With regards to categories with Attack on Titan 2, I have made any% go to the very final level - Nameless Hero. The weird part is that the mission before this has it's own credit roll, but unlike Attack on Titan 1 there is no required optional grinding to access this level, so it made more sense to call the final level as any%. 100% would be a totally different thing with equipment and squad friendship levels. Plus it feels weird to have a category for say "Season 2%" that stops literally 5-10 minutes before the end of the final level.

I am considering adding a "Female Titan%" or "Season 1%" that would stop on the final hit of the same level of the end of Attack on Titan 1 - Soldier's Dance. My reasons being that this run would be a nicer entry point for those coming into the run as it would stop about an hour-an hour and a half earlier.

As far as when to start the timer, I currently feel it's best to start the timer when Start Game is hit. However there is a scripted part for the first 2-3 minutes before it goes into the character creator. This same scripted part actually appears again later in the run. If there is no way to make it faster and if people would prefer then I would be happy to consider the start point after entering the name of your character in the character creation.

As far as other categories go I was very hopeful for the story COOP that was announced before the game came out; however as it currently stands the only way to do coop is to randomly matchmake and there is no lobby for friends or a guaranteed way to get friends into the same game. If there is demand i'm more than happy to make categories for coop runs, but as of right now i'm not sure how it works out with this weird game design.

There are also other modes such as Inferno mode that could be made into a leaderboard and NG+ could certainly be achieved by using the NPC in the town to select previous levels. All Scouting Missions could be another.

Again let me know either here or contact me in a different method if you have thoughts or ideas about leaderboards we could add. I'm usually fairly open and easy to reach!

Tekkie if you're still interested in running we managed to figure out how to minimise the wait time on chapter 13 exponentially.

Once you've left the video site you need to go down to the explosion site where the van bomb a few chapters ago happens. Once you've done that, get up to Sega Hi-Tech and play Space Harrier. Quit immediately, play it again, quit immediately and then leave. You'll instantly get the pager notifcation, just like the one in chapter 5. It just 100% requires going to the explosion site and then doing 2 instances of Space Harrier. Neat little useful skip that!

My idea for saving then re-loading during the chapter 13 wait was unsuccessful sadly. I still feel like there will be a way to skip it like the earlier one, it's just figuring out how. Got some more ideas in mind, but i'm not too hopeful for those!

If I remember rightly when I was routing this I attempted to do the weapon merchant stuff, you do indeed have to send Fei Hu out on a "mandatory" mission. You can always just go straight back into the restaurant after the Slugger tutorial and get that sent off then come back later (there's one or two opportunities. When you go to get the Takoyaki for Makoto would make a good spot. Unfortunately even if you get Takoyaki that chapter you HAVE to go get it when the game requests it as Majima says he won't feed her cold food. Doesn't work like the booze or the confectionary gift box as it's a key item sadly! But this would be a good time to carry on and get some stuff!)

The nice thing with the wait in Chapter 13 for Kiryu in Sotenbori is that I believe you can use the Dragon and Tiger, you just can't send out Agents (which...If you did all you needed too at that point anyway what would be the point so that's good) Annoyingly you CANNOT do Karaoke, i've tried multiple times as I wanted to make up for cutting it out twice with Nishiki but alas the game just says nope! Your post has given me a very curious idea though. Go and visit the explosion site, save the game at the phone at Shofukucho South then load that save and see if it has an effect. I'll go and check this tomorrow when I get time and i'm not sure if going to the explosion site is necessary or not, but I have the bizarrest feeling that it might be.

If I ever do all substories (and I get the feeling that at some point I will) I think routing in the Dragon and Tiger stuff will make it necessary for quick Amon fights. Those count as substories so they gotta be done! The routing for that would be fascinating. You could send agents off between substories and come back. My only fear is that slight RNG factor so...Maybe saving outside the Dragon and Tiger would come into effect to load if you don't get gun blueprints, but again that would really skew the IGT. Either way i'm not doing all substories soon, but the weapon shop would 100% be something i'd factor into that run. The routing will be insane though trying to figure out the quickest ways to end the substories, the order to do them (considering some don't appear till some chapters, some don't appear till you've done others, some will take you to a different part of the map, some will require prebought items like the battery for the bag phone etc etc) would be monumentus but...It's kinda exciting

One thing i'm very curious about with IGT - the reason IGT wasn't used for the previous Yakuza's was because it actually reset back to what it was before if you ever died in say a boss or one of the longish dungeon bits. Of course this being a different engine (checkpoints as well) etc etc might make it a lot more reliable, but it's probably something that should be tested...If the unfortunate occurs and we can't use IGT then we'll have to have something that says if we're using ps4/pro/hdd/ssd (For reference i'm on bog standard ps4 with the stock hdd so my load times are probably the slowest, obviously I'm hoping the IGT is consistent!!)

