Reasoning behind the choice was out of people doing it by mistake / unintentionally. You attack and then instantly menu to reload or heal, you've pause cancelled without actually intending to.
It is a glitch, there is no mistaking that. But it creates a situation where accepting/rejecting runs based on the above scenario is a problem.
Pause cancel is used in different ways. We consider it's strength depending on how it is used. Using it to cancel an animation is very minor. Using it to break a cutscene is major. Having it all 1 way is what caused the problems in the first place. Too black and white like that. Most of us feel that it needs to be looked at in perspective of how it is being used. Nobody is going to accidentally glitch a cutscene but people will accidentally use it for a reload or a heal. All in reasonable perspective. Remember, there is no speedrun bible that states this should be this and that should be that. Every game's communities should decide based on what is best for that specific game.
here is my view on this personally i think it should be left as it is most of us have gotten used to these current rules and if it is changed again isnt that just going to cause a bit of confusion to other runners and maybe new runners ? i think if anything it should be "glitched" which would include all major glitches currently found in this game. then "glitchless" will be left exactly as it is. now for the minor glitches why not have a sub category under glitched called minor or whatever and any minor glitches used within a run can be placed there. That way it would be more simplified and cleaner and no foul play or whatever you want to call it cheating blah blah can be called but this is my view on this topic.
Most runners POV is that pause cancel is used for doing serum skip etc. Even if it's true, those major skip are forbidden, the minor stuff is when pause cancel is used during reloading, hit, heal kinda stuff.
Now my POV : Pause cancel is not used for serum skip (for exemple). I don't see the commun point between press start when you trigger a cutscene and press start for skip Jill's animation except the fact that we go into the inventory ...
The simple fact that people are debating about what's a glitch or not ect prove that we cannot use anymore glitched/glitchless name. As Clix said, we cannot simply say it's black or white.
About doing a 3rd sub category, i m totally against that :
- There's already too much categories
- The difference between "Minor glitch" and "Glitchless" gonna be ridiculous ( 5-20 secs max )
- People here all know what we are talking about, it's not confusing at all. For future runners, all they have to do is watch a major glitch list forbidden for "No Major Glitch" where's is the difficulty ?
- Glitches debates, split will not solve the question of "what's a glitch or not"
- Friendly competition. Having 1515145 categories is not constructive. It's more free WR stuff to be honest. There s already enough categories for that.
Again it's my POV, not absolute truth :) Ty for reading
i agree with your points but i personally think it should be left as it is if you want to use a glitch put it in the glitched section ( Obviously) but even if we create a new category its not technically a free world record because that category would be optimised as soon as but it was just an idea. however i appreciate your feedback nonetheless however in the glitched section would it not be easier to put minor and major categories just a question not an idea
If we talk only about speedrundotcom leaderboard stuff :
If we split glitched into Major/Minor, we have to add an entire subcategories. If we replace glitched/glitchless by Major Glitch / No Major Glitch, all we have to do is change subcategories name Kappa ez pz
Now that people saw the thread and voted (cause an entire week is enough), i m happy to talk about it with you and all runners ;)
The change gonna be done tomorrow ^^ if something look wrong after, don t hesitate to feedback ( rules etc )
what about glitchless any% is to be renamed as regular any% and glitched is just glitched any% Kappa
Updated guide http://www.speedrun.com/re1/guide/qzd0g ( I will add some information but the list is there an official )
I've also deleted all guides related to Major glitches to make guide section cleaner
It has come to our attention that the current version of Duckstation (v0.1-7675) runs considerably slower than earlier versions. Until we figure out what can be done to either get the current version up to speed with the other times on the board we suggest that runners use v0.1-7294, which can be fo
