@ckellyedits well with that attitude you might as well allow cheaters on the board cause who cares, you dont gain anything in the real world.

Obviously you technically are not allowed to submit a run as your own if you didnt do it. From time to time people actually submit old runs from other people as their own and it gets noticed and rejected. but of course it's often impossible to know if you just get a friend to do a run for you. A lot of the speedrunning community/boards is build on trust since a lot of stuff is in the end hard/impossible to know if everything is legitimate.

Or when you watch other people speedrun, you might see a game that looks fun to you, then just try it out. If it doesn't feel right, then try another game. Keep in mind that "good casual game" and "good speedgame" do not necessarily overlap, a bad or boring game casually can make a great speedgame and a game you enjoy a lot casually might not be a good speedrun.

edit game -> categories -> edit category(with the 3 dots next to the category) -> change player count
Again, just because the point of low% is minimum completion, by definition, that doesn't always automatically mean that any run that fails to reach the theoretical minimum is invalid. The point of an any% speedrun, for instance, is to complete the game as fast as possible, that doesn't mean you reject all the times that don't reach the theoretical fastest time!
Sorry but that is just a silly comparison that makes no sense. A better comparison would be a 100% category where you allow people with 99% on the boards and that just should not happen.

As long as you know the minimum amount of collectibles possible to finish, I don't see a reason for any workaround like that. Any run that collects additional stuff is clearly not qualified for low%. It would only get more complicated if after a while people figure out how to skip more collectibles resulting in a lower percentage of stuff. Low% is usually meant in a very strict way to really just collect the bare minimum and nothing else. Is there randomness to the collectibles? then low% would probably be a nightmare to run anyway lol

I am curious why people would choose google drive instead of youtube for their videos in the first place?

Well, without even much thinking about it I could name you several games where the WR is not or not anymore on the site. Stop thinking that everyone submit his runs here or cares about this site lol even small and unknown games like Super Metroid any% does not have the current WR on this site.

World record is a meaningless, arbitrary thing for speedrunning. And there could be faster runs out there that are just not submitted to SRC anyway.

You can use an analog stick just fine, it is allowed. but it's most likely a disadvantage over using a dpad, risk of wrong inputs/diagonals is higher.

Two still way too unknown games would be Panic Restaurant and Little Samson, both pretty simple to pick up runs and really great late NES titles. Journey to Silius was named already, really good one. Gremlins 2 is another really fun game, same with Power Blade.

I could also suggest you Kid Icarus or Ghosts 'n Goblins but those are definitely not the easiest games ;-)

hey, welcome and have fun speedrunning. Be aware that this is definitely not an easy run tho, so dont get discouraged :) Emulator runs are definitely allowed and the NES mini is just that, an emulator, so its also allowed. From what I know the classic mini runs a bit slower than real hardware (you lose like a second every 10 minutes or so, maybe even less). There's both emu and NES classic mini runs on the board. For emulator Mesen, Bizhawk/NEShawk, puNES, Nestopia and FCEUX are the most acceptable emulators as far as I know, not an expert on emulators tho.

And all you need to submit are you actual PB runs. Some additional info for nes/emulator runs if you wanna make sure to not do stuff wrong: https://goo.gl/pYN6AR

As far as I know the Pro Action Replay has no region protection, so you can use it on PAL SNES as well as SFC. But you should be able to try that on your SFC anyway.

I know that my Nakitek Game Saver can do that without problem. I bought it for the savestate function way back but it works fine with both us and jp games.

Here someone listed more options but I'm not familiar with most of them: https://www.reddit.com/r/snes/comments/3arb0u/snes_to_super_famicom_via_adapter_questions/csfl23g/

Some people have fun using glitches, so why tell him to just completely stop using glitches? lol Glitches are not making the game harder by definition. There's a lot of glitches in games that are easy to pull off and make the run not only faster but easier.

There are usually several ressources and guides either on the game page here on src or in the respective community's discord, so check them out and see if they get you further. If not, don't be afraid to ask the game's runners for help and advice, usually there are a lot of helpful people that are glad to help someone new to the game. And in general, don't be discouraged if you can't pull off stuff quickly. there are tricks and glitches that take even the best runners hours and hours and hours to learn and even longer to make them consistent for runs (I'm not familiar with those runs in particular but I think at least Ratchet and Clank games have some really tough tricks). But if you still feel that you get nowhere or it's too hard, try out another game and maybe come back later to try again. Just keep in mind that what you see in speedruns is usually the result of a lot of practice and sometimes years of experience. You don't just get good, it can be a slow process.

Recent IL runs 6 Recent full-game runs 0 Number of recent runs 6 Number of currently active players 7

so not surprising.

If it's not possible to replicate, then it's often most likely just a random hardware failure, especially if we are talking old consoles like nes, snes and so on. I had that in Kid Icarus once where I was warped too early to the next stage. Or people randomly getting warped to the final stage on Castlevania 1 thanks to the cart being tilted in the console. Definitely would not submit a run with anything like that in the first place. And at that point you could sometimes also not rule out if some form of concious cheating is involved.

If it takes the fun out of speedrunning that a game has no leaderboard here and you only speedrun to have a "great" number on a board here, then I would question my reasons and motivation for speedrunning.

SDA was never a record tracking site or trying to collect runs for leaderboards. It was always about good high quality runs (on their standards) and not necessarily about the fastest run.

If it's segmented runs, I see nothing too crazy about those times. Sure, its a lot of time but it's nothing special to have several thousand hours invested in a game for a lot of people. Not sure if some people are just not familiar with the term segmented run but since you record it in parts (and often reload and redo sections if they are not good enough) you can just take your time with completing the full run. Segmented runs are nowadays mostly not done anymore, its usually singlesegment/RTA and TASes, Segmented runs were popular a long time ago.