Yeah as far as Kiryu fights go, small enclosed space with weapons? Beast. Mobs? Usually Beast with exceptions of course. I feel like it's more about adapting on the fly, but there are certain fights that are better with one style than the other (breaker for Majima's Nishikiyama fight as hello Serena you have a lot of lovely furnature to break his guard!) The bringing weapons in might be a good idea. I definitely utilise some pistols/shotguns that enemies have in certain segments, but how much of the weapon crafter RNG do we need to go through? That's my only worry. Of course quick time saves can offset that.

And that's what excites me about this run. Different routes move and style wise, weapons etc. There's so many different variations that could really mix things up. It's exciting!

As far as actual strats go, I think the big thing we could go into is strategising for bosses with regards to upgrade path etc. Right now my big strat is to make sure I get Power Surge 2 in every branch, whilst with Majima you've got the two extra attack nodes down the bottom of one of his paths (Breaker?) which are also good. Mostly my strats have been breaker for most battles (anything in a small enclosed space with lots of furnature to break enemies blocks etc etc) and Slugger for others (the stealth Majima sections where you need to do fights for example it's easy to do a square square triangle combo to do just enough to take out the enemies, bar larger ones, provided you've got the damage upgrades up till that point)

Initially I wanted to factor in Shakedown to get quick money, but the amount you get with the later chapters just makes it not worth it when Shakedown takes a couple of minutes. Maybe it'd be worth making him into a trust fund, but only if you went that route with the Shrine CP too and at that point you're just running out of stamina fast.

As far as speedtech goes I found that with Kiryu's first waiting around in chapter 5 (for the office to be cleaned up) by far the quickest way to speed that up is to go to Club Sega (i choose the one on Nakamachi as it feels closer, so i'm not sure if the one in Theater Avenue will also do the same) jump into Out Run and quit immediately as the mini game starts. As soon as you leave the Club Sega you'll get the pager that the office has been fully cleaned. Unfortunately i'm struggling to find a similar skip for his second waiting around segment in Chapter 13. I attempted the same thing (going to the explosion site, then going to the club sega and jumping onto Space Harrier and quitting) but unfortunately that didn't work.

As far as other stuff goes, I attempt to buy the alcohol for the Hobo's in the most optimal fashion. During Chapter 1 you need to buy the Malt and Shochu on Tenkaichi Street as if you do it in Chapter 2 you'll get some extra dialogue because of the friendship with the seller (she's still there in chapter 1, but substories don't trigger till chapter 2) and in Chapter 2 as soon as you come back to Kamurocho from home for the first time pick up the Sake from the shop infront of you. This same shop sells the Confection Gift Box that you need for chapter 5 so it's important you pick it up here at the same time. Then when you have to go to the hobos taxi down to Pink Street Entrance, pick up the Scotch Whiskey from the Poppo then waltz next door to Don Quijote and pick up the Champagne (doesn't matter which version, there's no extra dialogue.) then you can just go straight to the Hobos and hand over the alcohol immediately.

The thing that annoys me the most is that you can't skip either business for Kiryu or Majima. They are lengthy bits that unfortunatly there's no way to speed up. Heck for Majima's cabaret it's easiest to just wait 3 minutes because if you interact with it you lose time each time you do and the money return is so minimal that it really doesn't make sense to go ahead with it.

Don't forget to skip the "mandatory" Kareoke segments with Nishiki by skipping them as they begin with the touchpad.

Mmm. I think these categories and difficulties are good. All Substories could work and interests me, but it would be a lot of work. It'd be a lot more palletable than say 100% which...is a bit on the silly side and I highly doubt anyone will ever do it. I might do routing and a All Substories run eventually, but that won't be anytime soon. I think for any% there's places that can be improved. One of the big ones i'm looking at is the waiting around in Sotenbori with Kiryu. Considering you can do his first one quickly by quitting out of Outrun in the Club Sega it makes me hopeful there's something that'll make it faster for the second one, but so far i've found nothing.

Yo!

Just curious, can we get different difficulty categories? Planning on doing my first run tonight and wanted to do normal for a bit of extra challenge, but obviously it'll be slower than easy. I must admit i'm also guilty of doing this with Dead Souls (although the fast we get through Dead Souls the better!) so I understand if we just stick to easy.

Also as a quick question, can we get a NG+ category as well? I'm definitely gonna do a few runs of it to see how much quicker it goes. It's a shame it doesn't follow Dead Souls which skips a few tutorials sadly

EnglandFroob6 years ago

Feel free to let me know if you want other categories or modifications to existing categories.

I haven't done seperate difficulties as I imagine most people will run easy as it's faster than the others; however I'm more than willing to split up the categories into difficulties if people want some more options/diversity.

If anyone is interested in some other potentially fun runs such as All Substories or 100% then let me know and we'll get that set up too.

