Following some investigation into the recently released Switch version of the game, it became apparent that this version would need to be a separate category from PC. The main reasons for this being:

  • The game has built in Turbo, though is much slower than what can be achieved either with Turbo or through good mashing on PC. Mashing on Switch does not work, as the max fire-rate is throttled. This slower Turbo makes many encounters more difficult, especially the Final Boss.
  • Whilst not a huge difference, Ghost can now traverse up ladders by holding up, instead of only being able to jump up. This does make Boss 2 and the Final Boss a little easier.
  • There is no in game timer, so Switch runs will need to be recorded in RTA, though would still be comparable as the PC IGT matches RTA anyway.

The Turbo change is the main driving factor here, a Switch run simply wouldn't be as fast as a PC run. That change has now been made, with the consoles becoming the main categories, and Any%/100% becoming sub-categories. All runs have been edited to reflect the change. As Switch was being added, I saw no harm in also adding an MSX category, should anyone ever want to give it a crack.
