At the moment, we only have the Forward times on the main page of the ILs, while Backwards is only accessible over a very inconvenient way. Imo we should have both directions visible, and there should be enough space for those times as well.
So in the end we'd have:
- Stock, FW
- Stock, BW
- NFS Edition, FW
- NFS Edition, BW
What do you think?
It's exactly same as on other NFS leaderboards. Forward/backward are subcategories. The main page of ILs on speedrun.com only displays the default subcategory, which is Forward. What you propose would make it easier to see Backward category for this particular game, but I'd personally like if all leaderboards look the same.
Why not make forward/backwards a variable instead? That way you would always see the quickest lap on the boards, no matter if backwards or forwards is faster.
If you only show forwards and backwards on the page rather than NFS edition/stock forwards as it is at the moment, then you don't account for whether the fastest times on tracks were done on NFS edition cars or with stock cars. Personally I think it's weird that it only shows the world record times for forwards tracks with NFS edition and stock cars respectively and it would just be a whole lot easier having all four categories shown, but I don't think it's possible to do noting that it'll even cause more clutter on the page even if it can be done.
I can't really tell much of a difference between NFS edition and stock cars either way but I'm pretty sure there are some differences with the NFS edition cars that alter how they perform compared to the stock cars besides the fact all NFS edition cars have a unique cosmetic paint job.
The biggest difference is that NFS edition cars are significantly faster than their stock counterparts.
I agree that showing Backward instead of Stock would make more sense. I don't know why the Stock category is even a thing in this game at all.
In a game like NFS 3 Stock makes a lot of sense because there non-stock requires you to manually tune your car. But here the NFS Edition cars are just slightly faster versions of the Stock cars. In a sense they are "stock" as well because they are not manually tuned in any way. There isn't much of a point to have separate leaderboards for the non-NFS cars because they are just slightly slower versions of the NFS ones and otherwise there is no difference. Backward on the other hand makes a track a completely different challenge.
I am definitely against what Molotok wrote. That would make no sense at all indeed.
You guys really want it to look like this?
- Stock, FW
- Stock, BW
- NFS Edition, FW
- NFS Edition, BW
Stock category is in my opinion completely fine. Its like NOS/No NOS in MW/Carbon or Arcade/Simulation/Wild in NFSII
No, my suggestion was Forward and Backward and remove the Stock boards or hide them like the Backward ones are currently hidden.
I disagree with your comparison with MW/Carbon and NFS 2. There is a very big difference between using NOS or not using it in MW/Carbon. And Arcade, Simulation and Wild feel very different from each other in NFS 2. Driving the NFS McLaren and the Stock McLaren in HP2 on the other hand feels pretty much identical. The Stock one will lose a couple of seconds because it's a tiny bit slower everywhere but you don't really feel any difference during the run or have to do anything different. Therefore I really don't see much of a point to the Stock category in this specific game. Turning off NOS in MW/Carbon or changing the handling mode in NFS 2 significantly changes the gameplay experience, so that's something very different.
@Paragleiber: Backwards or not shouldn´t matter, might as well create extra categories for mirrored or weather/ night etc.(possibilities in NSF3/4) that way and blow out the boards for every possible variation. That doesn´t change the fact that it is still the same track and people care for the quickest time, be it backwards or not. Makes only sense to seperate if the car physics are different or you can alter them with tuning or nos imo.
What you are saying is nonsense. Playing mirrored or at night makes no difference in terms of the time that is possible because the track is exactly the same. Asking for mirrored or night boards is idiotic.
Playing a track backwards makes a difference. It makes it essentially a different track. And the main time shown should always be Forward, even if Backward is faster for some tracks. Backward should definitely continue to be treated separately.
And it's not really important to me if the Backward boards are shown on the front page or the way that it currently is. They are definitely more relevant than the Stock boards though.
And weather doesn´t? You can perceive it as you want, but in the end it IS the freakin same track with just different options. Put the variations into variables and people will always see the quickest time on the board for the track, THAT is the point.
If a track is quicker backwards i rather would like to see that instead of the forward one. Don´t forget that you can filter out by variables so it still would be possible to see best backward/forward whatever times only.
Yes, we understand what you want. You want it to show the forward time for a track if the forward time is faster and the backward time if the backward time is faster. But I think this is wrong and I am strictly against that. If a track is faster backwards I still want it to show the forward time on the front page and the backward time only in the backward category (whether this is also on the front page or the way it is now).
Maybe you perceive forward and backward as the same track but I don't think many racing game players do. I have been playing these games competitively for 13 years and I have never heard something like that.
Turn the apple upside down and it becomes a different apple, we understand you, yeah. =))
But jokes aside, as example the non speedrun.com boards for NFS HS display only the quickest track times, which is a way of having a narrow board. Didn´t see anyone ever complain about it. That said, we made our points and in the end its up to the mods to decide.
You forgot the mirrored direction for both forwards and backwards track. Can you add them please?
The leaderboard is currently in the process of being manually retimed and having the correct car filters applied to all runs. Please bear with me over the next few days as there were around ~220+ runs that need(ed) manual review. As of writing, there are 175 runs left
