Yeah absolutely weird, I comment about it in the description of the video but to expand it here: it is difficult to know EXACTLY what happen, in this civilization there is NO option of playing duel of 2 civilizations, at all, simply you can't... so the only RATIONAL hipothesis for me is that the third civ spawned in the south pole, trapped, and didn't settle (happened to me 1 time, check the YT channel) and then when the other stablished civ died the game didn't detect any other enemy city alive and gave me the win... because it happens something analogous to you as human player: if you start with 1 or 2 settlers when both of them die you lose the game first, but once you found or just even conquer 1 city, cities gain priority, and if that city falls even the next turn you conquered it, you lose the game even with your 2 original settlers alive and kicking... so, for me it is that... but even if it is a "game error", neither of them fall into a "glitch" nor a "exploit" concepts, per se... thus no need to consider a different category... and finally i could add that this time -while very difficult- is hipotetically still beatable with other combinations of huge RNG, since deity% is very similar in operation to the any% category but with more hard battle RNG and faster development of enemy civs, so the more minutes you take the better battle RNG you'll need to end the run...
GG. For clarity, in further runs record the menu and/or moment previous to the scenario speedrunned.
Well, there are some problems running the game in the last windows versions but that can be manageable... however, with the civilization 2 finally running in my notebook i had some issues recording the runs...
My OBS captures the game not as a "game" but as a "window" and when I beat the game for some reason it doesn't capture the video in full screen that arises... the music is captured but visually freezes in the last frame of the game...
Is the run valid? I guess so as 4th place run but I understand objections if I go for podium runs (sub 1min runs seem a bit too much, maybe I'll stop at 3rd place run)...
EDIT: of course, anyone know how to fix this??????
I played this classic game of my childhood these last weeks and decided to throw a speedrun before leaving it... surprised again no more runs float around since the inception of the leaderboard...
I think the categories can be updated to ask for different things, instead of two categories for the time factor, with deaths or deathless (which seems kinda possible but I doubt someone will put the grind to do it). So as this:
- Any%/100% ---> Actual recruits%, normal full run beating the game with or without deaths, with or without saves/passwords. Pure time rules. As the run of Anko or mine recently.
(never knew this game had saves, my cartridge back then and the one I emulated now both are with passwords)
-
Recruits% ---> Full normal run but wins he who beats the game with more recruits in his last phase screen, previous to beat the game. No passwords/loads allowed. Then just in case of draw, up the fastest.
-
Try again% ---> Full normal run but wins he who had less Try Agains during his run (doesn't matter if for death or surrender). Password/loads allowed if runner like it. Then in case of draw, up the fastest.
One same run can be used for various categories but it's up to the runner to declare it, attain to rules and put the data and/or time stamps to help the modding.
While the runs will still be long, I think this will give more options to run for at least.
Well, I finally beat all Blue Level 3 RTA and triggered credits of the game, apparently for the first time ever done on video/stream... so I'll explain some minor changes done from this point of view:
*Blue levels 1 and 2 doesn't trigger credits nor say "the end", so even their "bad ending" status is debatable at least... thus I changed them to just Blue Level% and that's it, anyone can take of that what they will...
*Also, a Blue level 1 full campaign% is definitely RTA viable... I started mapping the run and it do will have highly probable annoying segments when the RNG decides to turn weirdly adverse and crush strats or even scenarios... but the speedrun is possible and prolly can be around the 7/8 hour mark...
*I kinda understand now Captain Ninja that the win% is definetely not the most "representative" category of this game... but still has a point to exist, so lets leave it but just moved out of the front...
*Also in this field, the Raw Any% category is the most fresh and representative of the game: it goes directly into getting the credits and while it last its due time, stil isn't that large to be unrunnable, and by now has a lot of room for diverse strats and improvements...
So, future:
If/when more runs of Win% arise (lets say at least 2 or 3 more), miliseconds can be aggregated (mainly for use in this category and no much more)
If/when someone drops a full blue level run, that category should be moved if not to the forefront, second at least...
That's it
Well that, I finished BL 1 full campaign and tested some next blue levels scenarios and they seem pretty over the top, some seems kinda beatable (not that i could) but others are simply insane...
Are there any proof somewhere of someone beating levels of them??
-- o --
Also, i think the any% category as it is now should be changed, it is kinda a "100%" or full campaign the requisites... any% as in other games "fastest way to get the credits in any form" should be just put the password of Blue Level 3 last scenario and beat it...
Blue Level 1 and 2 don't give you credits apparently, they are kinda just "bad endings"...
Other interesting option could be put "Blue Level 1 any%", "Blue Level 2 any%" and "Blue Level 3 any%" to just put the passwords and beat the last scenarios to trigger their endings...
