The 120 FPS cap

Hi everyone! I’ve been out for quite some time and I see that rules now require a 120 FPS limit. Is this why I see in recent runs that an actual time greatly varies from the in-game time? For example I saw a bronze checkpoint run recently of 2:23.8x with in-game time of 2:25.58. I gave it a go with in-game time of 2:24.7x with actual time being the same, where I clearly had better speed and better corners compared to posted run but somehow I’m slower? If so, why is it happening and what software should I use to limit Carbon to 120 FPS?

This is occuring due to something in the game known as a timebug. This can occur at any framerate. You can use Rivatuner to cap the game, as that is the program used by the majority of runners to cap their game. Timebug is also present on the console versions and is unfortunately an ever-present inescapable cosmic horror. :/

Yeah I’m well aware of timebug, but does it really make a 1,5 sec difference in a 2 and a half minute game? Afaik from MW 1 regular sec = 0,995 timebug sec if you grind the same track for 40 minutes and vice versa after 15 minutes, for the most part same in Carbon. I also compared the 2:23.8x run to my 2:24.7x run, where I had better speed and racing line at almost every section but somehow I’m a whole second slower. So I wanted to ask does the 120 fps affect the gaming speed?

On a few FPS thresholds (120, 170 and 300fps), the game runs at a faster speed in real time yes, we don't really know why but it does only at those specific FPS, Uncapped or capped to any other framerate will be quite a lot slower. It also applies to ProStreet (and I think also to Underground 2 but that game is natively capped to 120). Most Wanted seems to be the only Black Box game whose speed is not affected by FPS for some reason

The rule is set to 120fps cuz for a while it was the only known framerate to behave that way and people would do their runs like that, and afterwards it was discovered that 170 and 300 sped up the game even more, and as running those high framerates could be difficult for runners on weaker PCs a community vote decided to put a cap to 120fps maximum, so that we could still compete against existing runs done on 120 without making it unfair for people with too weak PCs to reach 300
