Speeding up a run refers to manipulating the speed of the run that you submitted.

Cutting frames and increasing the video's speed applies to this rule. What you "could've" done as opposed to what you did does not matter in the face of a rule violation.

What Maxi did was completely in line with the rules. Your ignorance of them does not make you immune to enforcement. His tendency to be "unforgiving" is completely justified. The creation of the rule system at the time of its creation was entirely so that there was able to be a consistent enforcement of in-game rules, without any threat of a moderator giving in to whims about giving overly excessive punishments or "letting one slide".

As for the timing system, I'm indifferent. If you have a better system to propose, I'm sure Maxi is open to hear it.

If one can prove that a speedrun is impossible using the same strats as a current WR, then the runs of a certain category should be cleared. (See: Skylands Leaper)

Several places that have consistent rubberband (unexploitable with current knowledge).

House Stairs (boosted) Pyramid Stairs Left Side (Leaper) (boosted) Log Jump from the first snowy island (left side)

I can give footage if needed, and you can try these yourself. (It's hard to explain the locations without images, so I may do it later).

this anticheat honestly.

There really isn't a point for me to stay when I'm not doing much of anything here these days.

Much of my stay has been accompanied by a dull, false hope that this game can be revived somehow.

However, I see no future for me here.

It's been fun.

Now, for my individual input on this.

I will now list a couple reasons why I personally think this update was stupid.

  1. Addressing casual players

I assume this update was made for the reason of abuse in public lobbies. However, it is much better as an enforced rule rather than as a full fix. At this point, now that Dragon Escape does not even have its own individual server anymore, the speedrunners have significantly more combined playtime in a ratio compared to average players than ever before. This kind of update was made without regard to speedrunning in any way, shape, or form.

  1. The sheer lateness of it

Even if this is the case, all the potential "damage" that could be done has pretty much already happened. This update was very unnecessarily late not for days, weeks, or even months, but for YEARS. This has been a VERY known exploit in the community for years before this update has been applied onto the server, however, it was decided that the most appropriate time to fix it was right now, right when DE has reached rock bottom in player count/interest.

If the intention was to fix the casual players' experience, this was an abysmal job done in terms of playerbase awareness. However, this is just a conjecture on my part. For all I know, they could've known this the entire time and just did nothing about it.

  1. Pointlessness (this one is a bit more subjective)

My conjecture on the reason for this update is that a bug is being exploited that affects casual gameplay, therefore it was fixed. However, these instances are incredibly rare to see in casual games due to a minute sense of etiquette on speedrunners' part in public games (a trait I haven't seen reciprocated lately) and the fact that this strategy is not easy to perform by an inexperienced player in the first place. Something like this requires full effort to do by a casual player, and it would have been much easier to just enforce a no-exploit rule rather than completely impeding an aspect of speedrunning. (However, I doubt this matters to them anyway.)

These types of events have not helped with the DE community in any way I've ever seen.

As much as I'd like to provide input on how graceless this update was, I'll stay as neutral as possible about it in the OP.

Without sugarcoating it, warper, as a category, will be cleared of records. This is due to a recent Mineplex update that made it so that mid-air warping isn't doable, and that the player teleports to the ground the person they're warping to was last standing on.

For anybody who still cares, that is about the gist of it.

Only two people are banned. These people have been watchlisted for either being a potential cheater, or have had a history of cheating. Everyone in the old banlist was also watchlisted.

Then I guess I see no valid counterarguments against it :P

(except for fatty's, but his isn't really an argument against Any%, but rather an argument against making Any% the "main" category for leaper)

it's obvious when i say it, but when i say "miliseconds" i mean tenths of a second, which is technically a decisecond.

United StatesCraftainJ6 years ago

watch it if ur interested in listening to me ramble on and 'showing evidence'.

thunder is welcome to defend himself, but for now, he will be banned. Because of the amount of runs 'cheated', it will be a maximum time ban of 2 years.

we in the dragon escape moderation team take cheaters very seriously.

You don't, it's permanent

But basically it's designed so if you're not a cheater, you really shouldn't have to worry about it anyway. This is mostly due to the fact that it only affects your penalty if you DO cheat.

Theoretically we CAN implement the system and just give ambiguously timed runs some sort of penalty, but that might be a bit unfair. That means either f3 or some sort of coords mod would become mandatory.

P.S. This would also give an opening to more forms of "micro-cheating", such as spoofing your coords by miniscule amounts :')

United StatesCraftainJ6 years ago

Thought it would make fun discussion. I'll discuss whether or not something along the lines of this should be implemented due to the nature of speedrunning + the fact that I haven't technically seen ANY. Feel free to give me any opposing points thanks.

P.S. This is talking about categories in which there isn't a separate category for menu grabbing (like no leap).

Calling names won't help anybody in this situation @Cerdax.

@Paris_Labrador you can also stop being an asshat and just leave him alone. That would also do quite nicely.

Keep in mind I'm not the one who banned you, but there's at least a couple reasons I know this can be justified.

You've been getting strangely faster runs, managing to gain on people even on a straight line.

See: https://www.speedrun.com/mcm_hsp/thread/03nom

Gaining on people on a straight line cannot be explained by fov or strats.

Due to this evidence, we gave you a certain amount of time in order to get a run with the same quality and speed as the ones you got on Hypixel. In fact, I was trying to get people to be lenient with you even though you went over the timeframe we have given you (By a lot, by the way).

This isn't even because you're StarMonkay. People have accused you of different forms of cheating, even under different names when we didn't even know you were YOU yet. Either you're extremely unlucky, or something is up.

This is an isolated case that I've never seen anywhere else. I'm not trying to be rude, in fact, I've tried my hardest to be as nice as possible in this situation.

Sorry for this inconvenience, but this is the best we can do for now.

United StatesCraftainJ6 years ago

that sounds horrible and will give so many ppl who dont have friends a disadvantage. Theres no rule against it though

United StatesCraftainJ6 years ago

No, lobbies are included.

United StatesCraftainJ6 years ago

ask any questions about it, as i kinda rushed for this one.

and yes, cheating of any kind on any DE run will get you WL'd. if you're legit, you have nothing to worry about as we'd find no evidence wink

United StatesCraftainJ6 years ago

There is now a new banlist/watchlist. Disregard this one. See: https://www.speedrun.com/Dragon_Escape/thread/25vhf
