I'm extremely new to resident evil games, but if I may, I'll just throw my opinion on anyway. As the official Resident Evil 4 New Game Easy, Segmented in one segment, RTA, 60/30FPS Ultimate HD World Record holder, I'd like to think that something is going wrong when I can say what I just said and it be true. I can see where carcinogen is coming from in wanting to change the boards to merge categories and all that jazz, because there being around 40 world records for one game goes a bit beyond the meaning of absurd. I also see where he is coming from when he says that a World Record should have video proof. As a new runner, finding which run is the best run, and which is a run I wanted to learn from took a healthy amount of effort (I eventually just watched a few different ones and used JTB's nice guide on Pro (even though I'm not running Pro, but I digress)), and if a world record does not have a video, it definitely does cause a problem for a new runner, and it most certainly does display a bias towards "oldbois". I have no freaking clue why he thinks segmented runs are "guides", that doesn't make any sense to me, but the rest of his points make sense. However, who am I? I'm just some fat nerd on the internet that doesn't really run the game seriously. Same with Carcinogen. Just because you run a game in a series doesn't mean you should be the king of the whole series. Carcinogen may be relevant in RE1-3, but in 4 or 5, I don't think he should be in any position of power. The power position, should obviously, go to the most prolific and serious runners of the game. You should set up the board however you see fit, and shouldn't have to deal with someone whose opinion doesn't matter butting in and changing all the rules. This has happened in the past with my games in the mega man x series. People who run the games on Super Nintendo tried to overhaul all the games on Playstation even though they never played or even like them. It's absolutely ridiculous that it would even be possible for that to happen in the first place. As for removing your times from the speedrun.com board, I understand not wanting to be affiliated with them, trust me, but as Noname as said, the more accurate a board is, the better it is for everyone. Even if the google document is the main board among the active community, the speedrun.com board should at least show most of the runs on there so that if someone wanted to look up the record, they could with some ease, and not have to dig through people's info sections looking for some spreadsheet. This was really long-winded and mostly irrelevant since my opinion doesn't matter at all, but I thought I'd just toss my hat into the ring, since I'd like to be more involved with RE4 and 5 speed running since I really like the games and plan on getting good. Have a nice day, buds!
I understand not wanting to be affiliated with RE4 boards, but I don't see why you wouldn't want the times up there anyway.
To add: The reason I requested X5 is due to the fact that the only moderator does not use the website, and thus, could not verify a time if one is submitted.
Seems pretty silly to remove someone's times just because of a personal dispute.
I understand why, and agree to its usage, but find it silly that there would be a distinction between what I am suggesting and tactical restarts, seeing as they are essentially the same thing. And I am only arguing against restarts, not because I disagree with them in practice, just because they go against the grain of "Single Segment", which seems to be the buzzword against framerate switching
I don't think it really classifies as segmented, it's not like I'm re-loading a save, just loading. I only see it as an elongated pause, since that's all it really is.
I don't see why pausing the game would be allowed in single segment at all, even if it is a tactical restart, since what I described earlier (going to the menu, changing framerate, going back) seems to be in the same line as tactical restarting, since I'm not reverting the timer at all, I don't really see why it would be separated into segmented.
I'd like to request moderation of Mega Man X5 and Mega Man X7, as the person who created those boards did so specifically to spite the community and does not frequent the website.
I think this seems more of an issue with moderation, having series mods isn't always a good idea, especially when they try to enforce their rules on games they don't run or care about.
Another question on segmented vs single segment
How come you're allowed to pause the game/timer, and restart via the menu in single segment?
So, if I were to do that then I suppose I'd submit a run under segmented then?
For clarification on my previous question, is it not faster to switch framerates mid-run for chapters which would yield the advantage (like that one chapter with the huge glitch on the lisland) and then switch back, or is that not allowed because of in-game time ruling?
Would exiting to main menu during the run to switch for certain chapters be worth it outside of segmented?
And how much faster is one compared to the other?
Do you have a full team? If not, I'd be down to join. I have a lot of expert routed already
If you watch the Campaign run for Dark Carnival, you'd notice that the helicopter arrives much earlier than it is supposed to, even the runner had no idea what was going on apparently, it'd be really nice if we could figure out how it actually works, since it would shave off a significant amount of time. In one of my runs, I noticed that it came before I fought the second tank, not as quickly, but still before it is supposed to. If anyone has ideas, that'd be neato.
That sounds alright to me. Also, if anyone wants Version 1.0 for solo runs, just send me a message.
Well, I'm basically running exactly what the Left 4 Dead 2 Main Campaigns category entails, but instead in L4D1. I'd prefer not having bot-kick console commands, as I believe changing to expert to kill them is more legitimate. Changing campaigns doesn't really matter, in L4D2 I used a callvote command as I entered the rescue vehicle to avoid the main menu, because it crashes in that version of the game, but it's risky (might switch campaigns before rescue etc), but either doesn't seem to matter. As for timing, I start the timer on control gain, and end it as the final cutscene begins using RTA, but I wouldn't be opposed to re-timing without loads (demo-time).
