is 2 player only allowed for the 2 player category? or could i do 100% with a second player, for example.
everything you need to know is in rules on the main leaderboards page
@MarioMan47 it's barely a run if it just consists of the 3 stars though, it just seems too arbitrary to have it's own category.
0 star file is only possible if you get a key iirc but that would most likely not be allowed
maybe as a silly extension category but it sounds way too cutscene heavy and very little actual gameplay..
everybody who has even tried running any of these games could get a great time pretty easily and if you're trying to save individual frames it would be a lot of resetting and watching cutscenes as i said.
personally i would do this as a race like 2 or 3 times then never again, but fun idea!
this might be incorrect but i'm pretty sure every single pipe is programmed to have a piranha plant in it, with the exception of 1-1.
so if there's no piranha, you despawned it in your RTAs and just need to implement that into your TASes
whenever you're ready for runs just be sure to switch to an accepted platform. have fun and gl with your future runs :3
@SpeedIn continue practising on G&W if you like but until further notice it's very unlikely to get it's own category. try Nestopia or FCEUX, they are valid emus for leaderboards.
you aren't going to be a god with emulator on your first few attempts. every platform has something different about it that you'll have to get used to. it would be best to play on a wired keyboard and low response time monitor so you can minimize input delay, if that's an issue for you.
emu is allowed and G&W currently is not. if you'd like to have your runs verified i would suggest playing and practising on emu since it's free and you can get easier access to different tools such as practise roms.
if you need tutorials on how to play the game check the guides section and resources section on the smb1 leaderboard page
i had this same issue before. i'm pretty sure if you're using any loader outside of the disc channel it does speed up load times, so you can't use unofficial discs or load the ROM from usb/sd.
you can always practise and go for runs, just can't submit them to the leaderboards. if you got some money to spend, sunshine discs are dropping in price since 3D All-Stars was released so you should be able to find them pretty cheap on ebay. i bought my NTSC-J one for like 20 euro.
just because you personally believe they are the same does not verify that the versions are identical. comparing 370 on the in-game timer is no use since you can get 370 on any speed/framerate, and that's only 1-1.
i don't know the details, but i assure you if the mods are suspicious of it, it's something that will have to be looked into. they know more about the game than any of us, that's why they're mods.
just try playing on a different platform, i would go with emulator.
maybe you should leave the names of clips you used in the description, so the runners don't eat you. i enjoyed it a lot!
8-4 doesn't have framerules. you can start a few frames before the 400 appears
in my opinion, a good category extension is one that requires people to create unique routing specifically for that category. for example, All Signs is a pointless category, but it has a fun route and people do somewhat care about it/appreciate it. it would just create more work for the mods to do this.
playing emu on anything other than pc is still emulation, i wouldn't call it a brand new category.
just read the rules. it says "All times require a video on a publicly visible site,". splits alone will not be enough to verify your run.
