I'll gladly sweep the level leaderboard :)
The only requirements for 16 star are that you beat the game without using SBLJ. You aren't forced to do anything else. The only star that's required is the submarine star in dire dire docks. The other stars you see people get are just the fastest ones to get Mips to spawn. You can be as creative with the routing as you like, but the community knows which stars are the fastest. Hopefully that helps!
@Rkool21 a 0.16% difference in game speed is impossible to feel while playing. It's just as easy/hard to make jumps on NES as Switch (speaking as someone who's run on both). The NES is objectively better since it runs slightly faster. You save about 0.5 seconds over the run. There's also no input delay on NES so that's good too.
@Mars02 I think you're misunderstanding. The bot doesn't actually verify any runs. He said it's just auto-rejecting ones that filled out the submission form incorrectly so that mods don't need to waste time on those. Mods still look at and physically verify every run from what I understand.
This is certainly not faster. It's true that the individual stars you're talking about are faster than things like whomp king and fortress, but you're forgetting that it takes time to get to the courses and ESPECIALLY open star doors. getting to and entering BoB, CCM, Slide, and BitDW is unbelievably slower than LBLJ, and you'd certainly be better off just getting 7 stars in whomps for no LBLJ. Also, doing HMC before LLL loses time to castle movement, since you have to pass LLL to go to HMC from SSL. SSL to LLL to HMC is the fastest route.
The upstairs of the castle doesn't load unless you open the door with the key from Bowser in the Fire Sea. Just clipping through that door isn't enough. You need to do Bowser in the Fire Sea, which means you need to get to basement somehow, and the only viable way for humans to do that is with the key from Bowser in the Dark World.
It's also that so much time and practice was invested into lag reduction strategies. Just removing those by running on different unoriginal hardware takes a lot out of the run. So yeah, N64 will always be the main category
So for over a year the world record was held by a runner named Ghebz. Now it seems to have disappeared, as well as his profile on this website. His youtube channel still exists, but most of the videos have been deleted. I've DM'd him but he hasn't responded. Anyone know what happened?
I take it you weren't recording the run where this bug happened?
Also, was this played on console or emulator?
Agreed, I get lots of lag on DS when fighting 3 skeletons at once
As you see in my latest run, shooting a golden barrier makes a lot of debris fly everywhere, which damages the boss from a great distance without ever having to really engage with it. This saves a lot of time for 3 out of the 4.
I've also found that being exceptionally close to them can cause them to not shoot, but this has been very inconsistent.
Post any ideas you have for saving time on bosses and/or making the fights safer.
