Road Rash was one of my favorite Genesis games of all time. I am super excited to get involved in speedrunning the game. I realize that there are only a handful of runs for the game, and new runs haven't been approved in awhile so the likelihood of new categories is pretty limited, but I had a couple of ideas.

One of the key elements of Road Rash is the ability to knock other racers from their bikes. Maybe something that could breath some fresh life into the game are some additional fun categories such as the following:

Stolen Club: Fastest time to steal a club. Time starts when you select the course and ends when you successfully steal a club from another racer. This would likely be an extremely quick run, but would be a fun an interesting quick speed challenge rather than the full level runs.

Knockout: Fastest time to knock 10 opposing riders from their bikes. Again this category would have timing start upon selecting a course and ends when you successfully dislodge 10 other riders from their bikes by any means necessary. This could be another fun challenge that relies on a different set of skills than the basic race, and would be shorter than a full level run.

Thoughts?

I believe these niche categories make sense when there's a large playerbase and the main category is lively. I personally wouldnt want to see 5 categories with 2-3 runs while the main category has only a handful of times.

I think the most important thing is filling the level1 category. I asked for the moderation rights for the game the other day, so hopefully we'll be able to verify runs again and fill the leaderboard

If approved, if it's possible to have a category for the game gear version of road rash that would be great! I reached out to the moderator a few days ago but have not received a response.

is there a possibility to review this thread? I think it is a good idea to make the categorys identical to RR2 Level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the bikes

categories of RR2 are completely empty besides two instances where there is one entry, which to me completely defeats the purpose of a leaderboard.

then you have to decide which bike to use. surely you cant have every possibile bike for every level, otherwise you'd have more categories than the sum of every entry. But there is no correct bike to choose either

I can think about it, but i struggle to see any benefit of having even nicher categories which I would be insanely surprised if any of them would have a runner besides the one asking for it. I'll think about it tho'

I finished an IL run for Sierra Nevada on the Amiga. Could it be possible to add the system to the game?' My time is 2m 53s 500ms including some minor errors. Without doing much science about the games inner working, it looks like to be as fast as the Genesis version, so imho both could still share the same LB.

I looked it up. Not sure if it's exactly as fast, but it looks similar enough. I'll eventually try it. I've set up the extra platform so that you can submit it and it's gonna share the leaderboard with the genesis times.

Eventually platforms could be added as a subcategory, but since it's an isolated case it can stay as it is for the time being
