The problem with doing this is that people might look at it and say, "this person got an exception to the rule, why can't I?" That's the only problem with keeping it on the leaderboards.
Hi there! I was wondering what the moderation team would like to do with runs that currently do not have any video proof for them. There is only one run without video proof currently, and I believe that it is fine for it to be deleted due to having no video proof.
I'd like the input of everyone in the community as to what should be done with these runs.
Thanks!
Phone emulation is not allowed for emulation because they are notoriously inaccurate. That's pretty much all there is to it.
Because I am the only active moderator of this game, I have added a new rule that requires video proof for every run of this game.
The reason for this change is because it is the standard for almost every other game on this site.
Any runs that did not have any video proof have been removed from the leaderboards as a result of this change.
I live on a fixed income, and I don't have that kind of money to spare, unfortunately. Thanks for the explanations. The whole point of me wanting to speedrun this game is to submit it to the leaderboards, so I will just skip this game and move onto other projects I have in the works.
What if someone is unable to afford the equipment needed to play/record/capture the footage required for this ruling? By disallowing emulation, you are also restricting the amount of people that are able to speedrun this game.
I won't argue my point any further than this. If this doesn't change your mind, I will go and find another game to speedrun.
You can easily get around the second one by requesting a hard reset before the run. As for the first one, cheating is actually fairly straightforward to notice.
Furthermore, there are quite a few other games that allow emulators and they haven't had too many issues with it.
Basically put, it would add too much work to the current moderators, three of which are not active at all in verifying runs, which would leave only two moderators to actually do the work that, in my honest opinion, would take at least 5-6 extremely active moderators to do.
It just isn't feasible at this point in time. I'm not saying we cannot do it at this point in the future, but it just isn't needed right at this point in time.
Also, for the tied WR in 100 lines at this point in time, we could easily just retime the runs and see if they are accurate. That's as much as we would need to do at this point in time. One of us moderators could reach out to both of them and ask if they would like to do this, but I have a feeling that they would both say that it isn't that big of a deal.
EDIT: Since I follow Jonas on Twitch, I'll just ask him when he's live if he'd like his tied WR retimed myself. Will update you on this when I hear back from him.
EDIT2: He just said basically what I said, which is it is no big deal, so that is that.
One thing I forgot to mention is that everyone that is a part of this community would have to agree to this change, and I am not sure if everyone would agree to this change, which then goes back into my argument for not doing this because of the lack of activity. I just don't see enough new runs that are at a low enough time for this to matter yet.
This is definitely something that could be brought up in the future, when there are more runs at a 3:20 or faster pace, but I just don't think there are enough runs to do this at this point in time.
Would it be possible for you to allow for emulator runs for this game, please? I would very much like to do some runs of this game in multiple categories, but cannot at this moment due to the lack of the ability to allow for emulated runs.
Thanks :)
The problem with adding milliseconds is that we would have to go through all of the already submitted runs and add the milliseconds, which would involve a lot of frame counting, which isn't easy to do. Furthermore, some of the runs may no longer be available as they might have been done a long time ago, so in those cases, frame counting would not be possible, and therefore, retiming the runs to milliseconds would be near impossible down to the millisecond.
Another problem is that for frame counting this game, it only does it to thirds of a second (.334, .667 in terms of milliseconds), so it would be very difficult to get it down to the exact millisecond with the tools that we currently have available to use.
I wouldn't mind doing this, but I don't think it is necessary until we get a lot more times above a certain threshold, which I do not foresee happening for a while.
Other moderators are free to rebut anything I have said, but I am sure that they wouldn't want to add a lot of work to their workload already, as a bunch of them already moderate a lot of other leaderboards.
Please use this thread if you have any feedback on anything regarding how this leaderboard is being run, including, but not limited to:
*Categories *Rules
Thanks and happy hunting!
I currently use NEStopia UE vx.xx according to the emulator's about page. What I meant by "fast" in my original post was when I start running this game, and I start out with times that are fairly fast and or improve my PBs quickly, what I was wondering is if emulated runs get rejected due to being too close to the WR run (not that I'm going to get there anytime soon.)
This thread will detail all of the rule changes that this games' categories undergo from now on.
As of the time of this posting, two changes in the rules have been added:
- On 11/06/19, it was made possible to submit runs of any mine density but low. This applies to every category.
- Sometime in mid November, a major rule change was made that requires in game audio to be able to be heard in every submission. The purpose for this change is to make it harder to splice the runs together.
Let me know what other changes you would like to see! Thanks!
Are there any limits as to which emulators are allowed or if emulated runs are allowed, or if there are any limitations on how fast emulated runs are allowed (basically, if I get a fast time on emulator, would it be rejected vis-a-vi Super Mario Bros. where they only accept emulator runs that are a percentage slower than the current record runs)? Thanks in advance for the help!
Nothing has happened with regards to this post, so you're fine for now. All this means is that there is more interest for keeping the boards.
EDIT: I think I will take the time to go through and post runs for every level soon.
This was not to include more categories for this game. This was just the remove the IL leaderboards, since they have served very little purpose since I've been speedrunning this game.
Now, I would like to come back to this and say that the original purpose for making these categories does not seem to interest enough of the current or past runners to make it worthwhile to keep them. Not sure if anyone else agrees, but I just don't see the interest there. I would like to see all of the IL boards removed as there is a lack of interest for them.
There has been a total of like 10 runs in the six months since it has been added, which is far too little to support having leaderboards for each level, in my honest opinion.
I probably should have said "to the newest moderator" instead as it makes it sound like I'm part of the moderation team, Kappa :P
