[big]__Pokemon Gen 3 Starter Manip[/big]__
http://forums.pokemonspeedruns.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=499
Author: MKDasher
This program allows you to rng manipulate your mudkip, allowing you to narrow down mudkips based on nature and ivs, and gives you the frame+time you need to select the Mudkip to get the one you're aiming for. A more in depth guide on how to manipulate your starter will be done for the next update, but for now use this video:
[big]Battle Information Spreadsheet[/big]
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YBll3FbJfaIMJ2CtV72kXfYTlF0qRDxuWHHKhUJ76Uo/edit?usp=sharing
A spreadsheet of information on every battle you can take part in in a speedrun.
[big]"The internal battery has died." message[/big]
The message "The internal battery has died. The game can be played. However clock based events will no longer occur." may appear when you load the game. It is actually advantageous to have this message, as it eliminates random phone calls from registered trainers. Old carts will likely have this warning, and the emulator vba naturally has this warning.
[big]Notation and Terminology[/big]
If "@[Item Name]" follows after a pokemon, it means it is holding an item that you should be aware of. Not all of the items that each Pokemon are holding are written here, just the ones that are significant to the route. For each Spinner, the notes will refer to one of two types of manipulation; Bag-manip and Running-manip. See [Video not yet done] for an explanation of Bag-manip, and [Video not yet done] for an explanation on Running-manip.
[section=3. Maps]
[big][big]Most of the maps in this section require updating, as newer strats have altered most of the games movement paths significantly. This will be done in the next update![/big][/big]

[section=4. The Route] [big]New Game[/big]
[small]Before starting attempts, check your username. If it is "RXFADEZ" you might as well reset now.[/small]
Before starting a new game, set your options as;
- Text Speed - Fast
- Battle Scene - Off
- Battle Style - Set
Other options can be set as you please.
Start a new game, choose Girl ,and name your character a single character name. If you are using the Gen 3 Starter Manip program, start your timer as you hit A on the name select screen (before the Yes/No box).
[big]Littleroot Town[/big]
The time you set the clock to doesn't matter, so leave it as default. The PC in your room has a Potion stored, which should be collected to avoid dieing in the first two fights, however you can ignore it if the Mudkip frame you are aiming for is quite early.
Once the conversations with Mom are done, head towards Brendan's house. Enter, talk to Brendan's Mum, and head upstairs. As soon as you enter the room, leave again and go to walk out the house. Brendan will appear and talk to you. Once he's done, exit the house and head north to Route 101 to meet Prof. Birch.
[big]Route 101[/big]
Choose Mudkip after looking in the bag, and then the Zigzagoon fight will begin.
[big]Wild Encounter[/big]
Zigzagoon (Lvl.2): Tackle until it faints.
[big]Littleroot Town[/big]
In the conversation with Prof. Birch, nickname your Mudkip a one character name. Say "Yes" to seeing Brendan, and exit the lab. From here, head north, through Route 101 and Oldale Town into Route 103. Run from any encounters.
[big]Route 103[/big]
Speak to Brendan to start the first Rival fight.
Brendan 1
Treecko (Lvl.5): Tackle x4 (Potion if necessary to avoid fainting)
Take note of Mudkip's health at the end of the fight, you will need to Potion before the next battle if your health is below;
- 7 always
- 9 with bad Def
- 10 with 14 Atk
- 13 with 14 Atk and bad Def
After the Brendan fight return south to Prof. Birch's lab.
[big]Littleroot Town[/big]
After receiving the Pokedex and Pokeballs, exit the lab and talk to Mum (who is standing outside the house). Don't walk past her, as she will then walk to you, which wastes time. From here on run wherever you can.
Head north to Oldale Town, then west at Oldale to Route 102.
From here until Petalburg City, consider fainting encounters to get an extra 17/24/29/35 exp. 17 gives you Lvl.14 for Roxanne's Nosepass, 29 gives you Lvl. 9 after the Petalburg Woods Aqua Grunt, allowing you to battle the other Youngster in Rustboro Gym first, and 35 gives you Lvl. 8 for the Petalburg Woods Aqua Grunt, making the battle safer. Each exp threshold also has the bonuses of the thresholds below it.
