I got the WiiU version of this game for free. I've heard it's an awesome speedrun (and the crowded leaderboard would seem to confirm that). Of course I'll casually play the WiiU version I have first, but if I decide that I like the game well enough to run it, would I be best served to buy the PC version? I know that for "serious" speedrunning (is anything we do serious?), running on PC is best if the game exists for PC (absent extraordinary cases involving platform-exclusive glitches). Would that be the case for this game too?
I would assume it makes little to no difference, on account of the game using Ingame Time. I don't know if there are any version-exclusive tricks.
Well, theres a trick in Dragon Valley that allows you to skip the boss, and in the Wii U version (which is outdated) it completely disregards the level in fullgame runs.
So if you're going to run Carol or Lilac fullgame using the boss skip, you will want to use the PC version.
I was the one guy running on the Wii U version for a while but I switched to PC for the specific reason that the update allowing a certain trick to be used in full game runs wasn't available on Wii U yet (I'm not sure if it is now since I haven't turned on the Wii U version in a while, but the version number at the title screen should say 1.21.4). It's a significant time save for full game runs, so if you want to get into running the game with either Lilac or Carol and that update isn't available on Wii U, I'd reccommend PC.
Also, I believe the timer is very slightly faster on Wii U, counting roughly an extra second every 5 minutes or so of game time.
PC is the best version purely for the ability to swap between patch versions, because the Wii U version isn't ideal for anyone other than Milla because it's running on the previous patch version because lol GalaxyTrail releasing patches in anything resembling a timely fucking fashion, so it's missing a useful speedtrick for Lilac/Carol, but the latest patch version is horribly broken for Milla, so being able to choose the version for your character is a huge advantage.
Not many people run the PS4 version because it came long after the PC release. It's actually a fine patch to run on, but you can't use the trainer to practice some bits of levels conveniently.
I have a lot of free time. Lol Although I'm struggling with a clip in Thermal Base (first clip with the moving barrels).
