One way to do it would be to say no temporary power-ups since they don't transfer to the next level you play.
Do you guys think we should side on making the run easier so more people can complete it? Or side on making it fall more in line with any% and luigi any% where boost blocks are banned.
I wouldn't mind hanging out in a discord server if it's a chat thing. Can't stream the game at the moment though.

Oh did everyone vote on doing start from small mario? Do we have the rules posted somewhere? I can remove all the ILs if that's the case.
Also, every level in the game is beatable with all 3 star coins from starting small, so there wouldn't be any exceptions in that case. The second coin you just jump on the paratroopa.
Haha interesting, when new super mario bros wii was being run awhile back they always started with file select except for SDA submissions. I guess they changed their mind. Considering there's 20+ runs already I would suggest just using the intro time to play pokemon go or something.
Personally I think speedruns look weird when they don't start from a new file but I understand where you're coming from.

i think the game is simple enough where a tutorial wouldn't have much to explain besides like jump here or jump there etc. there's no glitches or anything used, and the only trick i can think of is if you jump up in bowser's face at the start of the final battle he'll do a faster animation and you can hit him sooner
Yeah this is basically what i was worried about with this approach. No one wants to calculate time without loads unless they have a WR and the calculations now are not even accurate, just somewhat close.

The reason I lean more towards IGT is we barely have any submissions for ILs and i think IGT is a much lower barrier to entry than having to time your run out yourself, especially on things like first input to first frame touching the flag.
it'd be cool if we could add a timer like they do in the challenge mode with a hack or something.
anyway i think both arguments have their merits. i think using IGT is fine for now, and has worked alright for the NSMBDS community.

It'd be cool if there was a way to submit runs as anonymous if the user didn't want to take credit for them. As far as I'm concerned I'd just add every run to the site since it's just links, and if a user didn't want their run to be linked to then it would be unlisted.
I'm fine with using IGT due to convenience for ILs, but some levels will have faster IGT by going through tubes when they're actually slower in real time.
IGT has its own issues with it only being done to the second, and levels with doors or tubes would have an advantage