Whatever path is taken, any% as it is now is unrunable for the brutal duration and not only human gameplay errors but RNG crushing many scenarios and time.
Should be its own category definitely...
At first sight: different load times, less glitches, less exploits... probably more differences floating around...
Thought about running a PS1 version, it's the only one I've played back then, but then moved to other stuff though...
Strong disagree with the rejection... most of my non-played RTA time is in taking notes of the final racing times (no automatic splits) and the loading times of console (when I mostly drink), all video scenes are cut straight or within seconds... good luck finding a PS level 4 run being sub-36 RTA for being "morally acceptable" speedrun...
I welcomed the recent incorporation of this category this year in Road Rash 2, which was also put in Road Rash 1 of genesis...
I think it's fun and incorporates the other side of this game, which is the beatings and forced crashes of other bikers while racing (and qualifying)...
I don't know what the mods think of opening this category here... I think we can almost copy paste the rules of RR2 with interesting results, maybe just using the full races time (instead of cutting when the last KO arrives) since there's no IGT available inside the races...
If mods like the idea I can work a run (in PS version) to start the category...
Moved to Level 4, without luck yet... if my memory serves right this run had mediocres City and Pacific, so definitely on the table to be beaten... ;)
Thanks for the feedback guys, I will explore JwFu PC run before venturing a bit more... if I still struggle maybe will just move to do something in Level 3 or 4, hopefully more human categories haha
I grinded a couple days this level until I took notice that, unlike Big Game mode, Trash Mode ask you to not wreck or be busted at all because you lose all qualifications... which as any RR player knows, in Level 5 is something insane to ask...
In YT I found no videos of anyone beating it...
Unless I'm missing some key strat, which I doubt, I think this is only RTA viable with Game Shark cheats or further with save states...
Thoughts?
El speedrunner GOAT del país. Vamo perrito
I agree my point is in a problem, I don't want to contest the WR but do suggest game audio IS kinda standard in most games speedruns nowadays... and here it's interesting for a racing game with many RNG elements and fight touches as RR is...
So well, it is what it is, just my two cents on the matter.
Hi guys, I'm not gonna contest an already verified run but isn't it weird or even sad that the best run, of the most played category, the game is in silence and it's with external music???
A shame since Road Rash 3 in particular has a top5 soundtrack of all the console I'd say... In other notorious games, as Super Metroid or Sonic 2 for example, the game's audio is absolutely mandatory for the runs...
I understand that in the grind you start to grow tired, but that comes with the territory...
Also in the other hand, I saw that with dozens of hours playing level 1, my sum of best is 13.17.9/13.18.0, doesn't even reach the WR... and 2nd place Anko's sum of best, as noted in his run, also doesn't even reach the WR... well, who knows, I'll leave it at that...
But I do suggest the game's audio be mandatory for future runs...
Hails guys, today I checked again my notes, so yes, without Buffy/Alaska and Lawson/arizona cases, I got this:
Alaska (9) : 1)Ralph 2) Slug 3) Axle 4) Rude Boy 5) Bunker 6) Kakana 7) Lesley (!) 8) Slater 9) Officer 11
Arizona (11) : 10) Ralph 11) Slug 12) Bunker 13) Rude Boy 14) Kakana 15) Buffy 16) Roz 17) Slater 18) Natasha 19) Viper 20) Axle
Hawaii (5) : 21) Ralph 22) Slug 23) Axle 24) Rude Boy 25) Kakana at 1.37.0 IGT.
Total IGT: 8.18.7 (AL 3.17.1 + AR 3.24.6 + HAW 1.37.0)
I guess Lesley/Alaska at YT 18:12 is the only "arguably" of these 25, the other 24 seem pretty straight forward... now i'm using YT frame timer between the frames of the hit (18:13) and the car crash (18:15) and it gave me 1.93 seconds... I thought it would prosper withouth even remembering the 3 secs rule haha...
Regardless of all this, a run close or sub 8.00.0 is definetely on the table...
Haha tomorrow I'll check again my notes but i believed it still was WR with lawson and buffy cases discarded (take in mind buffy i never take it into original submitted time) but Lawson out of arizona was a possibility and in my notes it ended being Alaska 9, Arizona 11 (instead of 12), Hawaii 5 at 1.37.0 (6th KO not needed) and 8.18.7 final IGT...
Could be wrong though, tomorrow I'll check it out...
Didn't I uploaded it in the Shuriken 400 category?? I'd appreciate if someone can move it over there!
Thanks, Arizona could have been a touch better and would get into top3 but I'll take it, it is what it is
