I'll send a message to some of the other moderators to see what should be done.
Thank you for doing such an in-depth analysis on this matter Cards. I am going to keep my thoughts brief: A full ban is appropriate as this run is a TAS.
A note on this run: I verified this run after a frame count that clocked it in at around 2 minutes, but gave him the option to resubmit it in case he didn't agree with my ruling.
As far as I know, topping out is allowed in this game as some of my runs top out and were accepted.
I'm with NESCardinality here. Runs done on here should adhere to the current rules on the leaderboards and I also agree that the use of any romhack that has quality of life improvements would also constitute as an unfair advantage for those that use the romhack on the leaderboards. If it were ever to be allowed on the leaderboards, it would have to be with their own categories or category extensions, which I am not in favor of using because it most likely would dilute the playerbase a bit and would make moderation harder.
Some serious suggestions:
S-HARD: Manipless (any intentional AI manipulation is not allowed) V-HARD: Manipless (any intentional AI manipulation is not allowed)
I think that adding these extensions would provide a lot more of a skill intensive challenge that this game absolutely needs :)
@Elvi75 Sorry for getting back to you so late on this, but if you can provide me with three runs of going through the main game, I'll re-add the categories back (Any% and 100%).
Just DM me the links to the videos once you got them.
When I first saw this thread, I almost had a heart attack at the thought of losing all those runs XD
Both of these rule changes make complete sense. The first is already implemented over on the Tetris (NES) leaderboards, and the second I've implemented in every leaderboard that I moderate, so both are definitely acceptable to me.
There's a lot more than that now, but in general this game and system combination isn't going to be as popular as say the Dr. Mario (NES) community. It should still be a very active community. I definitely plan on doing more speedruns of this in the future, but right now, I've got to focus on the NES version.
It was decided that the main game should not be included in the leaderboard because it was all just a matter of memorization and to be frank, I don't think that would be the best runs to showcase on the leaderboards. In addition, very few people were actually running those categories.
That being said, we are willing to reinstate those boards if enough people want to run it.
Hope this answers your question!
Due to the amount of time that it has been taking to verify runs, I've decided to add a new moderator! Please help me welcome @BamBam325 to the moderation team!
NESCardinality is still an active Super Moderator, so you'll have to direct any requests his way.
The main reason why we don't have milliseconds for the leaderboard times is mostly due to the fact that two of our moderators are inactive (AFAIK) and it's mainly just death_taxes_64 and myself verifying runs at this point in time, so even doing milliseconds for the top 10 times of every leaderboard (A total of 74 runs) would be a lot of work. Furthermore, if we do that, I would want every run submitted afterword to be in milliseconds, so that would also be a lot more work for us.
In addition to this (and yes, I know you can use some websites to download Youtube/Twich videos from the Internet), retiming usually requires us to have a hard copy of the submission video in order to be able to do the retiming (at least the way that I do it), and getting that would be a big chore.
While I understand all of the points brought up in this thread, I don't think that it is feasible to add millisecond times for runs right now. I'd be more inclined to allow them if we had more active moderators, but we just don't have that at this point in time.
The other moderators are free to correct anything that I have written here if they disagree or have a different opinion on this.
This thread will collect all of the changes to categories that might happen in the future.
There is one potential category change that might happen if no interest in it is shown before the end of the year. If the 50 Infinite Levels have no runs submitted to it by the end of the year, I believe the right call to make would be to remove the category due to lack of interest.
There is a Windows accessibility option that allows you to turn your numpad into a mouse, letting you hit 5 and + to account for clicking the left and right mouse buttons.
Would this be allowed in Normal speedruns?
Thanks in advance!
I'd like to apologize for the long time in between when runs are submitted and when they get approved or rejected. I'm very busy at this point in time and the other moderator is inactive at this point in time.
I'll try to get to the runs submitted in as timely a manner as possible, but please note that this might take a while. Please be patient with me and I'll get to your runs as soon as I can.
To help with this, a new moderator has been added, Hyperdron. Welcome to the moderation team!
This is true. A lot of the top runs are already done with the OPIPEX code already used, however, here's the problem that we run into with allowing some codes that don't affect the gameplay of the game: people can sneak in other codes that DO affect the gameplay.
If the player who uses OPIPEX or the 1M score code were to, say, show the GG menu and show that only those codes are selected, and then go immediately into the game without cutting the video, I would be fine with allowing them, but it would be up to the rest of the moderation team on whether or not they agree with me on this issue.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
