@nyarlathotep Yes, but BizHawk's PSX core is just a Mednafen port, and somewhere you have to draw the line. And we would not really like to allow BizHawk because of how easy it is to fake an RTA run with TAS tools.
Hey everyone.
From now on only these emulators will be accepted for PS1 speedruns:
For an easier verification process, it is highly encouraged to show the emulator window (Mednafen/XEBRA) or the core settings (RetroArch) at some point in your submission.
RetroArch's settings must match the following:
- CPU Dynarec: Disabled (Beetle Interpreter)
- Dynarec DMA/CPU Event Cycles: 128 (Default)
- CPU Frequency Scaling (Overclock): 100% (native)
- GTE Overclock: Disabled
- GPU Rasterizer Overclock: 1x (native)
- CD Loading Speed: 2x (native)
- CD Access Method: Synchronous
- PAL (European) Video Timing Override: Disabled
- Skip BIOS: Disabled
All runs on other emulators that were submitted before this date will stay on the leaderboards. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here.
EDIT 5/2022 (Mysticore): Specified the required settings for RetroArch and added the recommendation to show these settings when submitting a run on said emulator.

EDIT 4/2021 (Mysticore): Removed ePSXe from the list of accepted emulators to have consistent rules across both 3D Gex games. Existing runs done on it will remain on the leaderboards.

Wow, this game really came down from being a 5-6 hours run to a 30 minute run? Some time ago I watched some runs and checked speedrun.com because I actually thought this had great potential to be broken. But this is just awesome! Great job guys! :D
I don't run the game but I don't see how not needing a moderator to approve runs is a good thing? It seems no category needs verification.
No problem, awesome to see someone new run this game :D I might also have to try some IL runs now.
@SolidSpiderZnake Hey, I just wanted to point out that you timed your IL runs wrong. The timing starts when you skip the cutscene (with start the start button) that plays AFTER you select a mission. No worries though, I retimed all your runs and added the right time. Just keep this timing in mind for future IL runs :) And one more thing, the link of your Tut TV: 3rd Remote run doesn't work. Just send me the right link or submit it again with the right link. Cheers!
Awesome to see someone new interested in running this game! I realized the timing rules which were written in the IL rules weren't right, but I fixed it now. Rules are as follows: Timing starts from skipping the remote introduction cutscene and ends when the "Congratulations!" screen appears. For the 100 Fly coin remote the timing ends when the Reward Remote DISappears. We discussed this in the Gex Discord server and this seems to be the best timing method.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them here or in the Gex Discord server!
Another one of these comments? Who cares about using a real Amiibo or a chip? There are no differences. Also, who cares about if people pay 3 or 13 dollars? The only ones that should care is Nintendo, not the speedrun community. And the comparison to a Turbo controller doesn't fit at all. You could rather compare it to a 3rd party controller which is completely the same in all regards except being 3rd party. And last, Amiibo and No Amiibo seem to be completely separated categories since a few days. Your comment is completely needless.
Is he sniffing his armpit?
Awesome! Thanks for the answer Pac and the others! :)
Are there any site mods/admins who can answer my question?
Recently I've seen that the Discord and the Wiki were linked on the Yoshi's Island site: http://www.speedrun.com/yi
I would like to know if a mod is able to add that or if someone with a higher rank would have to do it. I would love to add the Discord and Wiki to all 3 games of the Gex series: http://www.speedrun.com/gex
"it's my responsibility to prove that my opinion is logical, it's a joke?" Of course you have to prove that your opinion is logical, that's how discussions work. You could just write your opinion but then don't be surprised if people are gonna disagree with you right of the bat.
I know Germany probably has a lot of translators already but I would gladly be a German translator.
Games need mod verification so runs get approved by trusted people. If you're a mod you should consider yourself trustful, so verifying your own run should be no problem at all, since you're also responsible for verifying other people's runs.
Uploaded this a while ago, just to put this here.
