I would LOVE to know more about this run because this game is jank as fuck
I also agree with Mamiyachan and Stephen! Great ideas!
No, Any% Glitchless should be the main category.
The JP/Translations should be parameters, with the main categories split as: Any% Glitchless. Any% (no memory corruption [AKA generator skip]) Any% (memory corruption)
Feel free to throw me a sword since I seem to be the only runner these days and I'll do it.
I made a discord
I expect to be one of the only people using it at the moment since I'm the only active runner, but it'll be a place where I can post my research and timings for various strategies. Feel free to join and ask questions! And mods can add to discord tab on src.
I just meant two leaderboards: any% and glitchless. Perhaps skip dynamo can be a 3rd if anyone besides me (or fattninja?) really cares to try and beat the glitchless time with it.
As for versions: if both English versions are slower (I assume this is true I don't know for sure) I'm not sure there's enough active runners to warrant anything more than a column on the LB (so we dont have 6 or even 9 categories), but I don't want people to feel punished for not learning the Japanese version. I'll leave that for mods to decide. If I have time Thursday night I'll do some rough timings of the text differences for both US translations.
I will be looking into this tonight since I see yet another run inching closer to sub 1 hour without it. I wonder if perhaps it would be good to grind fire ghosts in the area after the ladder for a few levels instead of going directly downstairs. I'm not certain, but I feel like having the levels and being strong enough to one or two-turn most encounters in the game might be faster than the ~9 minutes "saved" by generator skip, followed by having to grind to meet the level gate requirements... Would love especially to hear TheSiege's thoughts.
Splits and deltas for comparison's sake between Rane's 1:04:16 (without) and my 1:05:56 (with). My PB has some mistakes and poor luck in it, so take this with a grain of salt.
Dynamo Skip Room - 11:54 (without) - 4:12 (with) Δ 7:42 Courtyard IN - 18:26 - 9:45 Δ 8:41 Low Key - 22:00 - 14:08 Δ 8:08 Basement IN - 25:24 - 17:48 Δ 7:36 Diary Key - 28:38 - 23:12 Δ 5:26 2Key - 34:13 - 29:36 Δ 4:37 Yamamura Death - 43:18 - 35:19 Δ 7:59 Projector Stairs - 49:00 - 49:19 Δ +:19 Coffin (Level 16) - 1:00:22 - 58:32 Δ 1:50 Mamiya (end) - 1:04:16 - 1:05:58 Δ +1:42
There are some factors like not having to set up the skip again in order to go get the Diary/Tool for the final boss battle, having to carry around the mallet all game just to use it to go get the one projector slide... I'm not so sure this skip actually saves time without insane luck, but I'm not really sure how to go about testing since there's so many different factors.
marx skip? If it's the skip that's only possible on zsnes or other emulator specific glitches then no, it is not allowed.
ah ok thanks for the quick reply. Do characters have a set group of cabins they can spawn in on a new day or is it always the same cabin depending on the day or what?
I also heard the first pink frame, but I don't usually try to go for it and will just hit the start button at random intervals after resetting the console hoping for good mark or chrissy rng
I went for it a bit and never got it myself, either
what path does Jason take in the upper woods? If I spawn on day 3 and go into the woods anticipating to run into him, what path should i take?
Another question I have is, between the (actual) entrance to the cave and the last cave cabin, Jason seems to take a long time to move, and I've never been able to encounter him in between those two entrances, is it possible? I find myself just waiting outside the cave area for him and wiggling back and forth.
Lastly, when is it optimal to give the weapon to Laura?
How difficult/time consuming would it be to implement a system where you can add a PB time to your sr.com profile and have it hyperlink to joka's website (or deertier, dkcwiki etc)? Instead of hoping that someone finds the tiny ass 'view rules' button which only then opens a window w/ the hyperlink, or having a half-complete leaderboard with names that don't link to profiles, submitting runs on peoples' behalf (they don't like that usually), having the first place time be done by the legendary "world record." I don't see why it can't be a thing where you search X3 on sr.com and all that comes up is a link to the already established LB.
whatever is done it can't be this, and I would certainly rather a trusted LB mod from mmrta handle it should it even come to sr.com (which i personally don't believe it should)
I have a set but they only work in bizhawk (version 1.11.4) and they don't include the Arena or Gourmet Race. I also don't have any directly before mixes or pool skip because I prefer to practice precise stuff on console. Keep in mind I made these for me, so they're mostly in spots I wanted to improve upon/derust when I made them. Save state slot 10 is your flex state, I left them blank so you can use it to practice individual spots.
Done. We don't really have a comparison for either virtual console platform so we just put it up with the snes times because we're lazy
You can beat MK without a power. I don't see how you'd do the arena in a low% run though :p
Go for it mate more people playing the game fast is never a bad thing
Countdown69/Countdown42 on twitch/irc respectively. I'm too lazy to make a tutorial and also nobody is currently running this game but most of the strats in the WR video are things that I fleshed out after the other two runners stopped playing, so if you've got the Plok itch hit me up I have all the info you need.