EnglandFroob7 years ago

I think if the rules were stated well then this could be a great idea. Obviously you could take any gear in at any point (which would be made clear in the rules, cause otherwise it'd be a nightmare to have an insane amount of different regulations like "just after any%" or something silly) and I guess True Attack could be split into two if need be (Any%, so just after Female/Colossal and NG+ with any gear and equipment?) but it'd be interesting to have them for sure. I wouldn't be able to participate for a while because my pc keeps hard freezing and the psu sounds like it's going to explode after a short period of playing, but I would be interested when I can sort all this crap out (and especially before AoT 2 of course!)

We don't have mods at the moment (Sora is active though and verifys runs very fast!) so i'm not quite sure how we'd go about this, but i'd certainly be down for it. We did have another mod as well but they seem to have deleted their account unfortunately.

EnglandFroob7 years ago

Coming from base PS4 (HDD, not pro) my PC loaded a lot faster than the ps4 version. I want to hopefully test the game soon on a Ps4 PRO with an ssd, but if you're base ps4 it's PC all the way.

Note that the PC version can be a little crash-y at times. There's like...Two points where I expect it. But they don't happen very often. Both console and PC share the same speedtech, even softlocks. Nothing exclusive to one or the other.

Small Titanfall 2 update: Despite what I said last time the community has actually found a load of new skips/optimisations that has lead to people being able to shave huge chunks of time, including a new really impressive set of skips on the longest level in the game (As shown here https://streamable.com/8q6cp ). My real time PB has gone down to a 1:37:01 and I should easily be able to make that a 1:36, if not a bit shorter. Multiple runs since have ended at +2 seconds, +20 seconds and even a flat 0.0, so the new skips and tricks are consistant and reasonable to pull off.

For Titanfall 2 i've managed to shave about 4 minutes+ off of my pb and am now sat at 1:39:59 (real time.) Despite that I've done numerous runs since all landing in the range of between a 1:40-1:43 leading me to lower my time estimate from a 1:55 to a 1:50. I'm still looking to improve, but I will probably hold at a 1:50 estimate for the attempt of an RNG jump or two.

A small thing for Attack on Titan - kirkq updated our leaderboard name to be the English name and not just the Japanese one so it can now be easily found on the site. Estimate remains the same and will probably stay the same despite finding that some conversations during levels can be skipped and figuring out a method to pull off a late game damage glitch.

Yeah I didn't either! That grab was found by PX, it's a nice time save. There's a ridiculously weird glitch where I managed to make her stand up immediately when she goes down. It's happend twice and do not ask me how to do it because I really do not know! My only thought is that all her body parts (arms and napes) were destroyed when or as I knocked her down. Those seem to be the only two similarities. But I can't replicate it so...If you ever find out how you'll forever have my thanks!!

EnglandFroob7 years ago

Not 100% sure to be honest, we just followed the rule lol! Much in the same way that I wouldn't mind if we changed up Colossal Titan% just because doing that from a fresh save was....Well to put it bluntly, hell. Although that was likely me just doing a run and submitting it as no one else had.

Welcome to running the game by the way! If you have any questions about it feel free to hit me up. The Titan quick kill stuff were found by General Beatrix, but me and PX have been refining it for a while. We stopped running for a period whilst busy with life/other stuff, but i'll be coming back to it soon.

EnglandFroob8 years ago

All versions of the same game go into the same leaderboard, since no platform or region specific glitches or differences have been found there is no real reason at the moment to split the leaderboard and you are welcome to submit your run on the main leaderboard until any considerable platform or region specific differences are discovered

I've finally done as promised and have routed out Colossal Titan%. It is very doable on NG following on from a Female Titan% run. Extra length is likely 1:30, factoring load times(shorter for pc?) I'll do a proper run of it soon.

http://pastebin.com/vZJ4j1A3

If you have any questions feel free to ask, but i've tried to lay it out with some notes at the start. I used Levi (mostly for Wings of Freedom for Colossal Titan himself) but other characters might be more optimal. I haven't attempted to route the story missions, but most of them only require one or two or the Beast Titans body parts to finish the mission, rather than killing it outright like other titans in the game

EnglandFroob8 years ago

I was trying to wrack my brain on how this would be doable earlier while playing.

The trouble is if you do it from a ng file the grind that comes after the first set of credits is pretty huge (like...51%+ in each of the survey areas? Definitely higher than 50) and the trouble with having a save already is there could be differences with people's equipment etc. But it still feels like the easier way being able to select it from the list?

If you want, I can try and do a basic run for it when i've done a any% Female Titan run, see how long it'll take? I assume a few hours either way.

One last question, and this is probably a horrific one, would a True Attack mode leaderboard (the mode unlocked after colossal) work at all? I assume not or maybe a misc category?
