Recently I've found a way to use in-game time in Livesplit via Sourcesplit. By using these settings (http://imgur.com/a/kQPY0) and going to Compare Against and then selecting Game Time, you will get a time that does not run during loads or when the game is paused. You will also easily be able to tell what your RTA time is (http://imgur.com/a/TDkJN). I would like to make IGT the primary time, and have RTA be secondary (only affecting leaderboard placement in the case of a tie). Current runs would not be affected but I would like to put a rule in place saying that from [insert date here] forward all submissions must have IGT. What does everyone think on this? I'm especially looking for the other mods' opinions. (IGT works on the demo and on the HL2 mod, all you have to do for that is change the name of one of the programs on the list to hl2.exe).
I would say that igt should be suggested, but not forced. There is extra work in getting the timer to work, and not everyone uses a timer in the first place. However, I do support instituting the IGT for future runs using the method given, if you can give an example video showing it being used effectively.
One problem that I will bring up though is the "with saves" categories. If the game is not timed while paused, this removes menuing time which is a big part of those runs. This also might mess with any runs that include the Serious Room in them assuming that the console pauses the game as well (or people pausing before using the console to save time). For these categories, I suggest still having both ITG and RTA, but making RTA the main timing method.
I suppose that makes sense, but you can't make RTA be the main timing in one category and make IGT the main in another.
