Hello speedrunners!
It has been a while since the last post is released. In this post, I am going to talk about the adjustments of retiming method made for those categories mentioned in the title. And why we have done so.
First and foremost, the newest rule for STOPPING the timer is: *The timer ends on the first frame when the 'no one can escape+(points)' message pops up (in the bottom left of your screen), it will appear several seconds after you place the last survivor on rocket chair. (The message is shown in the PNG below)The previous rule is : *The timer ends when your character cannot move.
The reason why the previous rule is replaced by this one is that, the time of your character ‘cannot move’ is totally uncertain. It might be affected by wifi-connection, ping, etc. Moreover, further movement after you place the last survivor on rocket chair is mandatory, otherwise no one will know when did your character ‘cannot move’.
It would be much easier for all of us to retime the runs if we use the ‘no one can escape’ message as the stopping frame, because it is much more apparent than the character stop moving. It is a reliable visual cue.
Also, it would be more fair, as the message will pop up no matter you are moving or not, no matter your wifi-connection is good or not, etc.
There is another example illustrating the negative impact of using the previous rule (informed by our new mod team member Pa7rick): in his run that he was trying to retime, the character clearly moved more than it should at the end. It didn't stop moving, it kept moving in a straight line that isn't controlled by the runner. So apparently this retiming method is problematic.
That's all for now. Retiming method regarding survivor categories may also be further adjusted. Feel free to add any questions/suggestions down below in the comment section!
Happy speedrunning!
