Ban Imposed on Save and Quits in All Modded Runs
Posted 2 years ago by

We have decided to add the following to the Game Rules on all modded leaderboards:
Save and Quits to replace retries or skip gameplay animations are banned.
This is listed under Game Rules as it applies to both fullgame and IL modded runs. It goes beyond the recently added vanilla rule to functionally blanket ban the use of S+Q's to save IGT, including skipping wakeup animations, heart/cassette cutscenes, etc.

There is always the potential for a custom map to use an unlimited amount of vanilla and custom animations/cutscenes that would incentivise the use of S+Q's to save time, with a real possibility that this would negatively impact said map's speedrun. Given that S+Q's are not yet prominent in modded runs, we decided to nail this down now and introduce a rule that negates any future issues requiring rule adjustments and run retiming.

The wording of this rule still allows S+Q's to deal with unexpected IRL circumstances, manage nerves/tilt, take a quick break, etc, provided they do not occur in advantageous spots. We understand that this flexibility can really help improve the run experience, particularly for ILs like 9D.

The one run we did find on our leaderboards that used an S+Q advantageously has been appropriately retimed, which has been noted in its description. If you notice any runs that we missed or have any issues with the rule change, please contact one of the moderators on this page so we can look into it.
