Is Level 1 (and possibly other levels) limited to start from career or menu? The menu only gives you a certain bike while in career you have the possibility to buy another. Also if you chose a woman character (only career mode) it gives you slight speed advantage on some bikes.
Wouldn´t it make more sense to limit individual level runs to start from menu only and have the career mode be a seperate category itself because of the things above? (I´m talking about PC version I forgot to add, don´t know about others)
I didn't know about the speed advantage. I do know that some bikers have weapons.(played the Playstation version here).
I agree with career mode being a separate category. And menu as you say (arcade?) being miscelaneous or something as well as individual tracks.
Also a Request for mod @Sk1pBaSe: I'm excited about a full run of the game, and I ask for a Level 5 Category to be added.
Yeah, kicking opponents also gives a slight speed boost. Weapons probably are not really useful for speedrun, but fun regardless. :P The obvious choice in career mode is Cydney because with 1000$ starting cash you can get Killer Rat bike earlier and she has best starting bike.
As for the categories, the "Thrash Mode" which is the arcade one could be used for those seperate Level 1,2,3,4,5 categories, otherwise you would just always chose the Vipera bike in the career mode, kinda boring. The different tracks (either only the longest from level 5 or all) as IL board would be more fitting for that. I think you don´t neccessarily would need to put those Level 1,2,3,4,5 categories into misc, there is probably enough room. And "Big Game Mode" aka the career mode should be the full-game category.
I submitted some run for PC version and wait for verification: https://www.dropbox.com/s/fsn1l300tvmtqws/RR_lvl1_15_52.avi?dl=0
The different platforms should be probably seperated, the loading times on PS for example take forever. x)
OK, resubmitted it now. About categories, rules need to be specified more:
- what mode allowed (level 1 can be very different in career mode than thrash mode)
- ILs for each track (city, nevada.. pacific highway) and only level 5 or each
- seperate platforms or not
Yep, just tell how to make it looks not weird, cause i was running %Level1 in all other RR games, so that was only category that was always on point, this game is different
For "Level 1" category:
- chose "Thrash Mode" and the timing as you have it Maybe later if needed you could create additional categories for Level 2, 3 and etc.
"Beat Big Game Mode" should be another category, that is the career mode:
- run starts when you start first track in Level 1 in Big Game mode
- run ends when you finish last race in Level 5
There need to be probably individual level board for each track (level 5) (City, Peninsula, Pacific, Nevada, Valley):
- ingame time counts
You can do subcategories for each different platform, otherwise it is unfair if you run on PS loading time is significant. Also idk if PS or other versions have career mode.
At the moment nothing is set in stone, but it probably is best to keep the Level x categories for thrash mode. Otherwise it would be in first level cydney -> buying killer rat after 3 races and finish rest with it and for other potential level 2,3,4,5 categories it would be just the diablo bike, kinda boring no? So suggestion is to have the Level x categories in Thrash mode and career aka Big Game Mode as seperate full-game category, while leaving each track for the IL-board (there diablo vipera bike will be used anyway since it is fastest).
I never noticed that the other runs used Thrash Mode was my problem lol. I (incorrectly) assumed that Skips run was also in Big Game mode.
The Level 1 Category rules seem a bit vague:
- Play in Thrash Mode
- Run starts when you hit the button to start any chosen track from Level 1 tracks.
- Run ends when you qualify for the last track in Level 1 (by crossing the finish line).
That makes it sound like I only have to qualify on the last track, and just exit out of every other track as quickly as possible. Surely that's not valid?
Seems good to me.
By the way Nicolas Soto on YouTube has some great IL runs on PC. Sadly he doesn't seem to be on this site, but if you ever feel like adding them...
Thanks for the update. Not allowing pausing seems reasonable to me.
I hope more people discover Road Rash. It's really a great game...easy to learn, but hard to master.
