Thought it would be a good idea to warn everyone about RE1 in general. Either patch you use, remember Bio1 is not a perfectly stable game, even with patching. We can not guarantee either patch to perform as intended at all times. Runs will still be rejected upon any abnormality we see unfit for verification. This will be the first time REbirth has been played publicly by active RE1 speedrunners and we don't know what might happen on other people's PCs. The most important thing is to preserve the legitimacy and accuracy of the runs on our boards. We appologize ahead of time if any rejections occur based on inaccuracy, bugs, dropped video, or any form of abnormal gameplay.
Hi Clix,
Apologies if this is a stupid question and also for potentially reviving a dead thread but this seems the best place to ask. Is there currently a way to get autosplitters working with the REbirth patch?
Ive been wanting to get into running the first to RE's but as a gamepad player the REBirth patch is pretty essential to my setup, at the moment i cant seem to get any of the splitters around to work with it for either RE1 or RE2.
Again, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, im completely new to the site
The setup should be exactly the same as for the previous patch. Have you seen StevenMayte's guide on setting up the autosplitter? I don't know about the RE2 REbirth patch, but this tutorial is made for RE2 (but same procedure for RE1)
This guide should work fine ^^^ IMPORTANT - run everything as administrator. RE2 REbirth patch isn't allowed for RE2 runs since it locks the game at the wrong frame rate so don't use it for speedrunning.
Thank you to both of you for your really quick response. I think changing to running as admin was the fix. I also had to figure that i had to start the first split myself during the intro so that it would snag into the game time counter.
Looking forward to my first run, not aiming to be challenging the big boys, first ever speedrun of any game ever but im aiming for a sub 50 minute run as a baseline to practice from. My last test run ended at black tiger due to auto-aim confusion at 40 minutes so im feeling reasonably confident in my own very amateur sort of way :P
It's a good goal to start with! Just make sure you start the splits before that intro hallway "where's Chris/Barry?" scene starts :D (I usually start them on the screen with the IDs to pick the character).
Good idea, i think i started mine just before i started the recording for the run, on the main menu. From what i could gather during my testing of the autosplit it seemed to work either way though curiously it made the 0.00 start on red if i did it later.
In either event, for a first ever completed run i hit 50:35. Struggling with the dodge for Yawn 1; that cost me a LOT of time. Probably worth doing a save just before and doing some level running of that one. I also got thoroughly and roughly rogered by the dogs in the courtyard trying to pick up herbs. Ironically i ended up getting so badly smacked about by them that i finished up having used 2 herbs on the same health as before i started!
Its weird how much more nervous one is when the recording is on, one save room i couldnt even control the menu and ended up blowing around 15 seconds there, but despite all of that, that was a LOT of fun! :D
I applied the REbirth patch and have graphical issues which are solved using dgVoodoo - as explained on Rebirth website - but I get random crashes throughout the game. Gemini did say this is a possibility, so it seems I have no way around this. I was wondering if I have any other options? An alternative patch that was used pre-REbirth perhaps?
*Edit: Never mind - I have dug out an old laptop and it seems to be working better on that.
I only just tried this Gem, changing from Radeon 6800 to Virtual , and tested a few load points where it usually crashes and works fine. Will do a full run shortly / tonight and let you know. Thanks dude
It has come to our attention that the current version of Duckstation (v0.1-7675) runs considerably slower than earlier versions. Until we figure out what can be done to either get the current version up to speed with the other times on the board we suggest that runners use v0.1-7294, which can be fo
