Best way to record PS1 (PS2) playthrough?

No offense to the game, but I didn't realize NFS III: Hot Pursuit was a competitive enough game to require playthrough video uploads. I got what would have been a #3 time on Knockout Beginner New Game (Arcade), but didn't record it, just timed it per rules with my phone.

I just play the game on a PS2 through my TV. What's the easiest way to record? Setting up my phone to point at the TV screen and recording that?

Also is playing on PS2 emulation or not? I figured not, since a PS2 is full hardware emulation of a PS1, it shouldn't load or play anything quicker than an actual PS1 would?

99% games on speedrun.com, competetive or not, require video proof for every run. It's just common sense no vid no did and who knows how much someone cheated or not.

If you can get a clear recording of the screen with your phone then it's gonna be enough as long as everything is visible, but the easiest way is to buy any capture card which you connect to PC and add as a source in OBS, I reckon the cheapest ones are like 20$ at best and they still give you a decent enough recording.

Dude i just flim with my phone. As long as it's clearly watchable it's all good. But expecting a run to be approved without video is ridiculous

I believe most modern TVs have an option to record what you see onto USB drive.

^ Maybe I'll try that. I recorded one just now, poverty spec mode propping up my iPhone SE 2nd gen while it records the TV screen at 720p 30fps. 34:00, maybe I'll upload and see if I catch the bug.

^ Doing my part to help! lol

Uploaded a 59:37 on Hometown, and days later off camera got my PB to 59:12. Would love to crack into the 58's. I like the longer knockout category, but long load times on PS compared to PC emulators means the PS times will unfortunately never be competitive. That disadvantage doesn't exist for "hot lap" records, which is nice.

Also uploaded two would-be 1st place times on Country Woods and Rocky Pass, awaiting verification. Kind of wish there was a competitive category for single track laps that didn't allow the bonus car, or didn't allow the unlockable cars at all. But I suppose there may need to be more than 20 people ever running this game to go for more and wider categories.
