Rule set needs changing

As of now i currently hold the world record speed run for killing cat-lon. in fact i can go faster. Even so legitimately it's unbeatable for others at 51 seconds. Im not being arrogant or facetious even slightly.

I think the rules need to be changed to remain fair. This will of course invalidate my run, but meh.

The current Rules:

#These rules apply to all categories unless stated otherwise.

##General Rules

  • No FCS (Forgotten Construction Set)
  • No mods
  • Speedrun timer always starts at character loading into map (not creation)

##Submission Rules

  • [Optional] Use a timer (you don't have to but it's easier for everyone)
  • Show your mod list in some form
  • Remove loading times from your final times (don't remove manual pauses)
  • If you choose to save scum, all but the loading times count towards your in-game time
  • Calculating milliseconds isn't optional if times are within seconds of one another

The Proposed Rules: #These rules apply to all categories unless stated otherwise.

##General Rules

  • No External Versions of the Game.
  • No Modified Game files such as Scaraw's NVIDA profile, Re_Kenshi, or other projects.
  • Speedrun timer always starts at character loading into map, not on character creation.

##Submission Rules

  • [Optional] Use a timer (you don't have to but it's easier for everyone)
  • Mod list must be shown before the start of a new game
  • Game Must be started from the steam or GOG launcher and shown to be so in the video.
  • Remove loading times from your final times
  • Manual Pauses DO NOT count for time removal
  • If you choose to save scum, all but the loading times count towards your in-game time
  • Calculating milliseconds isn't optional if times are within seconds of one another
United States

Current Category Rules for Hardcore:

defeat said leader via death or imprisonment in an enemy's base

Confirm their death.

  • Using the in-game editor is not allowed
  • Do not change the default multipliers in the gameplay menu or game start
  • Reloading the game is not allowed; these runs are quick enough to where if your game crashes consider it over
  • No 'stop selected characters actions'
  • Since save scumming isn't allowed in this category, your recorded time is your in game time

Proposed Changes:

defeat said leader via death or imprisonment in an enemy's base

Confirm their death.

  • Using the in-game editors , external modding or other such developer like tools, is not allowed.
  • Do not change the default multipliers in the gameplay menu or game start. These must be shown in the run.
  • Reloading the game is not allowed; these runs are quick enough to where if your game crashes consider it over
  • No 'stop selected characters actions'
  • No Save Scumming

Manual Pauses DO NOT count for time removal - did someone do this ?

  • Reloading the game is not allowed; these runs are quick enough to where if your game crashes consider it over
  • No 'stop selected characters actions'
  • No Save Scumming (redunat - if the game is reloaded the run is over in HC )
United States

did someone do this ?

it doesn't matter if someone did, but rather that people don't.

redunat - if the game is reloaded the run is over in HC )

Redundant* and save scumming and reloading are different. Which is why both are applied here. It's why i wrote the suggested rule changes.

Save Scumming is the action of reloading because of an unfavorable outcome

Reloading is simply reloading the save.

Appears as if I am the only mod who has been on in a while... I was reaching out to another when I realized that. When I get on my computer (Mobile atm) I will overlook the rules and edit them if it allows me to. I do not want to edit the rules for anything except what I must. Which means I will do the bare minimum changes which will avoid situations like this from happening again. Also currently runs are auto-approved to make it less reliant on having to wait for a moderator. If people were to begin to abuse that I'd probably set it so a mod will need to approve a run for it to appear on the boards and just check in once a day.

any reloading; for any reason in HC invalidates the run. so I don't understand the point you are trying to make ?

Is there a form of verifying game files on GoG? Similar to steam? Asking because I might add

"You must prove you have turned off all your mods and are running the game entirely vanilla – show us you’ve done this by verifying the game in Steam (right click the game in Steam, click “properties”, “local files” and “verify integrity of game files”)" like what was used in the egg speedrun challenge.

Proposed changes as of right now.

#These rules apply to all categories unless stated otherwise.

##General Rules

  • No use of FCS. (Forgotten Construction Set)
  • You must prove you have turned off all your mods and are running the game entirely vanilla – show us you’ve done this by verifying the game in Steam. (Right click the game in Steam, click “properties”, “local files” and “verify integrity of game files”)
  • Gameplay options must be set at default values. Prove it by showing us the options screens before or after your run.
  • Speedrun timer starts once your character loads into the map, not on character creation screen.

