I like the categories on here so far, but there are obviously a lot more that could be added. Would anyone want to speedrun 100%? Should there be a "Beautiful Wife" run? Or a "Top Pirate" run? They're all possible, but I don't want to add them until people actually have a run. I only added "Wipe Out Spain" because I plan to do it asap.
So, suggest any category you like! I can't promise that I'll add it, because it needs to have sensible rules and be distinct enough from other runs.
Number 1 Pirate
Checking out the speedrun categories, I saw "Top Pirate" as empty and got excited enough to try my first official speedrun . I unfortunately did not read the "Top Pirate" rules and just got to the #1 spot on the Pirates list by hunting down the top ones as fast as possible.
I finished the run, but of course, it does not follow the current "Top Pirate" category. No worries if it doesn't sound like a good category extension.
Caribbean Conquest: Unite the Caribbean under one nation. Similar in concept to wipeout X nation however you are to deal with 3/4 nations and are more than likely going to run into a land battle with at least 1 city, would lead to run times more in between current Beautiful Wife, Any% and 126 fame, and Wipe Out Spain.
I think maybe the "beat every other pirate" category could be fun, just a quick naval battle focused category where you have to fight all the named pirates
Seems like the Top Pirate rules should be changed, which I'm happy to do, but I'd like to come to a consensus on the exact rules so the most amount of people are happy. If I'm remembering correctly, the only statistic that changes your top pirate rank is gold plundered, so you could rush to fight Montalban, earn a quick 100,000 gold, and then take out Henry Morgan to secure the #1 spot. Would everyone rather have the rules be less strict and allow for that, or have it be focused on killing the other 9 notorious pirates?
Also i do believe it should be possible to get 100k gold faster than by fighting Montalban with the use of the dutch raider glitch ( )
Defeating all 9 pirates sounds a lot cooler than accumulating gold and killing just one. There is also a lot more randomness to it, which we all love I suppose :-)
I’ve seen you have categories for defeating all the French and Spanish and I’ve recently been doing runs for defeating the Dutch too as it’s also quite a quick run like the French on 1600 start. Would a wipe out the Dutch category be possible?
maybe we should just add a whole "wipe out a nation" category and then give it 4 sub-categories for each nation?
What do you guys think about adding an "easiest difficulty" subcategory to some of the already existing ones? Playing on lower difficulties opens up new strats because you get perks such as being able to get hideout/treasures/lost relatives location from a map instantly without needing to reset for the perfect spawn, the game automatically tells you where to anchor with the hint messages, ship sailing speed is much faster etc etc.
It'd be interesting, however, from my 10 minutes of research Baron Raymondo and Marquis on Apprentice or Journeyman does not give any additional map info other than the 1 piece they usually give, in spite of the fact that the treasure maps are changed to give the full or half. Hint messages are usually a given if you have enough information. Additionally the popups from playing on Apprentice which would be the easiest difficulty and the fact that you can't choose your sword, and only get the longsword probably lowers the time a decent amount.
It'd also be apt to clarify if we mean apprentice or journeyman by easiest since apprentice limits you a decent amount and is a whole lot more hand holdy.
I can confirm that you do not get any messages for uncomplete maps. Unfortunate, rip this idea
After getting feedback for the latest news post, I've decided to implement all the changes listed. So, to reiterate:
- The "126 Fame" category now requires you to finish the career track
- I've added milliseconds to the game. You can now submit your times with milliseconds (use
