So I've uploaded a run with the time as 5:05. It is yet to be approved at the time of writing this so I'll just explain how I did it.

Some while ago, when I was not speedrunning this game, I tried the option of creating a manual squad instead of picking the auto option. This option is only available whilst you opt for a test series and not for the "play now" option. I discovered that all players having good attributes have a duplicate player (with a similar name) with similar attributes as them. My theory regarding this is that EA must've created these players when they hadn't got the licensing rights for the AUS, ENG, NZ and RSA teams. When they got the rights, they did not remove these players.

You can play these players though by manually selecting them. They are in-game players after all. So for this run, I picked up Warne and "Warren" instead of the combination of Warne and MacGill. I got extremely lucky though that I got a wet pitch first-up since you cannot control the pitch and weather conditions in the test series scenario. Also, I had no idea that Zimbabwe has all 10 right-handed players which made it easy to dismiss them.

This was my first run while trying this and I got 5:05 which honestly can still be improved. With a bit of luck, we are looking at a sub 5:00 run in this category.

Hello everyone. I'm Tanmay and I've recently begun to speedrun this game after seeing a Reddit post about it. I've been playing this game on and off since the last 10-11 years now but only seen it from a speedrunning angle from a week or so.

Coming to a speedrunning POV, I think this way is the best method to do it now.

  1. Choose your team as Australia :

I've tried running the game only as India and Australia till now but Australia seems like a better option as Warne and McGill give you a good amount of control on the ball. I don't know if there's a better spin duo in the game.

  1. Choosing the opposition as Canada :

Canada has all 11 right-handed batsmen. Left-handed batsman seem a bit difficult to get out (at least to me) so having a team full of right handers is better. Also Canada is pretty weak as well so probably a bit easier to dismiss the team.

  1. Setting Pitch conditions as Wet/Damp :

I don't know if the bounce of a wet or a damp pitch varies, they seem pretty same to be at first inspection. If there's a difference, please let me know. Also, not aware if overhead conditions play any role on the bounce.

  1. Choose to bowl/ Let the opposition bat :

Either you win the toss and bowl or let the opposition bat first up. On the rare occasion the opposite team decides to bowl, I just reset the game. Also, winning or losing the toss doesn't have any impact on you getting the control of the player. It's usually about 30 seconds before you get control of the player in any situation.

  1. Try to get batsmen bowled :

LBWs take up more time as the screen shows the umpire (often pauses before giving it out) and the player appealing as well. Bowled dismissals save you some amount of time. For the last wicket i.e. the 20th dismissal, getting the batsmen LBW seems to save a bit of time as the screen doesn't show the umpire for the last wicket.

  1. Declare :

Hitting a six and declaring immediately seems like the fastest way to finish your batting innings.

A perfect inning i.e. getting 20 wickets in 20 balls still eludes me, it's achievable with a bit of practice and luck. If there's any advice or technique you have, share it as well.

Can anyone explain to me why the autoplay after 10 ball rule exists? Seems such an arbitrary rule to implement. Also, why is declaration (for tests) considered to be autoplay?

Autoplay is allowing the computer to take control of the game, whereas in test matches when declaring at no point is the computer controlling the game.
