Hello everybody, I know it’s been a while since any major official statement from the mod team so I wanted to write up this post as a small update as well as a means of addressing a few issues.
First of all, most discussion now takes place on our speedrun discord instead of these forums. You can find the link in the left sidebar. I would heavily recommend joining it to be constantly up to date, as only major/important discussions get posted in the forums.
Over the past few months, the team was expanded by bringing in multiple people as run verifiers to avoid a backlog of unverified runs. While this has been a great success, we are still looking for anyone else who would be interested in joining. If you feel that you can adequately fill the spot, please send me a direct message in discord.
Another important topic that needs discussing is 50 eliminations. Recently we added a 2.0 version of some categories since a series of patches caused both tutorial and 50 eliminations to undergo major changes. Unlike the Tutorial speedrun, however, the popularity of 50 eliminations has been in heavy decline. As a mod team we discussed two possible solutions and would like to hear your feedback. In the first scenario, 50 eliminations stays as is, and is moved to the category extension board (more about that board below) allowing room to open up for new categories. In the second, 50 elims 2.0 is reworked and removes allowing settings to change. However when the category was first created the majority had asked to allow changing settings, so this second option would need large backing before passing. Regardless, something will be done. If you want to share your thoughts, or maybe have another proposal, feel free to do so.
Finally, the category extension board. Historically, when a new category has been requested I have always asked for a run of it before adding it in. The one time I did not was Lucio Rollouts due to the overwhelming support the category received, and look where it ended up. Moving on with the CE board, Hammond% will be added but Lucio Rollouts will be reconsidered if no run is submitted soon. Furthermore, we are looking into a way to incorporate legacy runs into the extension board as a means to clean up the main board (more information will come once the 50 elims discussion has finished).
Anyway, that pretty much sums up everything. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and we would appreciate your thoughts on the 50 elims topic.
Sorry for the delay, categories have been made.
His run is under PC not console. https://imgur.com/a/WmtSPLz
I'll accept this if you do a run, but just because of the fact that you have to pay money to even do a run it will be a misc category. So yeah, if you do the run feel free to post it and I'll add it in.
To prevent this board from being flooded with empty categories the only pre-requisite for requesting a category is to have done a run of it (offer a video example of what it would look like).
Happy to announce that a Category Extension Board has finally been approved. That means that most categories people want can now be implemented even if they are slightly arbitrary!
Basically, Iif you have any new category suggestions/requests please post them over on the category extensions forum.
Going to post a major forum post like right now, so you may want to read up on that.
This is currently not a feature on srcom. RT and IGT are used universally for the whole board. That means that if I was to change it to IGT then that would affect Full-game categories, which currently take priority over ILs. Sorry.
currently out of town/can't rally check runs
sorry for delay, maybe another mod can do it until I'm back
Thanks dude, the 11.250 was proof to me to keep trying. However, I doubt that I will be able to easily recreate it, especially multiple times a run. Generally, competition is good motivation. I am hoping to push another phase 4 world record but we'll see. Also glad that there is a consistent runner besides me.
Generally, you are supposed to start your hero from "scratch". So no ult charged or having placed anything beforehand.
Default time is the same for normal LB and IL so I can't do that since it would mess up normal LBs. That's why I contacted an srcom mod, awaiting a response.
It should be fixed automatically for now if yo submit Real time as well. Sadly since main boards run on RT level boards are forced to as well, going to try and contact an srcom mod to resolve this.
I just want to share my opinion real quick on this matter. First up I really appreciate Timmi standing up and sharing these issues with the community. I feel like these issues have been mostly known but personally I felt alone in my thinking and didn't see it as a worthy argument.
I fully agree with the idea of having leaderboard specific mods and to not add more unnecessary text to this page I support what jel stated in terms of dividing the mods based on game types. I feel this in turn would lead to a much cleaner distinction and have mods specialized at what they need to do. At the same time though I understand Draz's concerns and I think this should be looked into.
A major topic that people have been sharing thoughts on is the amount of mods, not their separation. I find it impractical to set a predetermined flat amount of mods for all games instead of just including as many mods as necessary. KH2 does not need the same amount of mods as JP Days or PSP BbS and I think in regards to a predetermined amount it would be best to let community decide how many, and who, the mods should be for each game (of course people like Sonic can supermod entire series).
Specifically towards handhelds now, this is going to be much more opinion based, I think situation should end up being something like Draz being supermoded for them as well as Jel being mod of them and then like maybe have people like DJ mod the JP BbS boards and me the normal one(?). I don't really know right now and this is prob not the place to discuss more than this. I just think Draz is a pretty good mod for handhelds and has done a fantastic job up to now with any issue that has been presented so I kinda wanted to quickly address that since the last few posts have been leaning more on the handheld side.
Overall, I believe it is important to take actions that will benefit the community and its growth. If that means a sense of mod separation to have individualized mods that will help each game flourish, then that should be the way we go.
Edit: For some reason my post looks weird after I published it. No idea what is going on and if this is just on my end.
Edit 2: I understand why Draz does not want the separation and I acknowledge that as a legit problem. But also a problem for 3 games shouldn't affect whole series.
Will work on adding this asap. Kind of busy so expect it within a day or two.
