Heyo. Been routing this out the past couple weeks, but now have to completely restart the process because they have patched out the item duplication glitch.
Anyway, just letting people know that the item dupe glitch is gone, and we'll probably need to have new categories to differentiate between runs that have it, and those that don't.
Title. Is there a reason there's no True End / Calasmos category? Is it just due to lack of runs, or lack of interest?
That's an interesting question. Considering that the PS4 is waaay more powerful/faster than the PS2, I imagine we'd have to make a separate category for it, a la Final Fantasy IX's PC version.
(Sorry I didn't see this stuff earlier. I rarely ever check this game, since I've only ever seen three people run it, myself being one of them)
I'm coming for this one, too. This new route only trains up skills to +9 once (for Floral Gust, Mamudoon, Bufudyne, and Fire Breath), and does not bother with Susano-o or Odin (just runs MaZiodyne, which, while it is slower, saves 20 minutes of fusing/grinding in Cosmic Egg, more than off-setting the time loss to the two-three bosses that it's relevant against).
After this failed attempt today (mostly my own fault due to trying out untested strats and ending up with Dekaja/Dekunda/Magaon on one demon, oops), I'm confident that it should be at least 15 minutes faster than the old record. More to come soon (TM)!
Howdy. I've been thinking about running this game, but I can't seem to find any notes out there on this. Does anyone have any links to notes, or are people keeping them close to the chest?
Welp, looks like Healing Knowhow, Glacial Blast, and War Cry worked out pretty well. XD
Also, Glacial Blast over Megidola is another thing that I think is superior to the old route. It has a higher base damage (on average), and has to potential to possibly 3-6 shot a boss, as opposed to the 6-8 shots it could take with Megidola.
Submitted one today. Didn't have any way to record onto a 3DS until recently. Summer break's nearing the end, so I grabbed a webcam to record. Shitty quality, but it'll do. Hope to do another couple before break is over. WR for Neutral Any% should be pretty easy (as easy as a 9+ hour speedrun can be, that is).
I think that War Cry and Healing Knowhow are extremely powerful, cutting out any sort of need for Rakukaja, and freeing up turns for MC to attack instead of waste healing or MP-restoring items.
The question is, how to get them?
The answer is easy. Pele has Healing Knowhow, so you can fuse an extra Pele shortly before the Balor fight, then fuse her into a Thoth with Fortuna. Healing Knowhow works for Attack and Magic Mirror, too, so you can ALSO get away with having only one demon with Tetrakarn/Makarakarn.
Now, War Cry is a little more of a hassle, but still pretty easy to get. Hairy Jack (31) gets it for free. With Hairy Jack, you can use some fancy fusions to get Take-Minakata(sp?), which you can fuse into Dantalian, and later use Take-Minakata for some other useful fusions, giving you access to War Cry on at least two of your demons! Tarunda + Rakunda in one spell? Sign me up! (Full disclosure: In order to create a Hairy Jack, you do require two more demons. One is Fuxi, from the beginning dungeon, and the other is Caladrius, which you can pick up in Shinjuku as you leave to the Tower with the Angels)
Anyway, I firmly believe that War Cry and Healing Knowhow speed up quite a few fights, specifically the final few, where you never have to use healing items with the MC on Merkabah (Lucifer is is risk/reward thing, whether or not you want to gamble with your demons not recovering from confusion).
Thoughts? Or is this board dead?
I'm coming for that booty, Beef.
Neutral WR will be mine.
Oh, I think you misunderstand. I'm not advocating for using boosters for a speedrun. Quite the opposite, really. I'm just bringing up the point that, with the PC port, there could be an influx of people wanting to speedrun FFIX, but the PC speedrun will inevitably faster due to the camera panning skipping from config menu and the ability to skip cutscenes.
Yes, I'm also thinking about things like Cereth noted. Some runners have talked about auto-clickers, which also seem rather silly.
I'm not trying to create a new category, I'm trying to discuss the rules for the new category that is an inevitability.
I'm with Cereth here in that I'd argue for just FMV skips and battle transitions only, really, because those are the two major time saves that are accessible from the game itself, without using boosters or outside programs.
Again, just trying to spark discussion and possibly lay the groundwork for PC%.
So is there going to be a new category for the new Steam release? If so, what are the rules going to be?
Cutscenes are skippable by pressing confirm, and the battle camera panning can be removed in the configuration settings. Not to mention all of the silly boosters, but those seem too broken for an actual speedrun.
So, what's the verdict? PC%?
