So, picking up SM64 earlier last month oddly rekindled inside me my old love for Nintendo and Mario, which Ill admit had been quite dead since Sunshine (I know its revered in the SR community, but honestly I thought it sucked, and Galaxy lost me with motion controls...as did the Wii as a whole lol). So after watching some Odyssey runs I thought...why not?! Christmas is coming up, Ill treat myself to a new console :)
Some questions I have before committing, is the Nintendo-licensed Pro controller the best one, or are cheaper options such as the one Hori makes sufficient? I dont see myself wanting to play with the Joycons seperated, nor attached bc the joysticks are WAY too tiny. Also, does the Pro controller use the same input to the Switch as a charger would? I guess Im asking would I be able to use the Pro and charge the Switch in handheld mode at the same time lol. Ima lazy fuck, and 90% of the time I foresee me playing this in bed, by my charger.
Secondly, any other "essential" accesories you Switch owners find necessary after having one for awhile?
Just download the app Frameperfect off the GooglePlay store, its what I use for splits and timing when not on a pc, it works great. You make your own splits and can name and put whatever pics you want for them. It also has most games already in it so just search Odyssey and it should already be on there. Then simply add splits and go for it!
I would HIGHLY recommend just saving for an Everdrive...speaking from VERY recent experience (like this week recent).
Everyone on the Discord urged me to just go the Everdrive route, bc a GS would break easily due to the age, parts used, etc etc and I declined bc of the price difference. Ordered a GS 3.2 and it broke right off the bat. Menu startin buggin out and wouldn't input codes anymore, now I just have a paperweight in the shape of a GS ? I'm just gonna say, at least consider the Everdrive. I wish I had
Komrade did you not even read the initial post?! Lol
I started with my favorite game, something I already knew well, so it's always easy to sit down and play your favorite game. Lol
Idk man, I get where you're coming from as I've suffered through it at times as well. I think always striving to get better and, most importantly, learn new stuff, will also keep you interested in a game.
Not like I really need to explain this, but not everyone is at a stage in their life where they can afford to live on their own Komrade lol. And I'm currently using a crt, it's just small. An old Orion. Works surprisingly well though.
Lol derp...me too. Idk why I didn't realize this.
I'm not a mod...But I do have...um...highly excitable dreams about the day I'm finally bestowed that dubious moniker. heavy breathing intensifies
It's a long drawn out bullshit story that I already told in the Discord and don't wanna repeat here, but to summarize my family (whose room I'm staying in) doesn't want a big ass crt on the "new furniture" (tables, dressers)... evidently I need to mount an hd on the wall like a normal human or get fucked basically haha. They don't get the need for a crt bc "they're old pos's, hd is better anyways".
It's to the point I'm just gonna say fine a-holes, I'll buy my own table to put a BVM on lol. What sucks is the Vizio I was using actually ran my PS2 (playing PS1 games), but it wouldnt run the Japanese N64 for some reason.
I have been, I'm just meaning that then when trying to implement that learning in an actual run I mess up alot bc thinking of the camera isn't intuitive for me :/
I had that dumbass glitch happen in Resident Evil 2 where Dog Birkin can grab you above the tubes and get you stuck above the level haha. Such bullshit. I'd say it counts as RNG bc hes grabbed me before up there and I didnt end up stuck lol.
Asking questions in the discord has helped ALOT. Went from fucking up CLess a million tries in like 2 hrs to asking for help in the discord and BlueBob responded immediately and I got CLess first try after that. Haha
My main hurdle is still camera angles...I don't understand when to use them and it's affecting my ability to do practically all things :/
I was specifically wondering about PS1 to N64 bc it's for RE2, which I've only ever played using a PS1/2 Controller, and I've heard the Dpad SUCKS for RE2 on N64 haha. And that the GCN controller isn't much better...possibly worse lol
Do these exist? Im interested in running RE2 on my recently bought JAP 64, but finding it doubtful I'll have much success on a regular N64 controller. Any input is appreciated!
I understand you didn't list this type of game in your preferred types, but I always strongly suggest Resident Evil 2 on any platform it's on. The glitches/timesaves aren't so massive they skip entire sections (in fact, you still play every area), yet they still provide the satisfaction of performing special tricks normal "casual" gamers don't know, and the Leon A scenario is easy to learn and memorize. And if you want less than one hour, the PC and GCN versions offer that. The movement, while not necessarily "fluid" like Mario64 is still beautiful in it's own way, and in time you'll feel accomplished getting Leon and Claire to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Consider this game, really.
That's why I used the term "Superman lunge" above lol. Misty seems to be able to make some highly impressive grabs even when she's far away, so toeing the line as close as the clip above is too daring for the likes of me haha. I give every Misty her due space ?
On the times Leon got snagged on her I can't believe she didn't grab him lol. Like wth, I just know if that was me she'd Superman lunge at me and that'd be that ?
What I do here that I'm comfortable with is run to the wall and squeeze between the male zombie and lamppost. Maybe a .75-1 second loss but I accept it.
Figured them out today! I was letting go of Z like an idiot haha. Can clip through the 50-Star door consistently now. :)
I was put off by 16-Star bc I can't do blj's :( I've never been able to do even one, and Idk wth I'm doing wrong. And since I don't have a pc right now I can't capture to show anyone what I'm doing. :/
Hey gang, had a question about the DC times. The top times are all just above an hour in length, and I'm wondering why that is? You cant skip doors or cut scenes, so how is it that the DC top times are like 7-8 mins faster than PS times? Does the DC load that much faster? Bc I had read it actually loads slower than a PS1, so PS2 times should be much quicker then, so what gives? Thanks in advance for any info, looking to start running a second version soon, and I'm compiling info to make a decision soon.
