@dxmn8975 a rather uncommon thing for us nerds, but yeah I'm serious
not true http://www.speedrun.com/run/8y89q11m (Sparsie on any% default rookie)
and since I'm in a good mood, here is some bonus material: KHeartz' run he did on Digithon 2015. This should be enough video material to get started.
Have a nice day :)
Not sure how relevant that is for Mario 64 but I guess using save states to reset is NOT allowed in most games since resetting also sets the RNG back to a random seed. That's not the case if you use an emulator save state.
In case that there is no German guy to take part here, I could do so.
My name is Hdot and I'm from Germany. Of my speedgames I'd like to talk about Digimon World 3. It's more of a rare speedrun and it fits the Endurance topic. (My WR is 7h22min right now.)
"Okay. I guess people will always find a way to not have to admit that they're wrong."
Again. Why the hell should you be decicding on what is right or wrong? It might be that you have a very decent life and got very far and maybe this wouldn't have happened if you had attempted long speedrunning sessions. But that's not of any importance. We don't know you (unless some followers of you, if they read this) so you are pretty much an anonymous person without any right on deciding what makes you advance in life or not. We'd need to define what makes a life great. What makes life great for you? Money? Family? Sports? Sex? I really don't know. But for me my leisure activities are part of making my life great and wasting several hours by running ass long games is definitely one of them. I'm happy with that and there are also different things I achieve in life. So what should be wrong about that. Personally, I would accuse you now that you are taking the wrong decission by insulting us this way. And you might still defend yourself by saying that we are wrong and waste our lives [...]
See where this is going? Now continue reaching your life goals, because I will be as well. Reach for the stars. Have a nice day, pal.
@battleonfan1
What actually makes you assume that you have even slightly more of a life then us who do long runs? It's just a matter of how much time you sacrifice for your leisure activity - which is speedrunning. Doing a 8 hour run isn't that hard if you have some kind of plan. Also short categories can easily add up to an 8 hour session if you need to reset a lot, it's just that your timer doesn't show your total playtime.
I'd never accuse any speedrunner of having no life, bc I myself am one of these. You did runs too, so please stop being mean to the community you are part of because it doesn't makes sense at all.
Sometimes I practice the most difficult sections and sometimes I just start right away. On short games (i.e. below 20 minutes) I usually start instantly.
For very long games (i.e. Digimon World 3 which is around 7.5 hours with good rng!) I always did lots of things:
- Check that I'm not tired, freezing or really sad or something. (Even though a slight anger sometimes helps on execution)
- Go to the bathroom
- Check that I have enough food, water, also a coffee is helpfull
- make sure that nobody will enter my room the next hours (or at least that nobody will interrupt me)
- turn off my phone - I wouldn't answer anyway
- get my chair comfy with pillows - seven to eight hours can be really long sitting on a chair
That would be great. I hope this is happening, sounds like that would make a longer category for this game.
It's not that important, but I'd say it's at least okay for a misc. category. Too bad tournament is the only real singe player mode yet, I'd like to have another legit category.
Hey guys! I'm not sure if such a thread already exists, if yes this one may be closed, I guess? So I experienced a very punishing situation yesterday. I did a run of Digimon World 3 and after 7.5 hours of gaming I only needed one hit on Galacticmon and I would have had world record by around ten seconds. Unfortunately the attack got blocked - no WR. after that he even killed kotemon and outspeeded my patamon - run dead, not even a PB.. This nearly brought me to tears.
So guys now I want to watch your saddest moments in your speedrunning career. You slipped off PB or WR by a few seconds? Lost a freaking damn long run to RNG? You lost a run because your cat scratched you in the eyeball? Pls share your personal speedrun moments which made you almost cry. :)
If someone would like to watch, here is the highlight of what I described above:
@Chronokirby, I guess he is going for "100% happiness" category, where you need to finish your life as quick as possible once your lifetime-happiness meter turns onehundred. What you were referring to is any% and I bet if he had done this category, he wouldn't be able to discuss that with us. Kappa
And who exactly decided that using drugs should be banned? I mean, it is the faster strat. In my opinion, using drugs should be allowed in the run, as long as the timer keeps running. Kappa. (I should do some runs on molly sometime)
9:40 PM CET very happy with my time window! :)
Hey! First of thanks for visiting.
It was just a thing me and fluuh thought about. We were considering to have two categories like "good ending" and "bad ending" but we discarded this idea because it would be weird to have two categories which are completely the same besides the ending. So we fused them to the normal any% but we wanted to arward players who grind for the good RNG with the timesave. Technically the RNG is still part of the game, so we wanted to keep it so you can benefit from good RNG there if you are patient enough.
Of course it would make sense to split after the last level because the ending does not require any amount of skill, but we did not want to eliminate the only RNG of the game. I might consider changing the timing method, though. I see that losing a good run to bad RNG might be frustrating.
For now I'd say you just try to do some runs with our timing method. If this is like a real issue to you then just reply and I might accept to use your timing method. I still don't know which one makes more sense.
Anyway, thanks for dropping by and I wish you good luck for any runs you attempt! :)

Make sure that you know what buttons to press to perform the next menu. For example after pressing the A button for accessing the minigames, if you wanted to go to i.e. Orbulon, you'd need to press up 4 times and the left button one time, also another time A to enter Orbulon. Just learn these button combinations, so you can pull them off quickly without having to think about it.
Also know when to reset. You'll need to reset (A+B+Start+Select) as soon as the minigame counter goes up after fighting the boss stage. Let's say you beat the Wario 1 Boss, the counter will go from 9 to 10. As soon as the 10 is visible you may reset. If you reset later you lose time, if you reset sooner then Wario 1 will not count (run's over then). Try to get a feeling for getting the perfect resets. Also keep in mind that you need to reset two times to skip all the cutscenes, so you need to take a quick 2nd reset once the title screen is visible. Afterwards press A to get to the main menu, another time A to enter the minigames and then the next button combination I mentioned above.
That's all there is for menuing. The rest is practicing on your execution. Good luck.
