I think the way that accommodates the most situations is to have the 3 main categories be 2 Player, 3 Player, and 4 Player. Then each of those gets a category With CPU, and Without CPU. No matter how many players, With and Without CPU fundamentally changes how the run works. I think with it set up this way, this encourages any amount of players, with or without CPU, and gives it a category that makes sense. The only thing that this structure doesn't really account for is a RNG manipulated run; example here Maybe this would be a flag for each individual run? Yet at the same time, RNG manip changes the run more than anything discussed so far. So not really sure what to do with that.

Hello. I understand there's a precedent for this, but I don’t think the way the categories are for this game make sense to me. If you do a solo 2 Player run w/o AI, it’s the w/o AI category, but if you do a co-op 2 Player run w/o AI, it’s a different category, even though the run is the same? Similarly, if I do a solo run with 2 AI, is that still Any%? What if I have 1 human with me, and an AI, is that Any%, or 3-Player Co-Op? To me, it would make more sense to have 2, 3, and 4 player categories, then differentiating if AI is used or not. This isn’t a demand, just trying to start a conversation about it! Thank you for your time in advance.

Hello everyone. I've started doing runs of this game for fun, and it's been very fun. I just completed my second full game NG+ RTA, coming in at 3:06. I'll be submitting them soon for everyone to see. I've been playing on the Steam version. I've noticed that it seems you can skip cutscenes faster on console than on Steam, which are effectively the loads for the game. This tells me that for full game runs, console is probably the faster option by a minute or two. I just bought the Xbox 360 version of the game to verify this. The US PS3 is very expensive, but not the JP version, so I might get that as well if I feel like it. Hope to see some runs from more people. In the meantime, I have my eyes set on beating the 2:58 that doesn't have video :)

All characters operate the exact same as far as I know, so I think it'd be kind of silly to have that.

Input display for PS1 and PS2 console is extremely difficult. It requires writing custom code, timings, packet sniffing, etc. I wish it was as easy as it is for older consoles, but it's sadly not the case.

Hi there. I just verified my last run for this game. I will be removed from the mod team shortly. If I'm being honest with you, I never wanted ILs on this leaderboard. Scott added ILs without asking anyone. I don't think this is a good reason for not verifying the ILs, but it's all I have an I apologize. I would try to get in contact with him. I do apologize for the delay.

I will add an "All Levels" category. I only call it All Levels because that's what SMB2 calls it, and I'd like to keep it consistent. I look forward to seeing your runs.

Thanks for your answer. I would suggest adding this to the rule set for the game.

After watching the run, I have no reservations to making an All Levels category. My only concern is that the run did not end on the Reptar level. My issue with this is, with not finishing the level on Reptar, you would then have to come up with at least two different end points to an All Levels run, instead of just the normal Any% one. Is there a reason you did Diapies of Thunder last? It would also make sense to me that the run would be faster if you ended on the Reptar level, as there are a bit loads you don't have to go through normally.

Get back to me, so we can make the rules concrete, and I have no problem adding this category to the leaderboard.

Hey, sorry for the late response. On paper, I don't have a problem adding this category. Let me watch your run and see what this category adds to the table, and I'll get back to you soon. Also congrats on beating my Any% time, that's pretty crazy!

This run uses IGT, but there seem to be no specification of the run to be completed in SS. Could I get some clarification on the rules in terms of this topic?

  1. I will fix this immediately.

  2. I agree with this. Do you have a suggestion for the final split time?

  3. While I always would suggesting to consider putting your model number in the comments for a run, I don't think it is worth adding labels to on the leaderboard personally.

As of 21/3/2017, this leaderboard will for now on be "Bishi Bashi Special 2". Bishi Bashi Special will be its own separate leaderboard. If you have any questions feel free to reply to this thread or contact me on Twitter.

Virginia, USAsk84uhlivin7 years ago

As you all may know, the PAL release of Bishi Bashi Special consists of Bishi Bashi Special 1 and 2. Since these runs are drastically different, I was wondering what your thoughts were on putting them into two different leaderboards. I'm sure most of you all haven't ran Bishi Bashi Special 1, so if you have any questions about it, please let me know. The biggest difference is that the run is done with in-game time, rather than RTA, so putting both runs on the same leaderboard would get quite messy.

Otherwise, feel free to post your thoughts. I'd like to know runners' thoughts before I do anything.

Loading times on emulator are drastically faster than on a PSP. They can't be compared together, therefore, they are separate categories.

Virginia, USAsk84uhlivin7 years ago

I will adjust the times sometime in the next few days for this, and all games for a starting time of first input. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

At this point, I'd say it's okay. Most communities are allowing it, and SSDs are something pretty much anyone can get access to. We'll see what Sanju and coooper say, but I'd say go for it. Thanks for asking.

I don't disagree with anything you said at all! It's just something to remember. Of course I'd rather it be earlier with my situation, but your logic is 100% just. I just thought I'd just voice a different perspective, and I just happened to be browsing here, so I thought I'd drop a line :)

As someone who is attending from America, every day, I get more anxious on having to make last minute decisions (money, taking off from work, flights, housing, etc.) depending on whether or not my game(s) will get in. Just something to consider with when you announce your cuts, because the sooner I know if I'm going or not, the sooner I'll know how much money I'll need and what I'll have to do to make arrangements. Just please keep this in mind, I hope for a successful ESA2016!
