btw I actually start finding this out at around 1:20 or so
so the gist of it is play though the game on a new save file, then exit out of the chapter when the level to level cutscene is happening on the selected level that you want, then delete the save file and create a new one, then bam the level is unlocked instantly from the start (the levels have to be in the time frame of the opening cutscene in chapter one). (from what I know so far this only works on chapter one)
Amazing find! We could in theory use this to skip straight to "Angler" in Any% runs, though the setup is a bit tedious (skipping levels beforehand makes it faster). I've let other runners know and we'll see what to do with it.
Crazy
(And there is a discord since you asked in the video. For speedrunning we mostly use #goo2-records-and-speedrunning on the GooFans Discord thats linked to here on speedrun.com)
Yeah, unfortunately (depending on your view) we've decided to ban this glitch in the main Any% category because of its tedious setup. We might allow it in a separate category if there's interest, similar to how the original game has a True Any% category allowing all skips and glitches.
Personally my reasoning against it has nothing to do with it being "tedious". The glitch essentially relies on transferring save data from a file that exists before the run into the new file, which is generally never allowed in standard any% runs because you're completing parts of the 'run' before the timer starts (and doing this setup after the timer starts would be slower than not doing it). We could still have a "new game plus" category for it, but it's tedious and just not different enough to really have appeal IMO.
Yeah, being tedious was just one of the reasons we mostly banned it. I think it's analogous to the cutscene skips glitch in the original game (version 1.3) which also required a separate save file (according to my understanding, I don't know the details).