##Submission Rules

  • [Optional] Use a timer. (You don't have to but it's easier for everyone)
  • Mod list must be shown before the start of a new game or after your run.
  • Remove loading times from your final times. (Don't remove manual pauses)
  • If you choose to save scum, all but the loading times count towards your in-game time.
  • Calculating milliseconds isn't optional if times are within seconds of one another.

Thoughts? I am a mod but I'm only supposed to change rules not based off my own opinion but off the community. And the verification for GoG will probably be needed to be added in. I just need to know what system they use on that website.

The changes are basically adding in the easter speedrun rule of prove mods are tuned off, and running the game entirely vanilla. As such I will not need to add to not use stuff like RE_Kenshi/Scars stuff as they are removed upon reverifying game files correct?

Also added default values like in their rules. I included that it can be shown before or after the run. Same for mod list shown.

These are my thoughts / I'm not a mod / it's not meant to be personal:

Last night I was attempting a new real world record, and basically at the very start of the run I need to sell something. there is a high chance the shop keeper does not have enough money, but not 0. so I need to quit and try again over and over. I must have done 40 or so starts last night (im trying to beat a new record of mine that is not public yet, but will be this tomorrow). so under this new rule 2 things are going to happen everyone speed running will need to re-verify game files before the run i think that take 20 mins or so then open the game show no mods show setting and start the run. in the above example there is a possibility of 1-10 fails before the real run take place, it is alot of bloat to the video or alot of time if you quit the game and re open, now you must also re-validate again another 20 mins. -OR- Make an edit in the video wich i have done in the past but making an edit anyone can splice in any footage with that.

the second thing that will happen is all past runs without game verification will become void and kenshi speed running will be reset to zero. (all runs without verification will be viewed as illegitimate.

in the bottom right side of the screen on the main game menu is the verison number, and yours is some "jimbads build". we have a human verify the runs & the videos are scrutinised by the community. although it might be hard to pick up subtle changes. its an interesting thought / concern, but idk how much of an issue it actually is.

Atlas: do you have an example of anyone (besides you) breaking the rules in the way you mentioned ?

Atlas - you do not have any legitimate runs so I don't understand your concern or motivation, please explain.

My motivation is that I have legitimate runs, and this rule would invalidate everyone's runs and possibly kill kenshi speed running. and it would also be a big pain to make new runs.

LMAO Atlas you King lol - I just got the updated Lore; however with a rule change like that i think i still have valid concerns.

New rules as of right now.

#These rules apply to all categories unless stated otherwise.

##General Submission Rules

  • No External Versions of the Game.
  • Using the in-game editors, external modding or other such developer like tools, is not allowed.
  • The recording must start by verifying your game files on GOG or Steam and you must start the game from that launcher after.
  • You must show that the gameplay settings are set to default, and your mod list is empty at the start of a new game or after your run.
  • Speedrun timer starts once your character loads into the map, not on character creation screen.
  • In game loading times do not count towards the time of the run.
  • Time spent manually paused does count towards your time.
  • If save scumming, all but game loading times count towards your run. (i.e. pausing & menu times)

It is recommended to use timers and in the case of close calls, times will be determined by milliseconds.

These rules have been updated as of September 20th, 2023. Prior speedruns are not expected to follow the updated rules and are still valid.

"

If anyone believes things should be changed or any disagreements let me know here please. I can also edit category rules to be more clear.

Like in the egg speedruns a while back

"If you wish to do multiple runs in one stream after verifying files and options just once, feel free to do so without having to go through the verification/options-showing process for each run. Please ensure that you add a timestamp for the start of the run that you’d like to be considered"

I am willing to do this to. So you won't need to verify after each failed run. Just be sure it's one video.

How about also a new category while we are at it - i think it would be fun but honestly we need more speed runners to keep the competition up - Hardcore - No Assassin Category !! <3

Glad this is settled. I would have been super pissed if I did not die in that run last night. it was almost perfect until those damn spiders got in my path/ one of the only spots I had to swim !!

Time spent manually paused does count towards your time. - this is bonkers, was this a mistake ? infinite shop time

oh I read that wrong HAHAHAA good

Hey, I'm personally too busy to keep the Kenshi speedrunning at the forefront of my attention. If either of you want moderator to fix what you have issues with I'll just give it. The community's so small that I see no harm in just handing it out to those who care.