[big]Route 102[/big]
Head west and battle the first Youngster.
Youngster Calvin
Poochyena (Lvl.5): Tackle x3, Mud Slap
Continue west, avoiding all the other trainers by running through the grass, running from encounters when necessary.
[big]Petalburg City[/big]
Head to the Mart.
[big]Shopping Trip 1[/big]
- 3 Potion
- 3 Repels
- 0-1 X Attack (Purchase 1 X Attack if you got 35 extra exp, and have x/23+/10-22 IV Atk)
After the Mart, head to the gym and go through the Wally catching tutorial.
Next, head west towards Route 104. Scott will stop you and talk to you, afterwards head into Route 104.
[big]Route 104[/big]
From entering, head south on to the beach, then west, then north around Mr.Briney's house. Head towards the second patch of grass. Stop a tile before the grass and open the menu:
Menu (in the following order):
- Potion Mudkip (if below 19HP)
- Repel
- Attach an Oran berry to Mudkip
Run through the grass, behind the trainer, and enter Petalburg Woods.
[big]Petalburg Woods[/big]
Running-manip the first Bug Catcher, then head around until you encounter the Devon Researcher, and battle the Aqua Grunt.
Team Aqua Grunt
Poochyena (Lvl.9): Tackle x5
Running-manip the next Bug Catcher and then head north out of Petalburg Woods to the other side of Route 104.
[big]Route 104[/big]
Head east and then north across the bridge, towards Rustboro City, avoiding the remaining trainers (the double battle on the bridge won't activate with only one Pokemon in your party). Pick up the Leppa berries after the bridge, to the east, if your Sp.Atk is a/0-19/0-4, then head into Rustboro City.
[big]Rustboro City[/big]
Head north, and straight into Rustboro Gym.
[big]Rustboro Gym[/big]
If necessary, Potion Mudkip and attach an Oran berry before fighting Youngster Josh (the southern-most youngster). If you got 29+ extra exp, then battle Youngster Tommy first instead (Mud Slap his first Geodude, Water Gun the second).
Youngster Josh
Geodude (Lvl.10): Mud Slap until it faints
Mudkip will level up to Lvl.10, and learn Water Gun.
Next, fight the other Youngster.
Youngster Tommy
Before selecting the first Water Gun in this battle, switch Water Gun (Slot 4) with Tackle (Slot 1). The inputs are: Right, Down, Select, Select, A. They can be inputted as fast as possible, as there is no delay between them.
Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun
Finally, battle the Hiker.
Hiker
Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun
Afterwards, head towards Roxanne. Stop 3 tiles before her, and open your Menu. Potion Mudkip to full health, and equip an Oran Berry if its Spe is x/20+/13+
[big]Leader Roxanne[/big]
Geodude (Lvl.12): Water Gun Geodude (Lvl.12): Water Gun Nosepass (Lvl.15)@Oran Berry: Water Gun until dead. Notes on the Nosepass: If your speed is above 18 here, Nosepass will Rock Tomb initially, to lower your speed. If you are at a HP level that a Rock Tomb will kill (around 18 hp, though this can vary with your defense stat) it will use Rock Tomb, so potion at these HP levels.
After beating Roxanne and collecting the Rock Tomb TM, exit the Gym and head west. A cutscene will activate with an Aqua Grunt, afterwards head north and then east at the T-junction afterwards. The Devon Researcher will talk to you when you approach him. When he's finished, head east into Route 116.
[big]Route 116[/big]
Take the southern path, running through the grass, running-maniping Bug Catcher Jose. Menu-manip Karen, and then head east to battle Hiker Clark (the southern most Hiker).
Note: If your Mudkip hits Lvl.16 at any point from now until Slateport, it will evolve and try to learn Mudshot. Replace Mud Slap with Mudshot.
Hiker Clark
Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun
Bag-manip the Youngster on the first pass, using a Repel in the menu, then running-manip him on the second, to battle Hiker Devan.
