I was told that someone spread a rumor that I can only PB NG+ because I play 10 hours every day resetting for battle counts. Unfortunately, they misread me saying that I played for a total of 10 hours to PB, and they misunderstood that my battle count does not include the elite "miniboss" that is required halfway through each area. So to give hope to my fellow doomer runners, I thought I would explain that battle count probably matters less than you think. When you can one-round battles, they don't lose too much time. There are many more factors that go into getting fast times such as physical execution, decision-making, deck build, and even knowing when to reset to maximize attempts (like in Minecraft runs). This is good news, since it means that PBing can happen through improved skill rather than rolling for perfect RNG. I'm going to give this example with the utmost respect possible: my NG+ PB has 2 more battles than the 2nd fastest run.
To give another example, here is my attempt session from today. I switched over from only Any% attempts and within 1 hour, I got a 22:44 with 5/4/4 battle count (7/6/6 total). This run was also definitely PBable if I had not gotten bad RNG and pulled the Mikan Badge.
I'm not posting this to attack the person who talked down to me. I just hope that going forward, we can be nice to each other and celebrate each other's personal accomplishments!
Edit: DLC categories need more support before they can be added. Please leave a reply if this interests you!
DLC categories could be a good addition to spice up the leaderboards since there's only 3 categories right now. The Traditional Beauty outfit is quite OP compared to every other outfit, so it'll be interesting to see how these categories develop using other outfits.
Only currently released DLC should be allowed. Note that there is a PS5-exclusive DLC outfit - the Toro Hat. But it's probably not good anyways since it's just Draw 4 Cards if all spells + Shishinoshin badge.
Categories:
Mirror World NG+ (DLC Characters):
The interesting thing about this one is that the final boss is CM Yohane instead of the Mirror. The potentially good characters are You (+1 atk, def, draw) and Chika (+1 energy). DLC characters also have access to a new Yohane summon, with CYaRon's being +2 Energy and +2 Draw.
Mirror World NG+ (DLC Outfits):
Nightwicked Night is probably the best outfit; it gives +2 energy when HP <30% and lets you spend 2 HP to fade a card. There's also an outfit to reduce shop prices and one that starts with Dragonfly Return, a pretty good attack card.
Any% (DLC Outfits):
tbh i don't really care about this, but you can add this so we have comprehensive DLC categories
Suggestion 2: Run Variables
Another great way to introduce variety to the leaderboards is Run Variables. When submitting a run, you now specify which Deck Type (Bal/Power) and which Character (DLC only). If runners submit 2 runs with different Deck Type or Character, they should both show up on the board (I believe this is possible on SRC by making variables not obsolete each other). This would incentivize people to try different run styles/characters that are off-meta. I don't think outfits should be one of these variables because they can be very similar gameplay-wise, and this could lead to leaderboard bloat. DLC characters on the other hand have more unique effects, and it would be nice for each character to have representation on the leaderboard, since they are so beloved by fans.
As far as I know, there is currently no way to verify if a player cheats and uses the +1 Energy buff in a No Buffs NG+ category. Although it is extremely unlikely, it is possible for a player's starter charm to have +1 Energy as a secondary effect, which gives the same effect legitimately. This happened to me once in 500 reset runs, and it saves a lot of time.
My proposed solution is to add to the rules that runs that start Battle 1 with +1 energy must either show the entire Buffs menu before the run, or they must show the starter charm in the charms list mid-run. It only takes 5 extra seconds to open the Buffs menu after each reset, and if the runner forgets to show it, they won't be punished unless their run starts with +1 energy.
i'm like 90% sure you can't skip any animations by mashing confirm (besides the very beginning and at the start of a new area)
but i still destroy my hands mashing anyways, because i don't want to maybe lose time
About a month ago, I opened up an unofficial Celeste leaderboard with the goal of giving the chance for boardless runs to shine. Since then, we have had 40+ total submissions from some more-recognized runners in categories such as Variant Mode, True Pure Any%, All Blue Hearts, and much more! We also have Meme Categories (less serious) and a Misc Board where you can submit any runs that don't have a board! I will also take category suggestions, though they can still be rejected.
