The only way to legally get a rom of the game is to own a modified 3ds and a physical copy of the game. There's also a method for ds that involves transferring it over the internet but I kinda doubt that it still works. You'd probably be better off downloading a rom online or playing the game on official hardware
I don't think any top level runner has ever tried doing that, so it's not something we've ever really considered. Adding a time penalty wouldn't be an option either due to the way that loads in this game work.
It wasn't because of a site-wide rule change, it was because people were abusing the ruleset by submitting fake times that were slower than the video requirement barrier. The person who made this thread made another one where they admitted to doing just that in Super Mario Sunshine a few days prior
Personally I never bothered to download the save with 99 of everything either, so what I did was go to a mushroom house and get around 20 of each powerup. You don't actually need 99 of everything, but you can do the same to get 99 if you feel like you need that many. I also used a mushroom house cheat sheet that you can find somewhere online to make it easier to get items quickly
Some homebrew application called cleanrip from what I remember. It's a bit of a complicated process so I'd only recommend it if you have absolutely no other options
The way we time them is by removing every black screen or level intro banner from the run. I wouldn't recommend doing it for your own runs though since every run slower than 24:59 (or 25:00 in some cases) is timed in real-time.
This might help. Haven't done it myself though so you're on your own when it comes to installing and setting it up https://github.com/ROMaster2/LiveSplit.VideoAutoSplit
Due to personal reasons, he thought that it'd be best for him to leave the speedrunning scene
I would highly recommend joining the NSMBW Speedrunning Discord. There's a ton of resources in there that could help you learn
There's a pretty big difference between modding/emulating a game from 19 years ago and doing the same for a game that came out 3 years ago. Those two things aren't comparable at all lol
in the search bar, I found 12 different accounts that link to random websites, have essentially the same name and have no runs on their profile. https://imgur.com/gallery/etPn3zt
This setup works pretty well for me
With the current rulesets: -Emu is allowed for NSMBDS -VC is allowed for NSMBW and NSMBDS -NSMBU and NSLU can be played on the deluxe version -NSMB2 needs to be played on some sort of 3ds.
A suggestion I have is to give verifiers the ability to "automatically verify runs" for runs that aren't their own. It's kind of a hassle having to resubmit every single run you have to edit, go to the runs awaiting verification tab, then verify it. If that's too hard to implement, I'd suggest just giving verifiers the ability to automatically verify every run since in most of the communities that even appoint verifiers, self-verification is a big no-no.
Requesting the removal of Ongnissim from Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii. Most of the mods are pretty inactive (online once a month at best), but he's the worst out of all of them. Both of his contacts haven't been used in a very long time, so I have no way to get him to remove himself.
it'd definitely be faster, but I'm not sure if multiplayer is allowed for 99 lives
After a few days of discussion, we've determined that the majority of the community wants video required for all future runs. Because of that, all runs from August 12th, 2020 onward require a video. We've determined that it's best to leave runs from before that date alone.
