does that much, that new video he posted will just be nothing more than damage control in my eyes and I will not give it the time of day.

"Another update related to this incident. It has just come to the sonic communities knowledge that there has been a jaypin copycat. Somebody has JUST been uploading/stealing runs, (literally yesterday and the day of today) of other peoples runs and submitted them to the leaderboards. We found at least 2 stolen runs. But as you can see, we can already see the precedent that this jaypin situation is setting. People know that there is no penalty if you cheat and they know they will get unbanned. It has already started."

@Zaxon96 Which is funny because that means they think being unbanned from SRC means they are unbanned from the Sonic series leaderboards.

I left a message too @Merl_ but I made sure to snip tool my comments to ensure he can't get rid of mine.

Anyway, I think at least I can understand that from the perspective of the SRC admins, this issue is strictly between Jaypin and the sonic community so they probably lifted it with that minset approach but otherwise I have no idea. Too bad I'm a part of sonic mod team as a moderator for 3D Blast so my involvement is unavoidable and thus whatever game I ran is brought into the equation with this matter.

As I said before I have a quota with cheaters. 1-2 years minimum suspension. Longer depending on the circumstances. Let them think about what they did and be a better person. In quite a few cases, this is enough but god damn you gotta earn that shit if you want that second chance imo. So keeping that in mind, let's look over this situation again and see if currently what Jaypin is doing warrants a second chance...

His excuse doesn't change the fact he didn't remove the stolen ILs when he claims to have started caring about his channel and speedrunning in general and now the links have been provided, proving these stolen ILs were submitted to SRC in 2019. Not 2015. So apparently he didn't care up to that point either (which means now on top of being caught stealing other people's ILs, he's been caught lying in his own 30 minute long video) and sorry but one does not simply forget about stuff like this from 2 years ago without a sense of guilt looming over them. It's pretty damn clear to me he had no intention of removing them until the mod team did it for him.

His issue with zurgriff and flyingfox is also dumb tbh. Zurgriff evidently did talk to him so from my perspective, Jaypin isn't mad at them for not speaking to him, he's mad because he wasn't spoken to sooner (as in prior to his ban) and there is only one reason why a cheater wants to be informed about the cheated runs before they are rejected and a ban is issued. That's right....to delete the evidence and claim they did no such thing, to the wider community and gain sympathy. Oldest trick in the book. No matter how you slice it, it's not a good look.

So yeah, whether or not you think Jaypin warrants a second chance or not in spite of recent events is up to you all but fact is Jaypin got caught red-handed stealing other people's runs, end of story. His unbanning was too soon and personally I think he should have at least honored the suspension/ban for the miniumum 2 years before appealing for re-instatement (like how prisoners do it with parole) at the very least and consider himself lucky he wasn't outed for something worse than this.

Whatever, I'm still blacklisting jaypin from any leaderboard I mod for regardless of any decision from other people or a 30 minute long video. Cheaters caught doping in the olympics get banned from participating in any competition for at least 1-2 years so I'm not inclined to start sympathizing with him until at least that much time has passed. The evidence was pretty clear in this case.

One collection I know of has the option to choose the JP version of the game. Typically all collections has the game running similarly to the Steam version so as far as I'm aware it's always been allowed.

Sorry for the late reply.

I had to make a proper reply to this because unfortunately a new issue turned up when I tried to play around with the IL options but I originally took down ILs because there was not enough activity to warrant their existence or at least that was my stance on them back then. In hindsight, this was probably not a justified decision but then I ran into that new issue so it still wound up being the correct one.

That other issue is that due to the fact that the Modernized version is more difficult as a game overall vs. the Original version, we would need separate ILs for both versions and unfortunately...SRC lacks the options for us to implement this without sacrificing the Easy and Hard difficulties so we run into this problem where one variable must be sacrificed for the other. It would require SRC staff changing things with ILs to remedy this particular problem unless we were to ditch the Easy difficulty entirely and permit only ILs done on Hard difficulty.

I hope that clears up some confusion. It's definitely something we can reconsider and re-instate but not without some changes happening first.

This should've been dealt with months ago but at least we got around to it finally.

The final thing for me to figure out now is whether or not I can work ILs back into the equation while still abiding by the rules of the different versions. Not sure if I can remedy that one but I'll see what I can do