Hiker Devan
Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun Geodude (Lvl.8): Water Gun
Afterwards, head towards the entrance of Rusturf tunnel. Mr. Briney will talk to you, once he's done enter the tunnel.
[big]Rusturf Tunnel[/big]
Head east until you run into an Aqua Grunt, then battle him.
Team Aqua Grunt
Poochyena (Lvl. 12): Water Gun x1-2
After talking to Mr. Briney again, head back out to Route 116, and back west towards Rustboro, bag-manipping Karen once again. Speak to the Devon Researcher to the west, who will lead you into Devon Corp.
[big]Rustboro City[/big]
After talking to Mr. Stone, you will get the PokeNav and your Pokemon will be fully healed. Head out of Devon Corp. and a researcher will talk to you. Complete the Match Call tutorial and then head south to the Mart.
[big]Shopping Trip 2[/big]
- SELL: TM 39 Rock Tomb, 5 Pokeballs (only if you bought the X Attack in Petalburg earlier)
- 3 Super Potions
- 3 X Attacks
- 2 X Speeds
- 5 Repels
Exit the Mart, and head south out to Route 104. Your Rival will stop you, say No to their battle request and head into Route 104.
[big]Route 104[/big]
Avoid all the trainers you didn't battle on the way up, head through Petalburg Woods to the other side of Route 104. Run behind the trainer through the grass. If you encounter a Wingull or Tailow, use both your Great Balls to attempt to catch it. If you haven't gotten at least an extra 24 exp at this point, faint encounters until you have. Afterwards head into Briney's house, and talk to him to sail to Dewford Town.
[big]Dewford Town[/big]
On arrival, enter the PokeCentre to set a deathspot for later (don't use the centre, just enter then exit immediately). Head north to Granite Cave, avoiding both Fishermen here.
[big]Granite Cave[/big]
Repel upon entering Granite cave, and head west. Pick up the Escape Rope before the first ladder, then navigate the rest of the cave to Steven. Talk to Steven (from the side, not from above, so that he takes less steps to walk out), and get the Steel Wing TM. Escape rope out once he leaves. Go talk to Mr. Briney again and select Slateport.
[big]Route 109[/big]
Upon exiting the ship, head east, and talk to the tuber girl on the right to receive Soft Sand. Head north into Slateport, avoiding the trainers on the beach.
[big]Slateport City[/big]
Head north and enter the Shipyard. Talk to Dock who tells you to find Capt. Stern in the Oceanic Museum. Exit and head north to the Museum.
[big]Oceanic Museum[/big]
Pay for the entry (a whole 50 pokedollars) and head upstairs. Equip the Soft Sand to Marshtomp here, unless you have Atk IVs x/x/24+. Talk to Capt. Stern to initiate the two Aqua Grunt fights.

Brendan 2
Slugma (Lvl.18): X Speed, X Attack x2, Mud Shot (Heal to above 45hp before you Mud Shot, and Full Heal a burn. Don't Full Heal Sleep, just use Mud Shot until Marshtomp wakes up. If Marshtomp has x/x/29+ Atk, and Slugma doesn't Yawn turn 1 or 2, skip the 2nd X Attack) Grovyle (Lvl.20): Mud Shot x2 Wingull (Lvl.18): Tackle
After Brendan leaves, head north and then west, and battle Triathlete Alyssa.
[big]Triathlete Alyssa[/big]

After the battle, press the button to the left of the youngster, and then head up to Wattson.

[big]Route 111[/big]
Line yourself up with the column of tiles immediately to the left of Cooltrainer Wilson. Bike down until he is off your screen, and immediately bike up and past him, maintaining your speed. This unloads the spinner, and because you are traveling as fast as possible he doesn't have time to spin on you between reloading and you going past him. [big]Route 116[/big]
If you didn't Super Repel on Route 115, you will need to do so in this route, when the active one wears off. Head east, using run-into-bike manip to pass Karen, bag-manip to pass the Youngester on the first pass and run-into-bike manip on the second pass. Enter Rusturf Tunnel.
